Christy's reply
I hear from the logistics department that it will be more like Autumn before we get back to Plassey . Always like playing there. What a great facility it is. Roll on Limerick.
Hey Christy, I hope I’m not doing this to bore you. Only for fun/ cross mind fertilization.
Thanks for telling me that Donny Lunny’s Dad is from Lisnaskea. That really touched me, and made my day/life. I – of course – respect Donny as a musician – and Human / Soul as well. This Man is so generous and sweet. No?
its always a pleasure to hear a good song sung from the heart….Raglan Road was written by the poet Patrick Kavanagh from Co.Monaghan in the 1950s. He set it to an old air. Luke Kelly was the first singer to bring the song to national attention. Enjoyed your version. I’m watching your other posts with interest
Howya Christy. I just want to take this opportunity just to say “Thanks” because you and your music has been such a part of my life since the first time I saw yourself and Declan in the Oscar Theatre in Sandymount many moons ago. Watching your gig tonight brought back so many memories. As a youngfella your music also opened my eyes and really was formative. Anyway thanks Christy. Nicko.(No need for a reply)
Hi Christy,
Want to confirm with sincere thanks that u caused Xmas to arrive early this year for our young friend Conor. Will be in touch soonest.
Kind Regards
Bill
Hi All…. So much good music out there,,,,, and so so easy to find it on Youtube,,,,, here is a link to Martin Carthy singing Lord Franklin,,,, it was so great to hear him gig in a small room in Kerry last weekend,,,, and then join the session for hours afterwards,,,,, Let the music keep our spirits high for sure,,, http://youtu.be/-2fzKPy8dWo beir bua. H
Christy's reply
thanks Hilary…lovely to hear Martin Carthy “Lord Franklin again ( and the wee trawl that followed )…Micheál O Domhnaill may have heard this too. Perhaps in his teenage years long before he recorded his version which remains my favourite cover of this great old song.
I suspected that might be the case, Christy, totally understand, I’m only grateful you chose to include it in the Box Set. Thanks for the reply. The version of No Time For Love on the same album is soaringly stunning; I’ve seen you do it live several times, and love it when Declan gets into it.
Christy, just been listening again to the Lilac album from your Box Set 1964-2004. Very moving, especially On the Blanket, which is stirring and evocative. Is this a song you ever sing these days, even in private? Any chance you could do it one more time, and post it in the Gallery?
Christy's reply
that particular song was recorded on the night that Martin Hurson died on Hunger Strike. It was performed and written with Mick Hanly during the short period when we were both in Moving Hearts. I feel that the song is very much time and circumstance specific. I have never considered performing it since. I agree wit what you say about it.
The gallery widget shows a picture of the setlist book with some very interesting song lyrics – Jedward, Zig and Zag….! I’m fascinated – they definitely didn’t feature during your stay over here this time round, will have to be listening out for them though!
Christy's reply
Last year there was a rumour that Bertie Ahern, our disgraced Prime Minister, might enter the Presidential campaign…those verses were performed during that brief time scale, before he shuffled off to share his Economic Strategies with emerging nations ( God love them)
Thanks for sharing your experience, thoughts and reflections with us. I seldom get to hear these songs except when I sing them live. Hearing Easter Snow in that context changed the pictures for me. Its never too early to reflect on this aspect of Christmas.See you along the street.
Last year in Mullingar you sang Two Island Swans in memory of my sister Pauline who died on December 3rd and so could not come to the concert. I am delighted that myself and the brother in law (Stuart) will be back in Mullingar next March to hear you sing and play! I might be bold and ask for a song again but will leave that to nearer the time. Hope life is treating you well. Madeleine
Christy's reply
There is much to do between now and then…having a good night here..as always, preparing as best we can for what lies ahead…Mullingar is always a good night…the room lends itself to our shenanigans
Check this song out Christy. It’s right up your alley. Funny song about going to the big and the MiWadi Orange!! http://youtu.be/jYkGcJjaatc
Christy's reply
I have been up many alleys in my time gallabu, sul de cacs too, your post led me on to a few Big Tom interviews..it was interesting to ear him talk about going to Nashville by bus, boat and train…see you in The Sound of Music Glenamaddy…where all roads lead when the hay is saved
Hiya CM
This song grabbed me immediately the first time I heard it by a Scottish singer. Didn’t realise June Tabor recorded it as well. Always thought you should give it a listen. A true story as well… Do you know “The King Of Rome” about a racing pigeon?
Here is a link to June singing it…. It’s been on tape in the head for a while now….

have listened to this song before, a few years since..had a grand hour surfing after hearing June….hope all is well with you above sea level….that your mares are in foal and your stallions in order…its winter time here…frosty mornings, lots of rain…weather for broth and porridge
I’m 16, and my parents have been to see you a few times in concert but for some reason never told me, so amazingly, i had no idea who you were until a few months ago! I heard ” hiroshima nagasaki russian roulette” on the radio (my first time to hear your music), and since then i have been listening to you non stop!
Im hoping to be able to go to your gig in Galway on the 2nd of January, fingers crossed!
Thank you for writing such inspirational music!
Seán.
Christy's reply
Seán…your parents cant be telling you everything ! see you in Salthill
Hi Christy, was at both your recent Barrowland and Stirling gigs, two completely different shows but both equally outstanding. A heartfelt thank you to both yourself and Declan and hope to see you both again soon.
Ride on.
Christy's reply
very different rooms..we enjoyed the contrast..thanks for feedback
I had mentioned on this forum some years ago about the possibility of you doing a song in support of Palestine. At that time you had said you had thought about it. Given current events I hope you are thinking about this again.
I am an American married to an American lady of Egyptian descent. I have been a fan or yours for some 20 years and my wife is a new fan very fond of your music. We are wanting to get out to Ireland to see you soon. I lived over there for years, just could never make it work.
Keep up the great music and I hope you and everyone else is keeping the suffering of the Palestinians in mind. Thanks!
Christy's reply
thinking about it may worthwhile if it leads to a positive action
How are ye Christy? I was watching a few videos on youtube earlier and it came into my head that some day you should write an autobiography.. I’d say you’d write a very interesting book!! 🙂
Looking forward to seeing yourself and Declan in Vicar Street in a few weeks.. I’m hoping to catch either you or Declan (or both) somewhere around the place for a picture! 😉
Hello Christy how are things,Enjoyed the rugby today a good performance by Ireland and we played a lot better despite the score,it’s time to listen to the January man and butterfly, bright blue rosé to settle me after the games.
Christy's reply
Im stiff and sore this morning…those Argentinians are hardy bucks but we put it up to them yesterday…cant believe how quickly your squad have lost their shape…I suspect ye will be toned up for the 6 nations….there is a short Welsh tour in the offing next Spring…keep an eye out
CM(67)Tiny is on the black book for digging in the lettuce and being nice to magpies.
Mom tried to put him into a box he went insane and flipped his legs and put his claw into her hand and he keeps looking in the window on us .RS says he wants his claw back. Its in a box on the shelf.
Hes a huge cat so his name is tiny.He looks like this . http://www.flickriver.com/photos/hellie55/3293091382/
I got a hex bug instead that wont dig in the lettuce and will drive the magpies away.
Which sounds better? I heard a lad sing fat old pigeon , but you sang fine old pigeon in flickering light .Why do they dance to a reel in the flickering light and not a jig or Mazurka or a hornpipe or a double jig or a slide or a polka or a march or a shindig or a waltz or a goat hop?
Christy's reply
there dont be no lettuce left to dig in here..we do dig into it when its fresh and crispy…thats a horrid fierce lookin tiger there…ye wont be troubled by mice with that mogg around the place….dont mention magpies..they are the bane of my life…I have a catapult, pellet gun, shotgun, armalite, but they look upon me with disdain as they hop and swoop and suck the wee small birds eggs dry…the daddy long legs has always favoured the reel but refuses downright to discuss the reason why…but then again, with all them legs going in different directions at the same time, maybe he dont know himself
Sad to relate, given the chat about the Old Man’s Song on here this last few days, but it’s reported by Mike Harding, on his Facebook page, that Ian Campbell passed away this morning.

A bit early for Christmas . . . http://howardstevenson.org/2012/11/17/i-stepped-over-a-body-tonight/ – I hope the tunes add something (and thanks for the Castlebar gigs in recent years – have enjoyed them all!)
