Well Christy
Hope your keeping well and the tours going great. Counting down the hours to the gig tonight. No doubt it’s going to be a night to remember. If you could play the contender it would top the whole night off, it’s been playing on repeat in the house over the past week and to hear it live would be unbelievable. Best of luck with the gig,
Derek

there,in the mirror on the wall,, I see the dream is fading.
From The Contender to the brawl,. The ring, the rose, the Matador is fading.
Looking forward to your Edinburgh gig tonight! Could you please give a shout out to my Dad Jimmy Louth, who’ll also be at the festival theatre tonight. He’s originally from Cobh, co. Cork and has been one of your biggest fans from the beginning.
Chrsty,
As I was leaving the Bridgewater Hall last night, it occurred to me that I hadn’t felt that good since I was leaving the Etihad Stadium at the end of last season after watching City win the league (and knowing Manchester as you do, you will know what that means to a City fan)
Never underestimate what you do and please keep coming back and doing it in Manchester. And Christ, yer man Declan just keeps getting better – he makes it look as easy as breathing. Your encore – especially ‘Bright Blue Rose’ was just about perfect – whatever it means, it sounds great. I get the feeling that Jimmy McCarthy gives the lie to the belief that the Devil has all the best tunes!
Good luck at the Barras, I saw the place a few weeks ago for the first time since 1967 and realised that I had never seen it before in daylight – or sober!
Christy's reply
thanks Frank….playing in Manchester always evokes so many memories…. as the gig rolled out the other night so many faces flashed across my screen…Eamon Clinch, recently departed, and that wonderful band he fronted with Gerry Brady, Jenks at The MSG with Drony and Jack Taylor,Mike and Patricia Harding, Derek McEwen, Harry Bradshaw, Mary Asquith, Marie Little, Tom and Smiley, Tony and Arthur, Rosie Hardman, The Pennine Folk, The Valley Folk, Pete Ryder and a myriad of others…so many Folk Clubs scattered around the Greater Manchester area, from Rochdale to Congleton every town and village had its own gathering…..Frank Duffy had a club, Jack and Mavis, Rai Birnes,Des English, The Oldham Tinkers, The Taverners, Fr Fritz in St Clares, Phil McCabe in Hopwood,…..true what you say too about the gift of sobriety, back then I viewed sobriety with disdain..,these days I give thanks for its very gift
What about that tonight the mighty barca put to the sword, please play bright blue rose on Friday at the barras for my Sarah , happy 30th my love. Ps we beat barca !!!!!!!!!!
Christy's reply

Hi Christy, Great Concert in Manchester last night, you and Declan were on mighty form, thanks a million for telling everyone present I was 50th (Just)!! Sandra was really chuffed that you read out her request. We are not only from Manchester, but Crumpsall to boot, I went to the same school as your buddy Mike Harding (St Annes) and recall him putting on folk nights in the Parish Hall, we have also downed a pint or 2 in the Old House at Home. You have added great quality to our family life (our 2 girls Kate and Orla love your music) and for that I will always be in your debt. Thanks again Liam

Best to you and your family….got my first paid Folk Club gig in Old House at Home at back of icky works in 1966/7 time…it was a Sunday night gig and I woke up next morning in Hardings House where Mike and Pat put up with me for about 5 weeks until I got myself a room in Cheetam Hill…
Brilliant show last night in Manchester Christy and a lovely modern venue for you to be your usual brilliant self. Don’t forget . . . Halifax would be an amazing place for you to return . . . someday! Best of luck for the rest of your tour and a nod to Declan for some excellent support and a lovely solo song too. Kind regards
Christy's reply
a return to Halifax would be fine…had a couple of good hears there over 40 years ago..used to rest up there between gigs…Mixenden first and the Causeway Foot….The Upper George holds many tales, still in touch with Richard Collins who ran volk glub, also Dennis Sabey who had a club in the Bradshaw Tavern. Alastair Cameron was a resident there and Roger Sutcliffe a regular guest

Thanks Christy. I’ll be up the front in me Kildare jersey. I’m not sure the Coill Dubh colours are safe anywhere other than Coill Dubh (well, maybe in Conleths Park on County Hurling Final Day but that’s another matter).
Go Raibh Maith agat Christy and Declan. Last nights gig at The Bridgewater Hall was just pure class……..heartfelt, nostaligic and an amazing selection of ballads ………thanks so much Christy …I was prayin for ‘Joxer’ and ya did us proud!
God Bless ya Christy Boy!! (how’s the Tin Hut in Ahkista??)
Great show in Manchester last night. True Loves Knows No Season was the highlight for me amoungst an excellent well performed set. A great hall, we had a meal in the Halle restaurant before the show and a beer in the Britons Protection across the road. Met a man called Tom McKenna from Glasgow now domiciled in Stockport, turned out that he knew an old departed uncle of mine up in Gweedore – small world. One small thing and this may be me getting older, it could have done with being a little louder – Declan’s guitar was a struggle at times and we were about 15 rows back in the stalls. Might be me. Enjoy the rest of the tour and the football tonight. I think Celtic might get a result! – Chris McGranaghan – Those Old Records
Delighted that your trip is going so well;……….Its great to read all the wonderful reviews and the joy that you are bringing to lots of Listeners.
Like others i wish i could be with all the ‘dreamers’ in Glasgow……..just have to wait and read all the reports.

Sorry about the stuff from about 3.30 to 7.30 in that Cal theme. Hven’t a clue what that’s about :/
Shano41 – If it’s theme from Cal that’s played before Christy’s gigs that you’re thinking of – here it is:

It’s a beautiful piece of music and sets the scene perfectly for the wonderful gig that alway’s follows.
