Hi Christy,
Jody Cahill is back from the States. Had a mighty time over there – his band “The Crooked Jacks” went down well! See from your newsletter that you have new songs in the pipeline – if I put 2 and 2 together and got 4 – would Jody be in luck – or should I be getting 6?????
As Donal Lunney said in June 1984 “The singing of such songs is a reassurance, and affirmation that others are aware of and wish to change what is going on in the world around them.”
Christy's reply
away on the road just now Bunker…glad it went well in the States for The Crooked Jacks…..with regard to compatability, songs are just as sensitive as people….there is simply no way of knowing who is gonna love who
Looks like here is the place for requests… Christy, I would be forever grateful to you if you could wish my husband Chris a happy birthday on Friday at the Barras – sadly I can’t make the concert this time round, as I’ll be at home looking after our daughter, who’s 1st birthday is on Thursday – she made her entrance into into the world a year ago with you singing Weila Waile on the ipod in the background – Chris would love it if you sang this song for him, failing that, Beeswing! Go raibh maith agat Christy! Am sure I’ll be missing a great night!
Christy's reply
That recordinng of Weela Waile is like many on the Box Set…songs only performed once and never in public…it is an interesting song that has always tickled my fancy, it is a unique version….I have had over 100 requests for call outs in Barrowland…Im going to pick a few out of the hat before the gig
I’m bringing a wonderful woman from Chillan in Chile tomorrow night. She used to have men at command during the war against Pinochet. A true rebel no less. Her name is Sol and I’m sure you’ll sing a song for her.
Christy, I have heard you do the odd request at your concerts – maybe you could sing ‘So Do I’ at your Manchester concert tomorrow for my lovely wife.
Christy's reply
Jasus `Frank would you not include the woman’s name…”Frank’s lovely wife” probably does not express how you feel. I would be cautioned by the PC brigade..They may even hiss “Judas” at me….!
claymores bar in stirling.why dont you and declan come up and visit wee declan and big declan . great bar for the irish craic
Christy's reply
more of a crack man myself Tugs 59. always a bit dubious about craic…these days it takes Declan and I all day to do our gig so we’wont be able to take up your kind invite……. “O The Crack was 90 in the Isle of Man”
Hi Christy. When I was talking about the Jim Larkin song, I was thinking of the Pete St. John version. In 1913 – dreadful living conditions caused by greedy landlords, tenements literally falling down and a government whose only interest was to protect the wealthy, nothing for the poor.
In 2012 – innocent people driven from their unsafe homes, Priory Hall, and a government who only care about bondholders, and banks, making the poor pay for the greed of the wealthy yet again.
Think we could do with another Jim Larkin, somebody to stand up for us (can’t rely on Labour anymore.)
Mike
Christy's reply
Mike , agree with most of what you say….Priory Hall is a disgrace…McFeeley a shameless, heartless exploiter… whatever about “another Jem Larkin to stand up for us” what we really need is to start standing up for ourselves…..it says a lot that we have mass protests in support of The Quinn Dynasty and none for the residents of Priory Hall….as Jinx Lennon sings..”You gotta stand up for your Hospitals” Government will care for the Banks and Bondholders as long as they get away with it…. they are getting away with it….different jerseys same team
Christy, only a week till you’re at the Glasgow Concert Hall. I see that you sang Butterfly a couple of weeks ago. I know I’ve pestered you about this for more than a year now, and i won’t mention it again, but I hope you can sing it at the Concert Hall. I’ve never heard you sing it live, and it often moves me to tears when I hear it.
I’ll be the bald guy, 4th row from the front, right in the middle, with the ever-softening eyes.
And there’s still a Muirhouse mug of tea and a treacle scone if you fancy it!
Well Christy, 5 nights to the Barras, I’ve been counting down the weeks to this gig since the day it was announced, it feels like a cup final…seeing you and Declan at your best in one of your favourite venues will be a gig to remember. I know you get a million requests and you’ve been good enough to meet us and sign my canvas, singing a pair of brown eyes for Catherine, even a shout at at the gig would be amazing, she would love it. Have a good week, see you Friday 🙂
Ride on…..
Christy's reply
its all go here at the coal face…on the road again…great listeners.. beautiful venues…travel safe

I need a bit of cheering up. I was made redundant a couple of days ago completely out of the blue. A five minute chat with my boss and an email notice and life changed. Lovely performance by Lucka on the Late Late last night. Great to see him getting the exposure he richly deserves.

Thanks for the encouraging reply – 2013 wouldn’t be the same without ‘Nancy Spain’ by the waters’ edge. See you there….
