A very happy and peaceful Christmas to you and your family Christy,
We watched a great documentary on BBC late last night on the background to the Fairytale of New York….and the background to how it all came together….very interesting stuff and it showed the brilliance of Shane and Kirsty and the rest. There was also a nod to your version of the great ballad that Shane was very happy with.
The Ardilaun is calling now….roll on January. Thanks for all. the music in 2012 from the 3 of us.
Hi Christy,it’s that time of year again.I’m just back back from 21 gigs in Switzerland and I’m packing again, heading off tonight to catch the ferry to Valencia and tomorrow drive to Granada for Christmas with the inlaws.I just want to wish you and all yours a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2013.I haven’t been in touch much lately but forever listening!!I’m going back to Dublin in January for the first time since we met in The Opera House in Wexford three years ago.Naturally I’m looking forward to stepping back on Irish soil but the great news is my family have got us tickets for your gig on January 16th,so you’ll have around ten of the Heaslip clan there that night.I promise we’ll clap in time, all the best for now,Seasons Greetings….Kevin.

We met up with Doggy Anderson, Ba Dowling, Jimmy McDermot . The Rum and Black was flying.

Christy, thank you my brother. We are on the same page. Spirit and Music. You know, after your post, I did a You tube search on Emmy lou and Gram and listened to some of their awesome music! Thank you for that. Emmy is such a beautiful soul, inwardly and outwardly. I found myself playing along on my flute with the You tube video ” Gram Parson’s all star tribute In my hour of Darkness” it was fun. I find, that when I really resonate with an artist, I pick up the tune fast.
An aside, I was at the Philadelphia Folk festival. Emmy was there and I saw an old high school friend there. We saw an old Andy Warhol movie together with a hilarious – but pitiful faggot -who said, ” he threw me against the wall!” This was a laugh for me and my friend of earlier days. So, as a surprise -and after not seeing him for a while- that was my introduction. Ha! Emmy was on the stage singing at this moment. I wonder if she heard my childhood friend saying in surprise and pleasure, “Robbie!”
Just saying, I don’t care what ya do behind closed doors. That is your business alone. Just don’t involve grabbing ;and or, attacking little children.
The next day I played my flute in the morning. Johnny Cash’s daughter was there, (Roslyn?) I played a Richard Rogers tune, amongst others. I actually met Richard Rodgers in front of the American Academy of American Arts and told him how I loved his music. i feel blessed and lucky I was able to have the opportunity. Anyway, that night in the concert (Roslyn? ) Cash sang the tune,” Wouldn’t it be loverly” from My fair Lady. Ha.
One last thing, have you noticed how brunettes last longer; ie, look younger than blonds are able to in old age? Emmy – even with white hair – is still gorgeous.
Vicar Street had to be the best night ever, Every minute was amazing, enjoyed it from start to finish, was the quickest 2+ hours ever, wanted you to go on for ever, well done, your voice and music are timeless, what a delight, cant wait for the next time.

Hi Christy,
We were was told you dedicated Lisdoonvarna to my father Jim Lillis on the night of Wednesday the 19th. Our family often made the trip in to Vicar Street to see you around Christmas and, being a proud Clareman, Dad loved Lisdoonvarna most of all, helping you along with the chorus with the greatest of gusto.
Dad died, suddenly, and very unexpectedly, last Friday and we buried him on Wednesday, the same day you sang for him. I’m not sure who the angel was who got word to you to dedicate a song to him, but it was a lovely gesture, and the whole family got a great boost to hear about it from a friend who was at the concert. Maybe Dad slipped in to Vicar Street and got to hear it.
Thanks doesn’t seem to quite capture it, but, thanks Christy, you are a wonderful man.

Merry Christmas Christy, Hope all the family are well. Congrads on becoming a grandfather. Its great when Debs parents come over to visit. Lucky to have them . Mammy passed away August of last year, now we are together always. When I lived in London I used to get the bus from Victoria to Hollyhead, and the ferry home. I met Pecker at a stop over in Birmingham, and on the bus he got. We talked of songs from there to north wall, The song of the rabbits ,mixamitosas( I dont know if its spelt right). I have a photo of us on the B&I. I will never forget the stories he told me, of his life on the road, and where he was welcomed . AS he said the door swings both ways. Deb, Taylor, Les and Bailey (The cockapoo) are all well. I hope your behavin yourself, take it easy on the goose. Have you ever had the Turkey with the goose ,chicken, and duck all in one poor Turkey. heard of it ,but never seen or tasted.Maybe I get home next year, god willin.I love the changes you made to the God Woman song. You should sing it more often, there is a Yellow Furze feel to it. Thank you for keeping the Needle and Tread on your set. It reminds me of the life Mammy had, she rared all six of us well. She said ‘Manners is the lightest weight you will ever carry’ How right she was.Take care Christy.Good night Pecker, rest in peace.
Christy's reply
hey Fin…good to hear from you..really sorry to read about your Mam..I like what you said…I have shared it before but it was like being finally cut adrift from the place from where I came…lovely to read about your chance meeting with The Pecker…many people will have stories to tell about….I am reminded that I met his brother once, back in the 60s in a place called Todmorden close by The Pennines. He was a lovely fiddle player, never met him again. One of Pecker’s sons is called Stephen. Pecker leaves his wife Madelene and family Stephen, Thomas, Sarah and young Madeleine. Some of them carry on the tradition.
Funny to read of The Deluge being the opening song yesterday, as deluge hit us all day as never before in the Bay and yonder plain. Good to be 7 floors above the ground now, Chile never ceases to surprise… next thing would be a white Christmas in full summer ! Waiting for the german daughter/sister to land on sunday and share a few days together, that 4711ers community is a beautiful thing i tell you… Happy Christmas to all !
Christy's reply
enjoy yourselves…just arrived into Vicar for the final gig of 2012….also just got word of the passing of Pecker Dunne, one of the legends of Irish Music this past 60 years…a busking man, a travelling man, The Pecker sang, played guitar, banjo and fiddle…wrote “Sullivan’s John” “The Old Hi-Ace Van” “The Tinker’s Lullaby” to name but three…Pecker was truly a “one-off”, there has never been anyone quite like him…..” O Sullivan’s John to the road you’ve gone far away from your native home…..You’ve gone with The Tinker’s daughter all along the road to roam “
Hi Christy, Thanks to you and Declan and the lady who joined you on stage (didn’t catch her name) for another night of magic in Vicar St last night.
My two brothers & I make it an annual event to come and see you in Vicar St around Christmas each year. We had to make a last minute substitution this time as my younger brother came down with the flu on Tuesday. My older brother found a worthy replacement who enjoyed the gig as much as we did.
Your played last night’s opening number (“Before the Deluge”) as the opening song in the first gig that I saw you play: Carlow RTC (or the ‘IT’ as it is now) in the sping of 1989. “Let the music raise your spirits high”: it always does when it’s you performing.
God willing the full complement of brothers will be around to come back and see you next year. Thanks again and Happy Christmas.
Christy's reply
thanks for the feedback….Vicky Keating joined us for 4 songs last night…she has been gigging with Declan these past months as he promotes his first album…
