What a way to kick off the NY. As always Christy you were brilliant. Thank you for allowing us to “sing” along, such lovely lyrics, songs and stories. Amazing night as always. Keep the gigs going !!
Back home after magical gig in Vicar St on Sunday night. Greatly appreciate the ‘shout out’ you gave to the 4 guys from Scotland ,Christy, and thank you so much for obliging my request by playing Allende. Absolutely loved it.

Hi Christy,
This is the day 7 men swam ashore in a north of ireland sea lough some years ago, perhaps it is the day to be singing of 16 fishermen raving?
You could eat your fry off the back of her neck and if you want some more say ‘please’.

Hi All. Just to follow on from Adam’s post. It was indeed sad to hear that Deirdre has passed away, may her rest be peaceful. We had some great times together on many road trips. Deirdre had a great sense of humour and loved the gigs, she really came to see Declan, sorry Christy ! she loved his music and his guitar playing they became good friends. Adam and Deirdre and I covered a lot of miles together in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. She loved the sea always went paddling no matter what time of the year, she also had an abiding interest in Michael Collins we visited many places associated with him. As Adam has already mentioned she was also very generous and was indeed very fond of Adam, as many of us are. This forum has facilitated so many good connections and some great friendships all around the music and the gigs. Carpe Diem. Beir bua agus beannacht. H
Christy's reply
no need to be sorry Hilary..Deirdre was Declan’s number two fan…after me !…
indeed and we have gathered a good kinship of songsters here …which I cherish and for which I am eternally grateful….
Sail On..Shine On…Ride On…….
Just wanted to share a quick story. Some sad news came last week a good friend passed away. Deirdre. Meet D trough this gbook back around 2006 when I started to get into Christy music. Was searching for old cm vinyl and D responded with a post here to say she had the ones I was looking for . We eventually meet up at a gig and a few of us here became very good friends meet regularly at gigs over the years and had many good trips as well . If not for the gbook our paths may not have crossed I collected a lot of cm material over the years but a lot of it came from D reponce on this page .
Heading for gig tonight the Vic run this year has been fantastic
Christy's reply
a lovely reflection upon a lovely Lady…Deirdre always had a refined but very involved presence at the gigs… had the pleasure of meeting her a few times along the road….she has gone on ahead with other Dear 4711ers….they’ll be there waiting for us at the great eternal gig…. wherever that may be
Hello Christy,

The th’s and the y’s stick together.
Or
If you sound like a load of gaggling geese yehv probably cracked it.
The nearest we get to pretty round here is Todmorden, they have a single soft vowel that you don’t find further down the valley.
The gigs have started coming in. I’m so excited!!!

so many different Yorkshire accents encountered….my cousins in Sheffield, the dwile flunkers in Hull, farming neighbours in Causeway Foot, Folk folk in Bradford,Leeds, York,Thirsk, Donny,Rotherham,Mexborough, Keightley,….all reverberating around the memory department of this ancient Kildare brain…
Keep a record of all your early gigs…all details…set list, organizers, venue, audience,fee..
seems unneccesary at the time but 56 years on can make great reading
I wish I’d done it mysel….
You probably heard Christy, Pat Farrell passed away on Saturday. You only mentioned him here recently! The lads are giving it lackery up above! Pat, Red, Jimmy, Declan, and Noel! Happy day’s in Slats and the Meeting Place!
Christy's reply
Sorry to hear about Pat….I always loved his big rich sound..I mainly heard him in The Meeting Place in the 70s/80s…he’d be standing his ground waiting for Jimmy to hand it over to him and then in he’d come and put his own stamp on the number..then Red would sing:
“I had my breakfast in Mississippi
and my dinner in Tipperary Town”
there’d be basins of loose porter flyin around like snuff at a wake and capers to bate the band
thats a fair old five piece you’ve named there…”A Heavenly Blues Band”
Hi Christy
That was some gig on Sunday. It was the perfect set list.
A mix of the old and new. The slow and the fast.
It was our first time in Vicar St.
Are the choir there always that good ?

Christy's reply
Over decades of gigging no audience has ever sung like the Barrowland choir in Glasgow…happy to report that the Vicar Street Choir has surpassed all at recent gigs..its an uplifting experience to hear so many voices sing the songs…Shine On
Hello Christy,
It’s been snowing here this morning. Very pretty as long as you don’t have to venture out.
Here’s something I wandered across today. An article about two ancient dialects, one spoken in Wexford and the other in Fingal. There’s a link towards the bottom of a song being sung in the Wexford one.
I have two videos left from my adventures in Vicar Street. They are both of new, unreleased songs, so I won’t let them get out into the wild unless you say I can. Lovely for learning tunes though.
Back home safely to Todmorden.
Feeling incredibly lucky to have finally got back to Vicar Street hear you again.
Thank you so much for an incredibly emotional night.
We laughed, sang, cried and were so moved by your energy, passion and mastery of the audience.
Hearing Stitch in Time and Ringing the Bell took me down memory lane as I have not heard those particular songs live for a long time.
Thanks for the beautiful song to Lyra, powerful in its simplicity.
Loved Lemon 7’s and that singer/ songwriter is now on our radar. The song even mentions the pier at Bull Island and we had walked to Bull Island on Saturday. Beautiful synchronicity!!!
You have our hearts 💕 💞
