As I strayed into carlow one days last july,
I was making me way from the town of athy
My head it was weary,my pockets were light,
All I had was a shilling for lodging that night,
I remember a time when three pence was all right,
But now they are charging a shilling a night,
With bugs and highlander read bite after bite
Its an awful lie down for a shilling a night.
I got up in the morning I’d thought I’d go wild
The fire it was out ,and no kettle boiled,
Put her name in the paper and make her do right,
And give better fair play for a shilling a night.
Morning Christy! Where did that week go!? Noticeably brighter mornings and “a grand stretch” starting to appear in d’evenings..”Sun shine in”. A grand line up on The LLS tonight..thanks to Hilary Scanlan for the heads up..she don’t miss a beat..Enjoy the weekend whatever it may bring..

Fair play to you Kev
Hello Christy,
A new album arrived yesterday, well new from 1976. It plays like new. It’s got Dalesman’s Litany on it and Wave up to the shore, that you chose on an interview recently. It’s a gorgeous song. Kind of a pensive version of Lightening Bird Wind River Man.

My brother ( Barry Moore aka Luka Bloom) wrote that song when he was 16……50 years on he is about to release an album of instrumentals…..
Hello Christy,
I was hoping you might get chance to give feedback on the song I wrote with Dave. I know how you must be so busy. Your thoughts are valuable.
There’s been lovely feedback from Pam and Rory. And, Pat emailed us to ask if a recording could be included in the video he’s making. The song won’t be ready for this but, as soon as I’ve finished wrestling with chords etc… I’ll be having a go at recording it.
This is the first song I’ve written and it’s been great to collaborate with Dave. Thanks for the suggestion and I hope we will keep at it. The creativity practically bubbled over.
I hope you and everyone here is keeping well. My Mum and Dad have got appointments for their vaccinations. Saturday teatime.

When I set up this platform I had no idea where it might lead….years later songs appear , collaborations between songsters who met here, news from far flung corners, feedback on old recordings, pointers to gems previously unknown and unheard,
Sometimes its difficult to keep up with it all
Alologies Christy, a 3rd post in quick succession.
As previously mentioned i regularly turn to Traveller in the early morning dark.
Your own song Siren’s Voice pierced the dark so i listened to it properly today.
Can i ask, what was the story behind writing it? I can guess but might be wrong. It is very very powerful.
Stay safe

I’m wrestling here with a new batch..cant find my way back ther at the moment..but Thanks,as always, for your listening and ongoing support
Hi Christy,
When time allows, given that we are getting rid of another idiot Republican party president, it is worth checking out youtube for a song called Oval Room, by the marvellously maverick Blaze Foley ( live solo version best) .
Cheers
Rory
That one written about your old sparring partner Ronnie Reagan

Mother Redcaps, just 3 of the venues where we’d play , where we’d listen to Red Peters, The Red Necked Cowboys, The Floating Dublin Blues Band,

song of the day here, Christy

Hi Christy
A fun 24 hours – nice work,Rebecca and I’ve been called a lot worse!
Have a good day
Dave
Hello Christy,
Here is the song.
The Night and the Day
Words by Rebecca Holton and David Burrows (are you happy with that version of your name, Dave?)
The tune is
Only our Rivers run Free
By Michael McConnell
Rebecca
The strings were alive with long waiting
Of songs calling out to be played
As with purpose he faced out the music
And sang of the night and the day
She listened and heard the words calling
He hummed in her heart as he played
Every note was a joining and falling
In the song of the night and the day
The shadows were light in the morning
The sun warmed their walls as it played
The empty streets sang a bright dawning
When they sang of the night and the day
And the rivers and valleys were silent
Like children kneeling to pray
But the wind whistled dark with its yawning
For she sang of the night and the day
An abyss of black lay around them
With times gone by begging to pay
And they clung to the dream of light calling
With no song of the night and the day
And the greenness it was all around them
Warm sunlight was guiding the way
So they lay by the hearth of hearts falling
Singing songs of the night and the day
Your lines glide perfectly with the melody
