http://www.radio.garden features a map of the world. Green dots show radio stations. Click on a dot and away you go…I’ve heard The Stones from France, the Floyd from Cape Verde, Nick Drake from Orkney – and only just started…anyone for the last few choc ices?
Happy listening – keep well

Nice One Dave,
circa 65 years ago Myself and (the late) Meg McGowan were discovering the delights of 208…..his older brothers turned us on to the sinful sounds that were emanating from the Duchy…back then Radio Eireann transmitted”The Kennedys of Castleross”, “The Foley Family”, “Din Joe” and “Hospitals requests”
but soon as we got unsupervised access to the wireless we’d shift the dial to 208 MW and listen in awe to Luxembourg….we wondered were we comitting venial or mortal sins, those blissful Saturday nights….ears glued to the sturdy Pye as we chewed on Mackintosh’s luxurious Double Centres
Hi Christy,
Your biggest fan from Stuttgart, Bernhard, will celebrate his 70th birthday next Tuesday (2nd March). My father-in-law has been to a few gigs in Vicar street, you even called him out at one gig, and sang ‘Joxser goes to Stuttgart’ and raised the roof!. Sunday morning is his favourite time, when he puts on Christy as he has his morning ‘fruehstuck’ … the german equivalent to the full-Irish!
It would be great if you can send your best wishes (by PM) and I will post it on his personal 70th birthday web-site, where we are gathering best wishes messages from around the globe. Best Regards, Shay, Ballinteer
Good morning Christy,
As i head out for the morning rolls….ahh i am desperate for a warm roll, butter and marmalade and a big mug of black tea…i wanted to mention an album i recently came across.
EVEN IN EXILE is an album composed wholly of songs about the inspirational life of Victor Jara.
Not only does that give it a link to your music, and your fine version of the song ‘Victor Jara’, but the album is by James Dean Bradfield, he of the Manics and therefore of the ‘Arthur’s Day’ song fame !
I hope some guestbookers may enjoy it.
Regards
Rory
Keep ’em coming John….
Quality is grand , great to see these clips again.
Vaccinations started for the 85+ here yesterday….. such a great turnout and all smiling and glad to be out of the house for a little while…. a joyful day….

gotta say it Marty,,,you’s lookin good for 85 plus…whats Ger puttin in your porridge?
Good morning Christy and all,
I tried putting up a few clips from Lisdoonvarna 2010 after your query to Traudel last weekend Christy but they did not make the page, probably too many together.
I’ll try one again here, after you reminded us of Gerry Brady on the bones. Here’s Gerry with Bunoscionn outside the Royal Spa on 10th April 2010. Let me know if you saw Tom Tuohy and the Honda 50 after Traudel’s post. If not, I can put it up again. Sorry about the poor phone camera quality but the sound is good! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wW7SE5TjBLs
Is that you ringing my doorbell,
Is that you writing all the letters that I get,
Is that you reaching inside my soul,
Where love did dwell,
Is that you telling me your still free,
Is that your way of tell me your still in love with me,
Well I don’t listen to the wind,
That blew long time ago,
I just wanted you to know.
Is that my photo on your fireplace
Is that a lonely tear rolling down your face,
Tears have a way of following us ,every where we go,
I just wanted you to know
Is that your photo on my fireplace
Is that a lonely tear rolling down my face,
Tears have a way of following us every where we go.

Definitely heartening to see/ feel signs of Spring. Spot on comments about ‘ The Gardener’song and its images.
Not quite sure why I’ve never previously checked it out, but Mr Doran’s website is a fine read -well worth a wander… http://www.pauldoranmusic.com Also, apt to see your good self well represented there…
Good luck with workroom tasks – there’s great anticipation of the harvest in due course. Worth the trial and error of arrangements/rhythms etc…
Hello Christy,
It’s a beautiful day here today. I’m watch daffodils in the sun and wind.
Yesterday I started trying to put the few words I wrote about spring to a tune. I’ve no idea if it will work but it’s exciting. Today I’m searching for music manuscript paper and pencils. It’s been nearly 30 years and I’m doing it for the joy of it.
Just want to say thankyou for suggesting I start writing.
Hi Christy,
The lockdown videos were aptly named, I’ve been watching constantly through lockdown, watched 1-3 last night.
Each time of hearing love The Gardener more and more, right time of year to listen to it.

Hey Pam, what a beautiful song, written by Paul Doran I feel priviledged every time I sing it.We have one pariicular Robin in the Garden who surely must have heard it. It surely is a friend of mine.
Recorded in 2016 The Gardener has been gaining plaudits of late.I love to hear it mentioned for I believe it to be a beautiful song.
This past year I’ve been constantly nurturing another Paul Doran song. Much as I love singing it I’m finding it difficult to arrange a setting. Only yesterday I began to consider singing it accapella….time will tell
Thank You
Great listening back to the lockdown videos this past couple of days.. I had them playing away in the background while getting a new house ready to move into.. Haven’t got round to doors, frames or skirting boards yet.. “6 coats and 3 coats more”…
Good evening Christy,
I took a fancy to dip back into the pages of ‘While Justice Slept’ recently, it is almost incredible, how issues of liberty and justice ‘gang aft aglay’ as Burns wrote.
I return to the ‘Wicklow Boy’ many a time, it is a fine song, a proud song, a desperate song, a tearful song and a stirring song.
Of course i never have met Nicky Kelly but he seems to have been some man, a politician too despite all that justice and politics did not help him.
I was struck to read in the box set Lilac sleeve note book , that you and the great Donal Lunny sang your song at the gates of Portlaoise prison as he lay on hunger strike.
Some song, some lifestory, some man.
Regards
Rory

Morra Rory,
when Nicky was released he came to a gig in The Wexford Inn….the room was thronged with supporters of the “Free Nicky Kelly” campaign. The atmosphere was electric. I invited him up to say a few words. He thanked the audience for all their support, thanked me for the song and drew my attention to the fact that was from Kilkenny. I tried singing
“give the Kilkenny Boy his freedom”
but it did’nt sound right…..in song he will always be “The Wicklow Boy”
I wanted to drop you a line to say thanks – I’ve been working from home now for almost a year and listen to your music on most days. It’s a treat to listen to your lockdown sessions on a Friday evening when my wife is on a zoom call with her friends – some evenings I can get lost in your music, ideal for this time we are living in.
I’ve seen you live in Glasgow (my hometown) on many occasions now – I’ll never forget that first gig that I attended at the Barras some 16 years ago! It’s become a bit of a tradition to attend your gigs with my Dad (Jim) and my uncles (Tom and John). My sister (Jo) and other members of my family often come along too – it’s always a great evening, washed down with a fair helping of Guinness afterwards.
Anyway, thanks again – in this time, where we are separately from loved ones, listening to you has helped me feel closer to my family. I long for the day we’ll all be back together enjoying you live in the Barras!
Cheers, Christy and take care!
Kev

Since my first gig in Scotland in 1968 I’ve been a regular visitor..Back then I’d spend a few weeks knocking about Folk Clubs..met a lot of singers in my time there and made many good friends…
in recent times my visits have been confined to Glasgow and Edinburgh…..Barrowland is very high on my list of favourite venues..hope we can all be together again in Gallowgate before too long

Hello Christy,
I’m listening to a lot of Liam O’Flynn.
There’s an album from 1988 called Liam O’Flynn. He’s playing with lots of different instrumentalists. That ones on the turntable a lot the last few days.
Here’s a link which I hope works ok https://youtu.be/V90EIR3T6Uc
Limerick’s lamentation is a slow air with low whistle. We all need some soul soothing sometimes.
and Mary – thanks for the Liam Weldon references… Wow! Ashamed to say, that I didn’t know of his singing until 5 minutes ago…but, many thanks for changing that…and I’ll be keeping youtube busy for awhile now…
The wind is scraming, the pink sky fading, kettle boiling and the ‘blue tar road’ awaits now…
I thought for a second Marty was having puddin’ in the porridge..! I’ll take Hilary’s .. ní maith leis é..😁

Hello Christy,
I’m working hard on words and tunes. Concentrating on Limerick’s Lament. This is a beautiful tune, I think.
I’m thinking about how tunes and words interact and how they can change character when they get together. Almost like people.
Do you sometimes hear tunes when you write words. I guess it’s different with each song?
