Dear Christy and all Easter Lillies,
Tonight i read some Ethna Carbery ( i believe her works were favoured by the people’s MP) and stirred on by the events of Easter i have tried a cut and paste….so here goes…
DONAL MAC SEAGHAIN NA MALLACHT.
(Donal Mac Shan of the Curses took the garrison of Liscallaghan, October 23rd, 1641.)
I curse them awake or sleeping,
I curse them alive or dead,
And, O Christ! that my words were embers
To fall on each Saxon head.
“They have swept my land with their fury,
It is burnt where their feet have passed:
It is blighted, dishonoured, lowly
In the track of the poisonous blast.
“But Eoghan, God shield him, gathers
The tall spears of the Gael–
And Donal Mac Seaghain Na Mallacht
Goes foremost to win or fail.
There is something noble and heartfelt in her writing, like the passion you portray in your own writings like Yellow Triangle and Viva La Quinta.
Keep on keeping on Christy
Rory

Buiochas le Dia you have recovered so well. Amazing cheque presented to the Red Cross, the world is indeed watching. Well done all concerned. Beir bua agus beannacht. H

Christy so glad to hear you’re over Covid & back on the road. Have some sad news. Your old Corinithians and CJS friend benny o connor died on 25/03/2022. I’d love to organise a benefit gig for Ukraine with all entertainers who played in CJs. Literally having this idea right now as I write format for Dads months mind mass. Email if interested. Had no idea how else to contact you. Thanks for all the great memories and stories. Corinthians U16s beat Wegians in cup semifinal on 26/03 and Seniors beat Greystones 33-21; Flags at half mast. U16 final on April 22 – 2 of bennys great nephews on the team. 2nd reading at Dads funeral read by a Wegians friend – a letter from Galwegians to the Corinthians – that one on love by St. Paul – pure benny – will stop now – rambling. Love from Mam and Lorcan too.

Dear Laura…. I got word of Dear Benny’s passing from Iggy Broderick…it was very sad news…I send condolences to your Mother to You and Lorcan….so many memories flood back of the great nights in CJ’s …back in the 80’s it was one of the hottest gigs in Ireland . I loved playing that room….in the mid 60s I played a season with Corinthians , myself and Benny in the front row striking against the head…. we reached the Connacht Senior Final only to be pipped by UCG..but we celebrated in “The Skeff” as if we had won….
we have just done a gig here for Red Cross in Ukraine…hope ye have a successful night ….
Hi Christy,
Hi you all,
we are fans from Belgium and would like to come to a gig in your home country.
It would be very nice to score tickets for Galway on the 20th of august.
I tell you why.
My wife and I married the 12th of august 2005 and in our wedding ceremony a few excellent musicians brought a splendig version of your “the voyage”. It was fantastic.
To celebrate our wedding day we would like to come to Ireland and enjoy a performance of yours.
But…
I saw that the gig in Galway has already a full house. Do you know if there is a way to swap tickets?
Or maybe, is there anyone who is reading this and who has 2 tickets that we eventually can buy?
You never know, I could only ask. We would be very very grateful.
Ciao, Marten
Christy's reply
fingers crossed Marten….I’m only the singer in this operation but your request has been noted
It’s all about a collection of recordings of Irish soldiers made in German prisoner of war camps during the first World War. The recordings are of songs and poems. The originals are in Berlin, but there are links to some of them here, plus profiles and links to documents.
I couldn’t see a date on the article, so apologies if you’ve seen it before.

Hope you’d a good one last night.. whenever the benefit gigs take place I always think of the power of music and the huge appreciation that must be felt by those who are being supported.. you have given many a support gig over the years for those in a difficult situation..kudos to all of the minds who help bring these special gigs to fruition..
Christy's reply
For me and the crew it was a great night…the audience who came raised 50,000 Euro which was presented by Peter Aiken the promoter to Charlie Lansom of the Red Cross…
the atmosphere was cracklin with electric energy…monday night and the place was leppin
my crew along with the Vicar Street crew had the gig nailed with great production-sound,lighting and staging all set up perfectly, every aspect perfectly prepared…In 56 years of gigging I’ve never had such focus on the job at hand….
standing side stage watching Peter Aiken present the cheque to Red Cross my mind went back to 1972 when Peter’s Father, the late Jim Aiken, promoted Planxty to play in The Carlton Cinema,O’Connell St, Dublin….since that night I’ve played hundreds of gigs for Aiken’s…..The Marquee Cork, Waterfront Belfast, Croke Park with U2,Silverbridge, Jim no longer with us but the Family still at the heart of Gigs on this Island..
I’ve 2 tickets for tonight & want to take my son to his firs Christy concert. Ticket says over 18. Will an accompanied minor be allowed access ?
Christy's reply
I’ve passed your query on to The Burghers of Vicar St.. door policy is outside my domain Aaron but I have interceded on your behalf..I hope the lad has a good night..do let us know the outcome
Dear Christy,
2020,2021, sad and hard years for everyone. These years meant the loss of friends and withdrawal into ourself.
And today is our return to Ireland! Never stay a day without your voice at home with the hope we’ll be able to be back.
April 27th, we’ll be in Sligo and we are so excited and happy to see you again.
2022 is a magic date for us : 50 years of marriage! and we’ll celebrate in different places of your country where we’ve been so happy since 1986! You are part of these happy years. You accompanied us in our “voyage”.
Thank you for what you give us.
See you soon in the Hawk’s Well Theatre.
With all our gratitude, Michelle and Léon

I’m always excited as I draw near to Sligo.. as the road from Boyle climbs the Curlews I’m waiting to catch sight of Queen Maeve and distant Ben Bulben… cruising past Colooney and Coolaney I think of the Boys and Girls of Ballisodare.. of Joe Dowd and Pumpkinhead, of Coolara House and The Mountain Inn, of Lofty & The Venue, of The Blue Lagoon..before I know it we have pulled into The Hawkswell soon to commence The Next Nights Fun
Good luck for tonight Christy and fair play for the support.. was due to be on board tonight but the work flow is full steam ahead this week.. catch you down at the Hawkswell seachtain seo chugainn.. ‘I went down to the Hazelwood..’
Hello Christy,
Thankyou for the poem name by Mike Harding. Sunflowers is a powerful piece. I’d love to hear what you do with it. It will make a great centrepiece tonight.
I’d post what I found, but it sounds like you’re working on it.

I did not turn up for my own 21st back in 1966…my Mother had a party set up in the house… but I got distracted at a Fleadh Ceol in Portarlington..my 21st birthday celebration went ahead without me and, by all accounts, they had a really good time…one neighbour told me later that I was not missed …even slightly
Hello Christy,
God mam and I will begod
That’s my favourite line from Bord Na Mona Man.
How to address the maker when she’s female.
I smile every time I hear it, so that’s a lot of smiling.
I’ve been reading the epic nonsense of The bundle of lies. It runs cartwheels through your head, doesn’t it. It comes up for breath once or twice briefly. Thankyou.
Your Grandad sounds like a great man.
The flowers are blooming in your garden of everlasting song. May it be a long and fruitful summer.
I’m thinking of all the people the songs you sing have reached and influenced. Me not least. Listening to you has turned the whole of my musical world on its head and set me off on a completely different path. I’m so thankful for it. Classical music had got pretty barren for me, and now the basket is overflowing with joyful bounty. I feel like I’ve discovered a great big treasure, words from the present and the past.
I guess I should stop now.

Christy, you were looking for ‘The Carlow 15’ song last night. You may have heard this version. Great references to my hometown Castlecomer during the gig in Carlow. Great to see you in good health after Covid. Fantastic night, thanks.
Christy's reply
Thanks JB….I just love that song…heard it back in 1976 when we were domiciled adup on the ‘Comer Plateau…also heard another gem called “The Ridge & Coolcullen Brigade”…tells the story of the crew that dug there way to Old Leighlin in the “big snow” of the 40s….does’nt Richie make a right good job of the “15”…I love his delivery on this recording…also some lovely Banjo playing
I had a few great years knocking around Castlecomer…I had to organise my own gigs back then but got a lot of help from Tom Kinsella of Coon…we travelled far and wide in an old Renault 4L , we played exotic venues in Coon, The Ridge, Gowran, Ballylinan and Muckalee and major cities like Carlow,Kilkenny and Castlcomer…..and we left a trail of empty large bottles after us
