In my post just submitted, in laying emphasis on one word it got omitted…….. after my ref to the Chernobyl disaster the sentence should have read: ‘ …lets not sell out on nuclear power………..’
C, I’ve just been looking at the ‘Library’ and the old videos, jayney we shudda stuffed our mattresses with all the hair we had in those days, I loved you sitting solemnly at a harmonium (!) in the Late Late Studio from 1972. I found another one ‘(Moore’s Memories…’) and I listened to ‘The Sun is Burning’ and the BBC news bulletins of the Chernobyl disaster, great stuff and remember, lets sell out on nuclear power. Mind you wind power ‘aint an answer either – it’s all, well most of it, is a fallacy about wind power.
I have an original cassette tape of ‘The Iron Behind the Velvet’; still some great music on it. Am just now listening to two songs from the Barrowlands gig, ‘No TIme’ and ‘La Quinta Bridada’.
Keep the spirit Irish – from one by now follicly challenged no more than yourself….
In that foreign made documentary that’s like a college lecture theatre where a very young looking Planxty are singing Cunla… Where is it as a matter of interest…?
Christy's reply
If memory serves that venue was Theatre L in UCD….at the ever increasing rate of consumption, it is our usage rather then energy’s source that we need to address…..the poor auld planet is running out of everything…its so plain to see but, collectively, we are in denial…..what a beautiful winter’s day today…its so good to be alive …..that old iron behind the velvet was a fun album to make…we had a band for 2 months me and brother Luka and Noel Hill, Tony Linnane, Gabriel McKeon,Andy Irvine…we played in Castlecomer and Scariff and elsewhere in 1977 and recorded the album in an old studio in Harcourt St …still sounds good sometimes when I happen upon it
Thanks for your reply, Christy. Oh yes, it was clearly to be seen and heard how much the lads and yourself enjoyed playing together. Hope we’ll catch you once more some time with this wonderful band.
See you again when the summer comes, then we’ll celebrate a special anniversary: 30 years Christy Moore!
Have a great night at Vicar St, wish I could be there. Best of luck, Traudel
Great to read the setlists from Galway , wish I was there to hear Spancilhill and many more … I watched a Chet Atkins concert on RTE about 1987 I think and one song from it stuck in my mind , located it on YouTube finally … I Still Can’t Say Goodbye . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVSHdwWzLo4

It is a long long time since i came this way, so let me say, all the best for 2013 to you, Declan and all your team. I get a lot of pleasure out of your music.
May I also tell you that on Youtube there is a video of yourself and Jimmy Maccarthy singing Bright Blue Rose. I have played this time and time again, I think it is a beautiful composition and with Declan on the slide, fantastic. What a talent Jimmy is . I am glad I have discovered him at last. Many thanks…. Derek.
Christy's reply

Just watching ‘Come all you Dreamers’ again on the Box. Had forgotten how fantastic a song ‘Rory is Gone’ is………….. especially with the ‘Noisy’ Guitar. Any chance it would come out of the box again? ………………..Maybe on the 15th in the Big Hall ???
Ride on.

anything can happen these days…Grand Canama Gosh here we come
Dear Christy,
We returned home safe and well, but sad about leaving the Emerald Isle where we had such a glorious time … Full moon in the last days of the old year, refreshing walks in beautiful scenery dressed up in wintry colours, the rough sea, glowing rainbows above Bere Island … meeting up with lovely people.
What a great start of the new year we enjoyed with the January Man! Thank you so much for two pure magic nights at the Ardilaun/Galway. Loved to hear my beloved Gortatagort, superb Spancilhill even twice, songs I haven’t heard for a long time like All for the Roses, Raggle Taggle Gypsy, If I get an Encore, As I roved out … and Sullivans John for the first time ever. Didn’t expect you’d really sing Hurt, but you did, a very special Dankeschön for that! We never have had the opportunity to see you playing with Band until now – and it was gorgeous! Also many thanks to Mairtin, Cathal, Seamie and Jimmy, we liked their rhythmical accompaniment very much. At the second gig I was wishing I could stop time and this night would never end. Won’t forget to thank your crew and hotel staff for their welcome and a very comfortable stay.
All the best for 2013 and MILE MAITH AGAT, Traudel

such a room full of listeners as we had in Salthill…its 41 years since my first gig in Salthill back in a different world….only 2 songs have survived in the 2013 set…Cliffs and Raggle…lovely to be singing them again within a Trad(ish) setting….When I heard this band playing some time back( I think I may have written about it in the review section) I knew I wanted to play with them…Thanks to their willingness and the efforts of Paddy Doherty and their agent Tracy Crawford it has all come together and all 5 of us are enjoying the experience…thank you for your encouraging feedback and support…
I see Mike Harding has decided to go it alone and now streams his own show every Sunday at 5.00 pm. Older shows will be available as podcasts. I guess we would all like to support him – and enjoy the music so hope you don’t mind me posting the link here?
Great to see him reacting so positively to his treatment by the BBC.
Christy's reply
Mike Harding was a Folk Music man long before the BBC noticed him and he will still be a Folk Music man long after they shafted him….he gave me, and many others, gigs songs food and accomodation at a time when we needed nourishment
Difficult to resist the TG4 lineup tonight starting at 5pm with “Come all you Dreamers” followed by Luke Kelly, Andy Irvine and a documentary on Paddy O’Connell, the fella who saved FC Barcelona from extinction.

Hi… Its a wonder the Rebels can’t figure out how to share from Youtube,,, http://youtu.be/rhllhvfp46I Mossy Scanlan from Corca Dhuibhne, now resident in OZ does a great version of this too,,, Ciarrai Abu ! H
Hello Christy,
When I was a young boy growing up in the 60s listening to The Dubliners,The Clancys, Wolfe Tones etc..I loved the songs, the stories, the poems and how they made me feel when I listened to the music.Thankfully that magic has never left me to this day…
When I was about 14 in the late 60s I heard a song called “Sammys Bar” sung by Al O Donnell..This stuck me as a kind of ballad that Luke Kelly would be singing so I was immediately hooked.. Al is a wonderful singer, gifted guitar and banjo player and like yourself Christy a collector and singer of great songs.. He released two albums in the early 70s which I still listen to regularly, AOD 1and2..A lot of his songs are on Youtube and are well worth checking out if you love great story ballads…Just wondering Christy if your paths have ever crossed as some of the songs have… RyanL

did manys the gig with Al in the late 60s…we played the Coffee Kitchen for Betty McDermot, The Auld Triangle for Gerry O;Grady
Delighted to catch ye on the box before the ferry in the morn fella, Gaybo’s never learned his way with words it seems, think his manners are awkwardly in the right place though… ; ) Here’s to a busy two thirteen…
Christy's reply
since I first met him in 1972, Gay Byrne has been a great supporter of countless Irish artists…he has always listened carefully and has been critical betimes…one night on The Late Late I finished a song and he said “what in the name of God was that all about “…an honest response…hope you have a good 2013 and that your music blossoms
Just looked up “sammed up” an expression my Dad used to use (to clear up after work). I found you’re Dalesmans litany which I thought was the best verse I have read in many years. Many thanks….Roger

I have been singing that song since 1968 and never knew what that reference meant..the only time I sang it in 2012 was at a lovely gig in Leeds Town Hall…first heard it in Bradshaw,Halifax from Alastair Cameron and also from Dennis Sabey. who gave it me…later heard Dave Burland sing it in Barnsley
