Hi Christy, Thanks for drawing my attention to The Old Man’s Song. Did a bit of “research” and found the lyrics in your book One Voice. What an intense ballad to portray the ordinary man’s life in the last century! Your repertoire holds such a treasure of songs that new discoveries are to be made again and again.
I also found the song on the green disc of Box Set recorded 45 years ago with your young voice and was wondering how it would sound nowadays.
Best wishes, Traudel
Christy's reply
when I first encountered “The Old Man’s Song” in 1968 I used to sing it every night…it fell from the repertoire about 40 years ago…I tried to sing it again today after reading your post… but it no longer flows for me…its not always possible to define what makes a song work for this singer…I really like the structure, melody and content of this song but it no longer works for me like it used to do when I was a young singer……..maybe I need “The Young Man’s Song” to get me going !
I will always throw the invite to Iceland to you Christy – I love the songs but I recently got back from Australia, and met a musician called Pete Denahy. Original is a word rarely used up here but the lad is fantastic. Well worth a listen to,
Hope all is well and are you anywhere near Cork at the Xmas as I am home for a week or 10 days
Christy's reply

Hope the run up to the festive season is going well, I thought my running for the year was done but another gig before Xmas would go down a treat, as far as I can see the vicar street gigs are sold out, tried getting 4 tickets on eBay but the usual ticket tout attitude comes to mind, double price. Hopefully get tickets and see you and declan soon again….
Ride on….

What a cracking gig that was on Friday. I have no idea what it is, but you just have some ability to deliver. Its more than a concert or a gig, its an experience. The Barras crowd are something else, it was amazing to be part of that choir. The Lonesome Boatman at the encore was like nothing I’ve ever been part of before. But there was so many highlights there that I couldn’t even begin to name them. I don’t think we were the only two men from the shortgrass there either, there was a few loud calls for Curragh of Kildare made in an inebriated Bog of Allen accent. Hard to play them all I suppose. Anyway, thanks for the gig, and keep her lit

I made good links with some of the 4711er’s and they are an outstanding bunch .
