I guess I’m not alone when I say that I’m finding the political fiasco round here pretty scary right now.
The thing that’s most horrifying for me is that Boris Johnson damaged people’s lives for years and was allowed to stay in office, but 3 seconds after Liz Truss damaged the economy she was out on her ear.
I’ve never understood how it seems to be ok to get things so upside down.
It’s not OK to me, but I’m not a power and money mad megalomaniac, so my view doesn’t count.
Here’s one of my favourite songs. The video I like best of it on the Internet.
I hope it cheers and warms you. https://youtu.be/J2qLp9VR2T4
Surely if Italy can find a female Mussolini then UK & US can get Bozo & The Orange Blimp back?
Does anyone have contact details for Adolph?
We could get the band back together.
Hello Christy,
Hope you enjoy this, it’s a lovely morning here. https://youtu.be/nz1TLTR8hgo
This is the B set that’s now played by Louise Mulcahy.
They have a darker tone than the D sets.
I’m afraid I don’t know who the Harpist is.

I like the B set for the Airs …I like the tone of the D set on the big Reels
On his arrival at Holyhead, Brendan Behan was stopped at a police checkpoint and asked the purpose of his visit.
“I’m here to attend the prime minister’s funeral” he said.
“But he ain’t dead” replied the copper.
“I’ll wait” said Brendan.

Hi Christy,
The RED triangle was used for political prisoners.
Today is Wear It RED day for the charity Show Racism The RED Card.
The RED disc includes Tyrone Boys.
Wear it RED if you can today ,and think of the charity, and sing the song.
Rory the RED

I forgot to sing “Tyrone Boys” in Armagh last week…. I’d practiced “The Boys from the County Armagh” but forgot to sing that as well…the night ran away with me….then young Míchéal came up to sing with me and the gig off in a different direction altogether…I’ll be back in Armagh again next week by which time Nigel Farage may well be on the Tory Throne…free Benson & Hedges for Life
Hi Christy. What an amazing show you put on last night in Mountmellick. I thoroughly enjoyed it and loved the set list. The venue was so intimate and the audience were so warm and appreciative of your great talent,
I was very surprised to hear you mention the seven boys and men that were executed in the Curragh camp in 1922 and that the centenary is being recognised in December.
My Uncle was one of those boys. His name was Stephen White. He was only 18. His younger brother Jimmy was also captured but was spared because of his age – 17.
I have a copy of the letter that Stephen wrote to his Father the night before his execution and it would draw tears from a stone.
I’m delighted that you have written a song about this travesty and will listen out for it. Also do you know if there is a service or ceremony planned in Kildare for this centenary?
Thanks again Christy. Keep well.
Marian.
Christy, just checked the Gigs page and see you have a couple of weeks free at the end of January, do you fancy a go at being British Prime Minister? Normally only takes a couple of weeks so you should be back on/up the road by February..
Christy's reply
stop faffin about..get Nigel Farage back and be done with it
Hello Christy,
I’ve got songs that seem to connect together too, disparate songs often. After what you said I started to wonder why.
Sometimes I learnt them at the same time
Yellow Furze Woman and Musgrave
The Contender and Foxy Devil.
Sometimes I heard them for the first time on the same night.
Bright Blue Rose and Beeswing, 11th December 2019 at Vicar Street.
Sometimes they sit next to each other on albums.
Black is the colour and Foxy Devil.
Inchicore Wake and Tippin it up.
Some cry out for each other.
Natives and Quiet Desperation
Raggle taggle and that lovely wedding tune.
I have one song that I’d have to describe as “popular…”. All the other songs love Scarborough Fair, cheeky little thing that it is.
Patsy.
Ya put me to shame traveling around the midlands and Dublin to see and hear the man himself. But in saying that, I can account for about ’30’ Christy gigs. There must be some I cant remember but ’30 to 40′ I’ve been at. We could hire a gluastan and traverse the country.
Mind you, “Farmer Michael…” is about a man on the run. I think Oranmore, Athlone and Mullingar all get a mention in the song as we weaves his way from his pursuers. We could emulate Farmer Michael!
Great venue that hall in Mountmellick. I know it.
Hi Christy,
Great to have you back in the Midland’s tonight after you travels to the Northern hills. It’s a lovely cosy and intimate venue. You were in fine fettle tonight with a wonderful set list. The audience too were gentle, sweet, and well-tuned in. Thanks for picking up on my call for “Farmer” which you delivered with gusto.
Best Regards,
Ride Onn.

Hi Christy – Hope you and yours are keeping well. I have a question on behalf of my dad, who is one of your oldest fans I would reckon. He won a competition in 1982 and got a bodhran signed by you after a gig in the beautiful National Concert Hall. About 7 or 8 years ago you kindly resigned it after a gig in Vicar Street, as the signature had faded almost completely off. He would love to get it signed again this year to celebrate 40 years of having it as a proud souvenir in our house. He didn’t get tickets to the show this year but is there any chance he could bring it into Vicar St after the gig on December 12th and get it to you to re-sign? Thanks very much for all the music and song, hope this year’s shows go brilliantly as I’m sure they will and really enjoyed that video of you signing with the amazing young fella in Armagh recently, really inspirational
That’s another reason I spent all them nights in the woods muttering away to meself “Bet this never happens to Christy Moore or Paul fecking Brady” Devil is in the detail and what are we pulling the fecker by the tail I tell ya.
Enjoy the gig
Bourkey
Rory,
Good shout with Lawless. Matty is another story that Christy sings well. Hope they both make it into the big hat for the Vicar Street run. Ye Vagabonds were in town on Monday but couldn’t make it. We got to see Luka Bloom on the Friday and he was in great form. Take care

Backstage here in beautiful Mountmellick…lovely Theatre in the heart of the Town…last played here 7 years ago..twas a Summer’s evening very different from todays stormy passage…thunder and lightning, torrents of rain all along the M7 until we entered the Curragh of Kildare when the Sun came out and everything changed…so much so that we pulled up the wagon and went for a jog across to The Gibbet Rath and back around again past ( what was ) The Jockey Hospital…. ( now St Brigid’s Hospice )
interesting that you link “Matty” and “Lawless”….I sometimes link disparate songs in my own head and these two are an example…. others would include “Gortagort” and “Two Conneeleys”……” A Pair of Brown Eyes” and “Lightning, Bird,Wind, River man”
we went to a good gig last Saturday night upstairs in Whelan’s Dublin…. The Burma were the featured band and they did a powerful set..they were supported by The Davies Brothers from Doolin West Clare….
I’ve known the drummer from The Burma since he was a small lad…great to see the Band making such big sounds
Hello Christy,
I’ve ordered two books with my birthday money.
The PW Joyce Ancient Irish Airs book that you mentioned in the ITMA thing.
And Collecting Music in the Aran Islands by Deirdre Ni Chonghaile.
Looking forward to them.
