it went off very well..The Park is a grand Hotel for a gig,the audience were superb, nice hotel, lovely staff….everything was perfect except for the porridge, cold and lumpy….is Babs still running around in his stockin feet ?
Had a dream last night you were here in the living room singing Continental Ceili for us. Then again, that’s what the gigs in the Royal Spa felt like. Feel so privileged to have shared such an intimate and rarified vibe with you and the lads on both nights. And I was blown away by the version of Butterfly on the first night (sorry if my ‘backing’ singing got OTT, morto). We met a young woman in Doolin on the Saturday and upon hearing you were playing, she made the trek to Lisdoon. It was sold out by then, but the fantastic crew at the hotel sorted her out.
It was marvellous taking in the classic Lisdoon posters in the hotel, it was like the lyrics to your song, though I kept wondering who the hell is Doctor Bill?
Loved the latest chat too…it was like being there all over again. Great that such gems are being shared and not wasted on some oul high stool somewhere. Reminds me of Kinky Friedman’s lines:

Dr.Bill Loughnane was a legendery GP in West Clare. He was a great character, larger then life, whom I met on a number of occasions in the late 60s early 70s. He was also an accomplished Fiddle player and joined Planxty on stage on a number of accasions in The Merriman Tavern in Scariff, Co.Clare. This venue, which was run by Aiden and Síle O’Beirne, hosted all the top bands and acts of the day. It was Planxty’s favourite spot for many years. Summertime gigs in The Merriman were the stuff of legend. One August Saturday in 1972 a huge crowd turned up and the venue was jammed an hour before showtime.Aiden put speakers up out in the yard and out on the street and it turned into a mini Fleadh Ceol. We all used to stay in a small bedroom upstairs. I finally got to bed on Monday morning after a Saturday night gig. Anther night there was a game of handball in the Handball Alley in Ogonolloe at 4 am in the morning. We parked the van with the headlights shining into the alley and played a lively scór. Yes Ger, Lisdoon was classic for us too….a truly memorable few days…as memorable as Scariif 40 years ago but, apart from the music, not nearly as wild !!
Well Christy where to start regarding Joris Bonson’s glory moment. It was heartening to see the union of a ginger Scotsman, a Somali refugee and a mixed race woman. (what a child that would produce!) We delivered the good will and the jingo by the bucket load. The natives complained about the tourists and the tourists complained about the price. I complained about the heat and the dust. But I managed to get to work on time every day avoiding the speed cameras, bus lane cameras, armed Apache helicopters above me and the shooting of the pigeons in Woolwich. Sweet Thames flowing all the while. Cannot flippin wait for the smell of the greasepaint and the body check at the doors of the Barras. From what I hear you and the Doctor are in fabulous form and so the heck am I. xx

you paint a colourful picture of d’Olympics…as a younger person I was always very interested in The Games…these days less so…. was I the only one who felt the opening ceremony was off putting? I have no doubt but that great strides have been made in developing all aspects of these great games. I think I preferred the world in black and white.Such brouhaha accompanies all great sporting events now that their very greatness has been compromised…the coverage is just wall to wall bompast…this is beginning to sound like my audition for a spot on “Grumpy Old men” so I’ll shut up about Lord Ovett’s Frolics……..The Doctor and I seem to be hitting a few sweet notes of late… with us both being involved in alternative projects at the moment it is possible that we are bringing some new flavours to the table ….I must check that the body checks are in place in Glasgow….it would be such a big disappointment if one did not get a “right good frisk” on the way in.
I hear your rustic tones float through my poisoned mind,
Then it climbs the steaming pudding hills above so fine,
I see your smiling face and those hands that touched mine,
We are stripped bare and wasting, just to save the blind,
And you and I who share silent screams that do bind,
No lovers healing kiss, my fond heart froze by time,
Do they know who has really sinned?
Who cares anymore?Our Christy Moore
Hope you are in good health and thanks for giving me, through your music, the courage simply to live. Changes in the Box Set sends me to a distant place- far from my mind.

listening to music is indeed a great accompaniment to daily life…the only downside being the increasing use of background muzak every time one steps out the door…I still get stopped in my tracks and surpised …..very late lat night I was drifting off to BBC Radio 4 Extra…an old Desert Island Discs Programme with Ewan McGregor talking with Sue Lawley…out of the blue came Jimmy O’Brien-Moran playing a slow air on the Uileann Pipes…it changed the course of my slumber….8 hours later it still reverberates around my head
Christy,
I’m thinking its only 2 more weeks until you play Stirling for what i assume is your first time to the City? Is it? Have you ever been here before? Myself, my wife Yvonne and the neighbours really hope its a special night for everyone in attendance and if you want any advice make sure to play Ride On (Ha you would know that anyway, your an old hat at this). I take it you wouldn’t be taking a medieval take on your concert due to the history of the city and the surroundings? Your cover of America, i Love you was well delivered by the author when he was last playing the same venue a number of years back. Thank you for the Autumn chat ….and the Lisdoonvarna gigs … Just a week ago….400 kilometres to get to Nantes, in driving rain…. Shannon airport in dazzling sun …. Met Seamie as he was walking down the street in Lisdoon ….Chatted a few minutes, as he was Daniel’s “teacher” in Tocane-St-Apre, France, last July…. The rented house overlooking the Aran isles… the walk on the Cliffs of Doolin ( as beautiful as those of Dooneen ? ), a place that only an Irish native can know, … the session at the pub, with Lar, Noel, Gerry, Kieran, Hilary, to name but a few, people singing in turn… I even sang a song in French! And the gigs, the enchanting gigs ! We too are still mesmerized by those two nights of sharing. Yes, many have travelled a long way… and that was worth it ….As always … We’ll do it again, even if I have to swim from Roscoff to Cork. Music does keep our spirits high. Thanks again. Ah that Decky H, he knows how to say it. Who can’t remember the day they met or were acknowledged by their hero. The chat reminded me of gratitude, without which there would be none of this. The chat reminded me not to take things for granted. xx
Hi Christy, hope this message finds you in good tune. Compelled to say that I can clearly remember spending many hours years ago wondering what it would be like to meet you, shake your hand and maybe even get the chance to talk to you, as, I’m sure, did many other people. This guestbook, and especially your contribution to it, would have been unimaginable twenty years ago. I recall taking the day off work to stand outside Newry sports centre in the hope of getting to meet my idol. Me, a grown man, standing like an eejit for hours with people passing who knew me, acknowledging and confirming that I really was a buck eejit !!! The point is Christy, I really hope you get just what this guestbook, and your chats mean to people. The time you take to talk, answer questions, share the banter, feelings, vibes, it’s such a part of all our lives now, and again, totally unimaginable years ago. Thanks, a million times over Christy, for taking the time. The chats are like Christmas morning. Don’t get to so many gigs these days, but you’re still a big part of my life. Continued good health to do what you do.
Decky.

greetings to Decky and Tina and all the wains in the land of McCreesh. always good to hear from you. hope we see you before too long
Just back home from a fantastic concert in Berlin – Martin Hayes + Dennis Cahill, Mairtin O’Connor, Cathal Hayden + Seamie O’Dowd and Iarla O’Lionaird. Last night made up a bit for not being in Lisdoon last weekend – we heard on the 4711ers hotline that it was unique … In your autumn chat you mention the upcoming Berlin gig – looks like the circle is complete now … What an amazing bunch of great musicians it was – each one is an outstanding soloist, but all of them together are a sensation – they are playing as if they have been a one-piece band forever. The concert took place in a beautiful church – simply perfect, except for the fact that we missed you, Christy … So we will have to come back to Ireland to catch one of your gigs – hopefully soon.

Christy,
Another beautiful CHAT, shaped and penned like the true artist of words which you are,
What a privilege it is for us to travel along this Musical journey of stories, images, and history, past and present. It keeps the spirits high and is the perfect antidote to some of the spoof we have to listen on a daily basis from our so called Leaders.
Ride on, Christy and keep her lit !!!!.
Beat Regards.

shaping the chat and sharing the story helps my focus when I’m on the road…that a few of you listeners take the trouble to respond is a bonus….certainly its a lot more beneficial to my well being then the antics practiced in the first half of this journey (1966 -1989). Back then all the chats were on high stools and very often to ones self….I still talk to myself betimes but these days its lyrics and tunes I’m sounding

Has the lake frozen over yet?…love to all the ducks, swans and GERMAN listeners….
Christy,
Another beautiful CHAT, shaped and penned like the true artist of words which you are,
What a privilege it is for us to travel along this Musical journey of stories, images, and history, past and present.
