Hi Christy and all, following up Dave’s excellent idea of how we became fans, tried to make my journey concise, but it sounds really rambling and unremarkable, so thought I’d step back and read other contributors, will just add I can nearly match Dave’s 50years.
Rebecca, would love Brenda’s number, see if she fancies a weekend break after lockdown! Pam
Spot on with the recall – Messrs Harris and Appleton i/c Golden Lion Folk Club.If the pub was still standing,I’d be leading the campaign for a ‘blue plaque’ marking the venue…
Last year, we riffed on/enjoyed online festivals via http://www.folkonfoot.com There’s website news about the next one – Sunday, 14th Feb, with loads of contributors inc names familiar here eg Peggy Seeger, Martin Simpson,Chris Wood, Kris Drever, Karine Polwart -and more rare – Lisa Knapp/Gerry Diver…full details online… sounds like an ace afternoon/evening. Lots of other great features on the website as well.
Well what a task, a guity pleasure Christy et al,
Brenda’s voyage sounds like a weekend in Amsterdam and a Kangaroo Shop is probably bone china assortments staffed by a team of Bulls, seriously Rebecca i am the world’s worst at punching the wrong key too.
Lisdoonvarna is a smiling pleasure but maybe the guilty ones are songs like God Save the Queen (rotten version) and If it wisnae fur yer wellies (the big yin) with Orange Juice and the Codliver Oil (with Hamish Imlach in the live youtube video, having a ball just like his audience),
cheers

it could happen to a Bishop Rory….tis so easy to press the wrong button….my best one was Convoction Hall, Toronto…. “This evening Kirsty Muir will sing a selection of her Irish Folk Songs” I still have the cutting somewhere…..
Johnny was more crack when he was Rotten…..the butter ad melted me
Great news that your work room is a hive of activity – fruits to be shared far and wide, whenever possible.
This year is 50 years since I first discovered your music. Via your ‘floor spot’ at the Golden Lion Folk Club, Withington, South Manchester. My local folk club, where I was knocked sideways by your singing/playing- and here we are, still on the journeys…I’ve pondered this idea for awhile, but didn’t want to hijack the guestbook with it, but as you’re focusing on song and dipping in and out here, now seems to be a good time…
I’ve said about my intro to your playing and am curious (as I’m sure you are) about other fans’ back stories related to finding your music. So,if any fellow listeners fancy sharing a tale or two, let’s post them here. There’ll be great reading for many, shared experiences and (as in THE video) confirmation that your timeless music spreads far and wide…
Have a fine day in the work room, Christy – keep well all
Dave

run by Harris & Appleton if I rem correctly….an unlikely pair of Folk Club organisers yet they managed to run a good club…..I did a floor spot there as you recall..that led to a gig and subsequently Planxty played there in ’72….I have a vivid memory of them and the room
Dear Christy and fellow guestbookers, i have just listened to the 2 cd’s from my friend Paddy in Derry.
They were recorded at the Dic Shack, Derry, they are called Notes From Derry and Stories Of The Land.
Local artists for local charities, great selections, several well known CM songs and a good few i did not know so well like the marvellous Elizabeth O’Farrell and lovely The Roads We Walked.
Hope that anyone interested can find copies ,for charity coffers, but if not and if i take a lesson from the new Steve Lillywhite ( pat) i can try to ‘burn’ one.
Take care all
Rory
Hi all, during Christys absence just like all naughty children we will have to make our own mischief .So, whats your one Lockdown song that makes you smile when you need a bit of a lift, mine is Delaneys Donkey by Val Doonican. You never know if we get enougth suggestions it might even lead to another ‘Rory & Pat’ production. Stay safe and sain

I was there the day she won the half mile race…I had a half dollar each way on her and she cantered home by half a length..there was a steward’s enquiry , then we heard the magic words”winner all right”..I dont mind telling you, we made a right good night out of it…
Hi Christy, thanks to Pat for reassuring news all is well with you. You’ve spoiled us in the past by acknowledging the majority of comments, I think these days we worry all to quickly about the dreaded covid.
I don’t sleep well and have found your lockdown sessions invaluable so have never stopped watching them. Not on FB either have tried a couple of times but it keeps saying my name is invalid. Should I be worried! Pam
Hi Christy,
good to read that there’s no need to be worried. Everybody needs a brake, write a song or jump in a lake.
Thanks @Pat for letting us know (as I’m as well one of those not at facebook…).
It sounds really good to me that there are a few old and new songs in the making. Looking forward to the new album! In the meantime listening to your other albums, your lockdown sessions and the video will do a good job to turn thoughts away from the dominating topic. Glad that you like the video :-).Keep well!
Birgit
Great to see that Pat, i don’t do the dreaded fb.
Glad the video has gone down well .
This talk of the next CM album has me salivating already.
A pal in (free) Derry sent me a couple of charity CDs from local artists, so am loooking forward to listening to them soon.
Stay safe, stay well
Regards to you Christy and all other 4711ers and fans
Rory
A pleasure to be part of the video – and to be able to rabbit and rant here… keep well all – the fruits of the Atkin/workroom will keep spirits high. Most importantly, yours…
The lockdown sessions get regular watches here – and great to see the viewings tally rise on the youtube Rory/Pat epic – I might have contributed a fair % as I’m intrigued by the range of talent and bagging ideas…
Hi Christy, thanks for your post on FB. I copy it here, so all the GB folks who are not on FB can see it. Mind yourself, and thanks again for your wonderful positive feedback to The video!

Greetings all you good listeners and songsters.
Recently I received a gift of songs from a gathering of singers. The original suggestion came from Rory in the Scottish Borders.
The recordings were edited together by Pat who dwells “over the moon” in Germany.
It was precious gift which I will always cherish and came at a time when a wind of uplift was greatly appreciated.
Many different singers from around the world shared versions of songs I have been privileged to sing.
I thank you all, Pat & Rory in particular.
I will share below the link for anyone out there who may be interested in hearing the basket of songs I received. https://youtu.be/X6fBSDVBp_Y
I am deeply immersed in rehearsals and demos at the moment as I prepare to record an album.
Some fine songs have come my way this past year. Working on them has given me great purpose. I’ve also written some songs that may make the cut. Also, some traditional songs have come back up before me.
Circumstance has meant that I only play Solo here in the work room. The songs are developing very much in that format.
I’ve been absent from the Guestbook on my website for the past two weeks.
Normal service will be resumed when the muse returns.
Everybody needs a break.
For those who did not hear or may have forgotten, we have put 8 lockdown sessions up on the video section here. They can also be viewed on YouTube.
Thank you for listening, for your messages of good will, for being there…
Christy

There you go, cats not cars
Brenda’s shop sounds more like something from Coronation Street, not these days though, now the trailers make it look like Dallas.
I don’t think Brenda ever made it to Amsterdam but there was a weekend in Paris that was a bit of an eye opener.
Lots of boys here. I hope some girls start posting, I’m missing you.
I’m writing a song about cars I’ve owned
I’ll post it here when it’s done. I’m thinking of calling it Clawking it up to Nancy.
I winder if I’ve hit any wrong keyes today.
Rebecca .
Mornin’ Christy
