Take it easy Christy…. no choice really…. hope your symptoms won’t be too bad.
Think it’s gonna get anyone that it missed on the first few laps this time.
Nice , long spring and summer of gigs ahead.
Sorry to hear the COVID got you Christy. It’s running rampant at the minute.Wishing you a speedy recovery,,,,, enjoy these fine days in the back garden.
Best regards
Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery, dear Christy!
I trust you got at least 3 vaccine shots, so the virus won’t have no chance to do any harm. Uwe and I tested positive in February and we felt pretty awful for a week but it was not worse than the average flu. It looks like we must learn to accept Covid-19 as an annoying part of our life, it probably won’t disappear.
Take it easy and get spoiled for a couple of days, then you will be „right as rain“ again – fingers crossed!
Hello Christy,
I’m so very sorry to hear you’re not well. I’m sure you’re getting all the good care possible and I hope you are soon feeling better.
I recorded this song for you as soon as I read the news on your front page. https://youtu.be/v23HF50_IM0
Get well soon!

Hi C..I am so sorry to hear a out the C19, after all this time….there will be other gigs..the important thing is to take care..take time…wishing you a full and speedey recovery…beir bua agus beannacht.. H

Thanks H….doing the suggested things….regret the upheaval caused to those who, like ourselves, were looking forward to INEC…seems to be rampant now but, thankfully, a milder version than that which has wreaked such horror and havoc around the world….I sang “Barr na Sráide” here this morning..was about all I could manage but we gotta try and keep the vocal and guitar chords reverberating
Dave, ref’ earlier post concerning Jack Doyle and The Contender, have you ever heard Paul McGraths version ( https://youtu.be/v3Rg6F9bzhY ).I’m not one for footballers autobiographys but McGraths is well worth a read if you get the chance,he’s very open about his battles with depression & alcoholism. Makes his version even more poignant, definatly got a ‘there for the grace of god’ feel about it .
I recall Bill Meek presenting it. Always listened to at 7pm, Monday evenings, late 70s, Radio Eireann, as it was then.

For many years “The Long Note” was a highlight of our weekly routine… never missed it in its early years…Tony McMahon played a huge part in the revival…more so then I appreciated at the time…later on he created some fine television programmes too….his travels around Brittany with Barney McKenna spring to mind…thanks again for posting
“Tuning the Radio with Peter Brown.”
Look it up on the RTE website. Find the podcasts, look for the 27 March programme. Something of interest in it for you.

Thanks Ed….really enjoyed that programme……I recommend it to anyone interested in the raw bar….Tommy Potts always gets me,nothing compares….
Hello Christy,
Oh it’s great to see the message from Nadia on here. What a lovely surprise. This is such a good place to meet new friends.
Looks like we’ve been tracked down, Dave. I’ve emailed Nadia too.
I know you need no convincing about the benefits of these pages, but Nadia’s emergence is a real boost. I’d been hoping she and Kyiv companeros are ok – good to know that Cork is home from home.
I’ve emailed a ‘hello’ – I hope Nadia feels ok about posting here.
If you are still looking for me, I evacuated to Cork from Kyiv. It was nice to find out that you enjoyed video clips from our wee session in Kyiv which is no more.
If you’d like to chat, drop a line to my email nadia.dobryanska@gmail.com
Always fascinating to get your recall, Christy – that’s a sad episode about Declan’s guitars.
I’ve not yet heard Jack Doyle sing, but there might be a chance via youtube – there are at least two docs (to be watched asap!) ‘ The Gorgeous Gael’ seems like a radio programme, but there’s also a fairly recent RTE take, that seems to have re creations of scenes, intercut with interviews.I’ve only watched the start, but the views of experts are testament to Jack Doyle’s talent and ‘box office’ power.
Thanks for another fascinating diversion via these pages…
Yesterday, I spent awhile in the company of ‘This is the day’…it’s such a mellow album, with some fab musicianship as well your excellent vocals.
I returned to ‘The Contender’ a few times – really masterful writing by Jimmy Mac. He sums up the essence of Jack Doyle, to a listener not knowing much background… I’ve just read Doyle’s wikipedia entry and confirmed my worst fears of his hard times and demise.’The Contender’ is a class memorial – apt song title as well.

morra Dave..I’m enjoying a monday morning reflection upon the making of that album…I’d been off the road and laid up for 18 months…betimes I thought my gigging days were done….a chance meeting with Declan Sinnott led us to sitting down with two guitars and having a play….that led to a sequence of events…Declan was having a 50th Birthday celebration gig in The Cobblestone. He invited me to sing a few songs. Donal Lunny was in the room and he joined us. We played some songs from the “Ride On”album. We enjoyed ourselves. Later that night all Declan’s guitars were stolen from his home. I organized a “Stolen Guitars Gig” in Mother Redcap’s and the three of us played again….the mojo was slowly reviving…within a year this album was in the making, the wagon wheels began to move again..
I agree with you about this Jimmy MacCarthy song….he has created some truly classic songs and The Contender is among the best of them…
I have a memory of seeing Jack Doyle once….It was my first or second time in London way back in 1961/62….it was in Butty Sugrue’s pub in Shepherd’s Bush..It may not have happened, I may have imagined or dreamt it, or even fabricated it in a drunken stupor….it matters not…
Have you heard Jack Doyle sing ?
Evening Christy. Just a quick heads up about Mastermind on BBC2 tomorrow evening. One of the specialist subjects is the Irish involvement in the Spanish Civil War. Who knows, you might get a mention! I think I’ll answer Bob Hilliard to all the questions and hopefully get one right. Good luck.

They fought on both sides in the Spanish Civil War, John. Sounds interesting and will tune in.

I’m wondering did anyone read the song about Ukraine, and if it has a tune.
Listening to a capella songs this morning and this one almost is.
It remains, relevant, more’s the pity

Thanks for your January shows at Vicar Street. Seems a long time ago now.
Here’s a song about time. Well that’s my feeling about it
