Hi Christy.Brilliant start to the HQ run of gigs tonight. You really took control of the room, and steered us from port to port with Gusto….. even the Banner folk got 2, the Cliffs & Lisdoon ….. got me to thinking on the way home how many, if any Counties in Ireland do not have a song with the name of the County in it ?. Answers on a €50 note.😂.
Best regards
Ride on.

Morra Patsy,
I think you took a wrong turn after Ennis..when you were gazing across the Shannon towards Dooneen …we were amusing a passing fancy in Spancilhill ..just after the porridge here, reflecting upon last nights fun ..

Hello Christy,
No idea about good ways to get stoned, I was quoting John Liverpool. I only do alcohol and my drugs of choice are meditation and performing.
There’s nothing like staring at a plain white bed cover for hours to bring on the visions 😊
My family lost my mum yesterday in the very early morning. My dad had a brain flip when he rang to tell us and instead said he had to go to the chemist to get some blood pressure pills. So it was all very confused and shambolic. A family thing that will get told for years to come, I guess.
Well done to Danny for his first radio show! Well done you!
All my best wishes to you as you start your latest Vicar Street marathon. We’ll be there on 9th and 11th January.
we send condolences ..many 4711ers have posted notes of sympathy to you and family…
Its 30 years now since we lost our Mother..never a day passes without her being remembered…at the time I felt like a boat finally cut adrift from its lifelong mooring…
there will be raw emotional times ahead that I hope you can endure…..my own experience was that time brought healing…sorrow was slowly and gradually replaced by good memories, by gratitude for all the things She did for us across our early years..
she loved to sing…singing was her comfort and her meditation..singing and playing her piano
Hello Doug,
A noble call for Southern Winds.
Written by Tom McCreesh for his first cousin
Raymond McCreesh who died on 21 May 1981
after 61 days on hunger strike.
Christy's reply
weel done Bourkey…
my brother Wolf carried Tom McCreesh’s beautiful song from California back to Cork and shared it with me…Its many years since I’ve sung it..
The ever encroaching waters lap at our doors as Australia sits under an uncommonly long wet spell – Greta’s right: we’ve stuffed things up & best get to it NOW if we’re going to improve things…
What stupid selfish creatures are we humans – blindly self harming without a thought otherwise
I love the tenderness of “Nancy Spain”, there’s a softness here, almost a “shh! Don’t wake her” lullaby feeling
Heartfelt & gentle, one of my new faves. I find myself humming the tune in the supermarket, refuelling the car & shuffling around this artificial island…
Hey Ed Coyle: thanks for tuning in : forgive the occasional glitch – I’m blaming gremlins in the system – I gave a shout out to you – I’m learning as I go
Keep safe Christyians

Hi Christy, up in the north today ( of scotland not ireland) but not too far from Huntly town and the land of Bogie’s Bonnie Belle…that is how this post started but i got called in to work and off a break so didnt finish it and am now back home, in bed, thinking of the song again.
It is a song that keeps coming back to me from time to time, perhaps because this version is Scots, perhaps because i was lucky enough to stumble upon it on a compilation cd ‘common ground’ in Hawicks’s old record shop years ago, maybe for some other reason like the ‘tinkering’ mentioned in the song.
Anyway, these old songs always deseve an airing , like when you released that early years compilation recently.
Take care
Rory
Doug, my ‘lineage’ extends to fifty years this year, from 1972 right up to the present. Nice to see the love of the music extending into a next generation with daughter Eleanor. I dont know ‘Southern Winds’, like those zany TV adverts if someone hums a line for me I might know it.
Tuned into Hazz last night.
Dear Christy,I have been enjoying your gigs since Omagh St Enda’s Hall over 40 years ago to ‘The Finsbury Fleadhs’ in London in the late 80s.Looking forward to seeing you again Wednesday 22nd November at Vicar Street with my daughter Eleanor who has become a smitten fan aswell and would love to hear ‘Southern Winds’
Dear Christy..
Today is my lucky day, not only did I and Barbara arrive safely at Dublin Airport this morning from Frankfurt. But just now I was able to reset my password for the Guestbook, after I had tried in vain for several days.
So now I can tell you, that we‘re just in Dublin to hear you tomorrow at VicarSt.
We saw you last on 8.May at NCH..that was a remarkable show…we are excited to see / hear you again soon now..
Your music accompanies me through my life for many years now..I just love it!Thank you so much, dear Christy .
Keep well and safe,..
Herzliche Grüße, also from Barbara,
Trudy from Frankfurt
Hi Christy, I’m chancing my arm here. My mam and dad are old friends of yours from inchicore…you might remember them Kay and Joe O Loughlin, emmet Road and Gael Scoil. traditionally we come to see you in vicar st every Xmas so we are heading to see you next Tuesday night 29th for dad’s 75th birthday. I know I’ve heard you give a shout out before but wondering if you had a minute to say hello to mam and dad on the night. A cheeky ask but thought I would chance.it..le meas, Niamh x
Christy's reply
Hope all goes well Níamh…I’m looking forward to Vicar St
Christy, you have been usurped. I think I may have got you wrong. I didn’t know just how terrifying your life as a musician could be. You discovered “Enniskillen” and “Curragh of Kildare” in ’62, the age of my not-so-immaculate conception. I think my Dad was there at the time if I can remember it well.
The Malvern Folk Club I believe has closed. I used to sing “Only Our Rivers” there and the whole bar fell silent. Is it one of your favourites?
I maybe moving north of the border soon. I would prefer it was Ireland! I first stayed in Whitegates with my History teacher and he was caring for an elderly sailor in his make-shift hovel on the beach. I was a young lad then… If it’s any comfort courage is not doing things with the absence of fear, it is feeling the fear and doing it anyway. Repression helps but I was foolish to make conscious my fears. Why do you feel that you have lost some of your morals? Be Kind.
Christy,I am hearing unconfirmed reports that Joxer went to Qatar? Story goes he arrived last Thursday, got stoned on Friday (not in a good way) because of ‘innapproprate behaviour’ with a Germans daughter in a public place. Jailed on Saturday for drinking his £12:50 pint in an anauthorised area and deported yesterday for singing Revenge for Skibbereen, not sure if this was because of the political content of the song or because the last time he sang it he was seen arm in arm with another man (Jack Charlton). Reports say he was last seen in the departure lounge at Doha airport wearing a rainbow armband singing ‘Sing if your glad to be Gay’ by Tom Robinson. Can you confirm if its true or, was I only dreaming?
Christy's reply
I can authenticate the veracity of all you heard to the very last detail… I collected the poor man from the Airport…his body bruised, his clothes in tatters and his spirit bruised by the loathsome treatment endured amidst the sand and oil wells…but Joxer is not one to hold resentments.. he met a female police officer whilst in custody, he has invited her to Dublin for St Patricks Month in 2023…she heard him singing “The Red Rose Cafe” whilst in custody..she entered his cell where, according to all accounts, they spent the night comparing notes on the similarities in both their countries….more anon
NB… should be name of County in title !!
as the old song goes..
“there ‘s one fair county in Ireland,
Longford Westmeath and Roscommon”…

Hello Christy,
Thank you for your words about my story. There’s plenty more weirdness where that came from.
Oh John, I so hope you’re right about Joxer’s adventures in Qatar, apart from the getting stoned in not a good way.
Rebecca
is there a good way to get stoned ?
