Thanks for your ongoing support..
We’ll have to see about a Carlow Tour David….we might kick it off in Bilboa before heading for Old Leighlin, Muine Bheag, St Mullins, Borris and Tullow,…then we’ll freewheel into the Capitol and play,Carpenters,Fury’s, Archibolds, The Seven Oaks, The Regional with a finale in the George Bernard Shaw….all Carlow songs will be refreshed and rejuvenated to include The Carlow Fifteen, The Ridge & Coolcullen Brigade,Follow Me Up, Sugar Sugar (you’re so sweet) and the Battle for Pedigree Corner….the stage will be dressed in the Carlow Colours and there will be Scallion Sandwiches at the interval…free buses will be laid on from Muckalee, Coon, Kane’s Bridge, Mooneenroe and The Swan…I have it on good authority that The Salmon Pool will remain open late for those who wish to get off the Bus after Coon after midnight..we got the nod from the local Super ( he plays a hot melodeon if theres a few auld gargles thrown into him…he will accompanied by a Ban-garda on spoons )
“there will be lashings of drink and wine for the shadys, ( for the sake of political correctness…Carlow being a PC hub)
potatoes and cake, bacon and tae..
Nolans, Dolans all the O’Gradys
Sportin & Courtin and dancin away”
I remember you praising folk clubs in West Cumbria from your gigging days there (and the quality pies in Cockermouth!) So,good to have an update from that fine town…
Co ordinated by the Kirkgate arts centre, there s an excellent list of gigs, drama etc as part of a rural touring set up, visiting village halls and community venues in West Cumbria.

it was a tasty circuit back then…about 10 clubs over 13 nights….I recall Cockermouth, Troutbeck, Whitehaven,Workington, Penrith,Ambleside, Carlisle,Barrow,Keswick..its 55 years ago. I’m a bit hazy on precise details…the circuit was organised my Muriel Greaves who was resident singer at the Cockermouth Club,….on one trip I was accompanied by my brother Barry Moore (aka Luka Bloom) then 13 years old…he sang at a few of the clubs….it was an exciting time…I’d just purchased my first car for ÂŁ50 and my first steel strung Guitar for ÂŁ40 (a Yamaha FG 180)….I was considering the move to plectrum from finger style and I had just discovered Woody Guthrie via Tony Small from Galway..I was on the pig’s back
Dear Christy, i piggyback on my son’s spotify sometimes and today it confirmed it listens to me, i was told that this year so far i have a top 5!
Apparently you were only number 3, behind messrs keenan and mcginn, but ahead of jamie T and Gill scott heron, not sure if they send you a bronze medal but at least it is an ireland clean sweep on the medal rostrum….with the national anthem of ‘yellow triangle’ currently playing.
I still prefer the vinyl and cds, the tipperary heroes cd is whirring in the car , with smoke and strong whiskey birling round the turntable mostly.
Keep turning at 78 revolutions a minute.

Hi christy …fitba crazy , fitba mad?
but really only for celtic ( and a bit of the toon), scunnered by the fifa twits claiming ronaldo is a genius for winning a penalty by ‘leaving his leg’, the faking of injuries, the culture of me,me,me ( except for a few like paddy mccourt and marcus rashford) , the fitba it has robbed me of the wee bit sense i had….
Have boycotted the wc, scandallous stuff, we should all listen to Mick Blake’s latest sonnet.

No interest in current soccer sham
after 60 years,a lifelong interest in English Soccer is on the wane
I’ll try and avert my gaze from M.O.T.D. which I’ve been watching religiously since the late 60s
the antics of some of the players has become increasingly unacceptable…over the last two decades soccer has become a corrupt sham…Blatter, Platini, Beckham, our own John Delaney, but four of the greedy, crass, corrupt practitioners who have ruined the atmosphere around this once beautiful game
I value precious memories from Craven Cottage in the 60s, Old Trafford and Parkhead in the 70s
last game I attended was at Anfield….the ref blew his k/o whistle half way thru the beautiful anthem as 50,000 fans sang heartily with Gerry Marsden…I realised he was obeying orders his Sky TV Master …it was a deflating moment for those us who had travelled from Dublin
Rant Over Danny…. Hope all well with above there in OZ..its a grand winter’s morning down here in Eire…shortly heading into the hit factory to lay down a few chords and shimmies and shakes…keep coming back
Hello Christie,
Any chance you might be playing any Ireland gigs in mid/late April? I’m bringing 12 lads across for some golf and would love to take in a show. cheers, John

Hi John..they are all there on the gig listing on this site…have a good trip
I made friends with strangers last night, I met people who were seeing you for the first time, as I watched the venue fill up there was an air of excitement all around me then when irelands treasure of folk walked on stage with his arms held high welcoming us abord and we repayed you with such an uproar, you sang happy songs happy clappy songs best of all were your bold ones … thank you Christy for such a fantastic night’s entertainment, … we love you

great crowd…your “uproar” truly inspiring..thats what gives me the energy to do these gigs…ye put pep in my step, lead in my pencil, fire in my belly..I’ll cease the analogising here !
Hello Christy,
Ok, I’m having a thick day. You’ve confused me when you said,
“many old & new Folk songs have entered popular culture (not all of them Irish)…many examples spring to mind”
Do you mean songs like Athenry taking on a life of their own, or folk songs travelling long distances and taking root in different places, Spancil Hill? Sorry, thick day, as I said..
Recording huh? Is it the new, Cork song?
I’m timing songs here for my gig on 10th December I never thought it would become so easy to fill an hour with music.

The Ballad of Seth Davy
Dirty Old Town

The Plane Crash at Los Gatos
Black is The Colour
Curragh of Kildare
Sonny’s Dream
these 7, and many more, are now part of our public song repertoire
Hi Christy,
I’m frightened of what’s happening to this little planet of ours and our fellow species. Are you? My Dad fought with Irish soldiers in Korea and now it is all happening all over again. My Dad was a bastard but he never had a bad word to say about the Irish people. He believed that wars solved nothing and so do I.
I hope you understand. Keep sending the love and forgiveness, if you can. Hugs.
Have you ever sussed and played this one about the curse that haunted and blighted Van Gogh?
“Now I think I know
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free
They would not listen, they’re not listening still
Perhaps they never will”
Don McClean. Starry, Starry Night.

Hi Christy,
Yesterday I was down at Tesco buying a large bag of dog nuggets for my loyal pet and was in the checkout queue when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog.
On impulse I told her that no, I didn’t but I was starting the Doggie Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn’t, because I ended up in the hospital the last time and had lost two stone before I woke up in intensive care with tubes coming out of most of my orifices. I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pockets with doggie nuggets and eat one or two every time you feel hungry.
The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. At this point practically everyone in the queue was now enthralled with my story.
She asked me if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me ? I told her no that I had stepped off the kerb to sniff an Irish setter’s arse and got run over by a car.
Enjoy tonight’s show

in fairness Bourkey..some of them setters are joyful to behold….mirabile visu as Casey might say….I believe that,in certain cultures, they does be on the menu….I knew a man once who extolled the virtues of canine steak…he’d stand after the dinner wagging his tail….
I knew another lad over seas who would put whiskas in his vindalloos…and always kept two bog rolls in the fridge..
last nights gig was a lepper…26 songs in 103 minutes…I was parched after it…
going into the studio today, some new verses to record….
See what you get in here. Incorrect forecasts(!) After Brazil already being denied a ‘legitimate’ goal over VAR. I think they go top now of their group.

Christy, it’s all in You Tube, I’ve looked. Perhaps a request could be sent up to the stage come next June in Dublin to play ‘Wallflower’.
Now back to waiting for a Brazian score. Second half beginning. Brazil will fail to score. You see, you wind up getting “forecasts” in here.

Hello Christy,
Thanks for all the info on Yorkshire songs. Strange how you know so much more about songs from my area than I do. I guess they’re not treasured here like they should be.
I think Ed is right about death being done well in Ireland, and not so well in England, if Sail on Jimmy is anything to go by. The funeral isn’t till 9th December and, at 52 years of age, this is the first burial I’ve ever been to. Death is still a taboo subject here. Most people are uncomfortable talking about it. The body does not usually rest overnight at home before the funeral service. This means that the wake is usually after the funeral service and the body is not present. My mum will be lying in church the night before the funeral, so we can go to sit with her for a while, at least.
