Christy, I wonder if Joxer was in Australia?
Reports of an Irishman streaking down the straight at the Melbourne Cup, scaling the sails at the Sydney Opera House, propositioning the daughter of Canberra dignitaries, urinating on the pitch at the Adelaide Test cricket match & skolling pints at an outback pub near Alice Springs during verses of “Don’t forget your shovel” sound suspiciously like a certain cove…
And I won’t comment on his Big Brother audition & the pursuant counselling required…

Glad but not surprised the Vicar Street gigs are going down a storm. Looking forward to January and if either Gortagort or A Pair of Brown Eyes get a shout – Happy Days.
Speaking of days someone once said
“Reach the end of any one day and feel that you took from it and gave back to it as much as possible. I hate to waste days.
Someone else wrote Thank you for the Days
But someone else sang it better

Thanks for another cracker in Vicar St Christy. Loved hearing Away You Broken Heart and Sonny’s Dream was magic.. I always find that image of him sitting by the window watching the waves so clear.. Do you ever find that with certain songs, the rolling images can change but some are constant(and beautiful)? Jaysus I had no intention of diggin’ deep here. Wishing all continued strength and good health for the upcoming shows.
Keep er lit

Christy's reply
Good man Kev…yes ..with both those songs the same movie runs in my head every time…I sit by the window with Sonny …I stand somewhere near the ocean with Giuseppe….

Hello Christy. In January 2004 i made my 1st visit to Vicar St.It was to se e yourself and the famous Planxty in action. That was a memorable night to by any standards. But last night in my mind surpased it.It was one of your best concerts i was ever at .The way you captured the crowd was a joy to behold. The minute you set foot on the stage you had the crowd captured until we walked out of Vicar St.Long may you continue treating us to nights like this. Thanks again Christy.

David mo cara….memories of those heady nights in De Barras come flooding back..duetting with small Brian and big Bobby smiling like the plains of Kildare..the plain clothes traffic warden in the front row and Frank keeping a sharp Dublin eye on proceedings…..provos and stickies sitting side by side with barristers and dentists..wolf barking down the back..perplexed septic tanks just in from Shannon looking for their roots..hungry hoors down from Kildare mad out of it on black puddin and poitín… lorry loads of international superstars perplexed by the Clonakilty cool ….
yes David..we all had a ball last night in The Black Lagoon..you’ll have bald tyres from all your travelling..(Hilary has a good source of Kerry remoulds if you give her a call..but not during the gig !!!) tell Gavin I was askin for him and to get the spuds on
Hi C. Well last night was in serious contention for gig of the year on so many levels ! You sang some setlist, a commentary all of it’s own on the state of the world. From Oblivious to Lisdoonvarna and all points in between. From the way women are treated to the fun of football tournaments in past decades, to the hypocrisy of (men) of religion, to the joy of Voyage and the challenges in Beeswing to the memory of friends and the welcome to visitors. It was all wrapped up in such engagement and exchange of energy and fun with the audience, who were themselves also mighty. It is indeed a privilege and honour to be present. Beir bua agus beannacht go deo. H
Christy's reply
it was flyin, leppin, mad, crack,….dont know where it came out of…had no intention of singin Brendan, Anne Lovett,Casey, bangin in Ord Man after Tuam, I was hangin on fr dear life wherever the night took me..its the great thing about gatherings..never again will that gaggle be together…every audience is a one off, just like every set list…you;ll have to stop ringing Timoleague during the gig..whatever ring tone is on that phone I thought the roof was coming in…tell Dave not to worry but I’ve left instructions to have him frisked and body searched in future !!!
Now and again, we riff on art here. Hopefully, you and readers will be interested in checking out the work of Manchester artists at http://www.thesculpts.com a clever mix of the city s history and skilful art. The alphabet cards are a great buy, especially… They really do put the S in Suffragette City…
This is my favourite song. The rhythm, the way it rhymes, the story, the movie, the magic, the light, the realism, the love. https://youtu.be/i6lmYVx1E_w
Hello Christy,
There are a lot of very happy people here who were at your gig last night. Sounds like it was brilliant!
So day 3 of my top songs and I’m trying to find a recording to match.
Barrowland delivers! https://youtu.be/c5_wZmTHfo8
P.S. I’m sorry for kind of interrupting Joxer, but I think we all had a good laugh that was worth it ;-). And Jack Charlton deserves it anyway to be proclaimed an honorary Irish man more than once…
A German’s daughter who hasn’t been to Ballyfermot yet…
Christy's reply
Joxer and Brunhilda tied the knot in the Oblates Church Inchicore in !989…Much as she loved Joxer, Brunhilda was forever homesick for her beloved Deutchland…Joxer took some German lessons in the Goethe Institute and, being a cunning linguist, soon mastered his wife’s native tongue….they loaded up the Bedford Van and set sail in 1990…..
Landing in Hamburg they started their new life together and have never looked back…however things took a turn… Brunhilda answered the door one day to two Jehovas Witnesses….long story short, she now lives in Salt Lake City…..Joxer opened an authentic Irisch Bar in Gooter Strasse in Kaiserslauterin…he remarried an Iranian kick boxer who keeps him on a tight leash…he comes back every Patrick’s Day and is as happy as a dog with two (contd P.94)

Dear Christy,
well, what should I say: I was so dumbfounded and surprised by your question/offer, I couldn’t decide… or let’s put it in another way: “I was happy with what I got” ;-). No need to ask for a special song, your choice was brilliant: a perfect mixture of funny songs, romantic songs and those with a message, that unfortunately is getting more and more important again (Yellow Triangle).
Thank you, your team and Hilary for being so thoughtful and caring! Thanks a million for making me again priceless presents today and making that special day even more memorable!!! I really do appreciate that and it keeps me smiling again and again when I think of this great evening and each time when I’m looking at these brilliant souvenirs!!!
Hope to see you again next year! Take care and all the best to you! And even if it’s a few days and four more gigs to go: Happy Christmas to you and your loved ones!
Birgit (from close to the banks of the river Rhine 😉 )

we had a good night….great vibrations..sweet juju..the audience was inspiring not one Toten Hosen in de Room
Christy – We just got out of the Vicar street. Great show tonight! You’re in amazing form and the crowd was verging on raucous. I finally got my beloved Molly to a show. We’ll be at the Wed show in the front row as well. Can’t wait! Have a great night!

Oh, Napoleon Bonaparte, you’re the cause of my woe
Since my bonny light horseman to the wars he did go
Broken hearted I’ll wander, broken hearted I’ll remain
Since my bonny light horseman in the wars he was slain.
Hi Christy, countdown tonight running:-). Had a great stay in Dublin so far – starting with a little pub crawl on Saturday, meeting my dear friends of Gypsy Lacey in Baker’s Corner yesterday and today a nice’n’windy walk from Sandymount to Dun Laoghaire East Pier lighthouse. Now I’m looking forward for the highlight tonight – couldn’t be happier :-).
All the best
Birgit
I have a ticket for tonight and I’m stuck in Scotland due to the issue at Glasgow Airport. Please let me know if anyone could use the ticket. I’m upset as it was on my bucket list to see Christy in concert in Dublin 🙄
Christy's reply
What a set back BV…hang on to that ticket and we’ll honour next time you’re coming to a gig…just let us know
This is a gloriously intimate performance of a song that talks very clearly to many people.. The home place.
I first discovered it round about the time that “32 words for field” was published.
It’s a song that nestles in your heart. https://youtu.be/qtKNq41Ot-s

Never saw this recording before…I’d forgotten that it happened…”Gortatagort” may be my favourite song to sing…John Spillane’s lyric carries me away every time…always back to the very same place..
Our President has always been a great listener.. a man of words and of humour..he has known the two days and has never forgotten his roots
Here’s the second song for today.
This recording is a tour de force of all those torrents of words that sound so beautifully improvised but probably take hours of work to pull together.
It’s often talked about on the guestbook, and I hope one day that I might hear it live. https://youtu.be/B7_9h0uk65M
Hello Christy,
I was at one of your gigs recently when someone called out for a song, and you came back quick as a flash, “I did it half an hour ago…”
I’m thinking they wanted to hear it again.
When I’m learning a new song I listen and listen and listen. After about 6 run throughs I’m usually starting to get the shape reasonably accurately. I’m slow to pick up tunes.
Anyway here is day 2 of my top songs you’ve sung.
I listen to this one nearly every day, it’s the song I’ve spent the most time with. And it’s an absolute epic! Everything about it is huge. I love it. https://youtu.be/p0-gcccksAg
