Hello Christy,
With all the talk about the Bob Dylan gig I thought I’d better have a look.
Saw a clip on YouTube and I couldn’t understand a word he was singing.
So it’s a weird combination for me, amazing song writing but no words in the performance. I guess I was at a disadvantage because I don’t really know his stuff apart from things sung by everyone else. The sound may be beautiful but the words are the song? https://youtu.be/xgKGnYBT1C4
I caught a match with the Fijians a couple of years ago. Hammer and tongs stuff. They should be great opponents this weekend, or maybe just massive and scary, depending on your point of view.
I found a pic of dress that I’d suggest is appropriate attire for meeting them in the scrum. Link in the next post as I know it will only allow one link per post.

Hi Christy,
Its time to top up the washer fluid, check the oil, kick the tyres, ‘was that scratch always there?’, wrap the sandwiches, fill the flask, iron the shirt, spare jocks, socks, shirts n’all, toothpaste, toothpick, keys, phone, wallet, tickets!
Hitting the road from Galway to Dundalk tomorrow. I welcomed another of the Milwaukee5 from the States yesterday and after a few weeks of planning we’re lucky (very lucky!) to have secured 2 x tickets for your gig in the Carrickdale. Timing is perfect and there is someone out there and up there looking after us.
We had our fill from a tour around Galway last night, from The Pucan to O’Connells, The Skeff, The Cellar and down along Shop St. and you can guess well where else we stopped. T’wasnt that we had to have a toast in every house but a grand tour was had. Some amount of ceoil agus craic was had, the pints, fiddles and bohrans were flying high at a few stages. The beds were booked in Jurys so all we had to do was convince the two at the door that we were on the roll call. Now its off for the toast and rashers and a few hard boiled eggs to calm me nerves, might chance the grilled tomato (when your out, your out!).
So we’ll see you when we see you. Looking forward to it as its a long time since I’ve been at one of your gigs east of the Shannon and the yank (Dan Sweeney from Milwaukee) hasn’t seen you since the two nights in The Great Northern in Oct.’19. That’s the trip that formed the Milwaukee5. A story for another time.
We’ll be hitting the road early Sat morning back down west and onto Co. Clare to hike the Burren and cliff walk from Doolin Sunday. If Lisdoon is on the setlist great as you’ll be toasted in The Ritz at some point. Enjoy the gig
Christy's reply
so we are reduced now to The Milwaukee 2…..doubtless you’ll keep the flag flying high in the Jonesboro maelstrom….Carrickdale has its own energy
You may need to add a verse for Caoimhín Kelleher to the new Cork song. Three saves out of five in a penalty shootout.
Then again you may not.
Christy's reply
Joxer is frozen in time, sacrosanct…..Caoímhín’s remarkable performance outstanding in itself….some Cork Balladeer may be writing a tribute even as we speak…Myles Gaffney could be at it right now…or Jimmy Crowley
Seeing you for the 4th time this coming Friday in the Carrickdale. The last time I saw you was in the same venue back in July 2019. I rember you played one of my all time favourites, Compaňeros – would love the same again on Friday.

Christy, being a Victorian (State) boy, rugby was not a priority growing up. Aussie Rules (“aerial ping pong” to the scathing Northern Eastern seaboard) was/IS my passion however I have watched more rugby in my later years…
Re Dylan: “Tomorrow is a long time” (Greatest Hits ii album) is a favourite of mine – I reckon it’s a thoughtful & deeply felt cut…
As Joan Baez said, some people don’t get him, not interested: those who do get him, it goes deep…
Sounds like his concerts are going down a treat- good! I’ve seen him at least 3 times in Oz, could be 4? Apart from Adelaide where he was affected by SOMETHING & confused his band with the song list & mumbled incoherently, all other times he was magic: quick witted, in tune with the moment & his guitar, good humoured & a delight to see

Good evening Christy, two things
Firstly , one of your favourites ‘the curragh of kildare’ has a decent relatively recent cover by Dexys, and interestingly Kevin Rowland’s Dexys has now teamed up with Primal Scream for a great song ‘enough is enough’ worth checking out.
Secondly, son Charlie and i were at a Jamie T gig last night in Glasgow, as we headed back to his Dennistoun flat we were spinning your latest album and he mentioned how he loved your Clocks Tick Down to Zero, it strikes the right note from the era of me and you to the age of charlie and andy. Good work

Hi Christy
Almost 30 years ago, Els and I first met you on that magic summer night in Dranouter. Next Friday we’ll be back in Dundalk at your gig. We met before in Dundalk, back in 2016, in the same weekend, for us in Belgium a bank holiday on Friday, because of the Remembrance Day of the first World War. Your granduncle died in Flanders Fields, my grandfather whom I never knew, also was captured during four long years.
My first mate and me, we will not be alone on Friday, we now have our own crew. You met them before : our son Lars and his girlfriend Paulien, and our daughter Eva. I’m so happy they became fan of your music as well.
We are so grateful we still can come back to the Island, to meet the fantastic Irish people, your crew, the 4711-ers and to listen to your beautiful music. Looking forward so much to the gig on Friday

Hi Christy,
I know from previous posts & replies that you are a bit of a film buff. I went to see The Banshees Of Inisherin last night, two hours well spent. I don’t know what was most impressive. the great acting or the beauiful Inishmore & Achili Island landscapes.

I wish I was back in Liverpool….six in the bed down the old Pierhead and its Liverpool Town for me..never got no free black and tan..I stood on the corner of Bebington Bush watchin Seth Davy ’til Liverpool Lou came along and brought me to meet Alan Williams in the Marlboro Arms…
Stop Press….just been called up for Saturdays squad versus Fiji…hope I can find my boots…may need new scrum cap and a quick run thru latest scrummaging tecniques for aged tight heads….my last Scrum was for Corinthians in the Showground Galway in 1966 when we took 4 against -the-head before going down against UCG….they were captained that day by Mick Molloy who went on the play for Ireland, The Lions and Barbarians….afterwards we took comfort from Pints of Guinness in The Skeff before heading out to O’Connor’s in Salthill for Ballads and more porter…..myself and the late Benny O’Connor loved striking against the head….
Thank you for your gracious reply Christy.
You to me are a true Irish person, proud of good history & quick to rail against perceived injustice.
I have a memory of 2014, October…i popped into The Speakeasy Bar in High St., Killarney after putting a few bets on at Paddy Power across the road.
I won’t go on about the engaging locals except to say that the ghost of my dead Father shinnied up beside me on a stool & pointed at his tips on the form guide.
At first I thought he was speaking in Gaelic & so I kindly nodded & gave him the thumbs up. To my surprise I started to hear his words & their meaning clearly & from then on I had a rollicking good time chatting away with all present.

I’m glad you both enjoyed the goodies. I wanted to give you a little taste of Yorkshire. The biscuits were made in Brighouse. I don’t drink tea so I don’t know what it’s like, Steve drinks McEntee’s gold blend loose tea. He says it’s the teaiest tea he’s ever tasted.
I’m glad to be back practising at home. I like to have a piano handy for warming up. Hangover from classical days… After 4 years of listening carefully to you and trying to emulate, I warm up 3 octaves. The bottom end now exists! Thanks for the reply Christy. We found the house last week while we were in Dublin visiting family. We took a chance on what I remembered about the area, and then we bumped into a local who took us straight to the house. It was wonderful!
I’ve always wanted to go back, Dad spoke of it often, but he passed away six years ago, so we have no more stories from him, but it made me want to find it all the more.
Christy's reply
we still remember arriving down to Coolcullen..Summer of ’76 I think…Brian and your Mother gave us a great welcome…the house was beautiful in the Summer Sun..we had a couple of good years there before work brought us back to Dublin…
Glad to know that you found your way back..not an easy place to fine which was part of its attraction
I hope they looked after you with a comfy box and tea of whatever variety you want… And biscuits etc…
And then maybe we can get back to the rockstar stuff…

back here in the Opera House again..first time in many years….show time in 90 minutes..final preparations buzzing around me…sound check done, lights focused, guitars tuned..bodhrán tested….thanks for coming back tonight to be part of this tribute to Don O’Leary… …………in aid of The Cork Life Centre
Thanks for the reply Christy. We found the house last week while we were in Dublin visiting family. We took a chance on what I remembered about the area, and then we bumped into a local who took us straight to the house. It was wonderful!
I’ve always wanted to go back, Dad spoke of it often, but he passed away six years ago, so we have no more stories from him, but it made me want to find it all the more.
we still remember arriving down to Coolcullen..Summer of ’76 I think…Brian and your Mother gave us a great welcome…the house was beautiful in the Summer Sun..we had a couple of good years there before work brought us back to Dublin…
Glad to know that you found your way back..not an easy place to fine which was part of its attraction
I hope they looked after you with a comfy box and tea of whatever variety you want… And biscuits etc…
And then maybe we can get back to the rockstar stuff…
