I ‘ve always enjoyed Linda Ronstadt s singing and was vaguely aware of her versatility….but am blown away and full of admiration having stumbled on a superb doc on BBC iplayer…Linda Ronstadt – the sound of my voice
Dylan once wrote that Spanish is the loving tongue… Ronstadt proves it, especially in the poignant finish. Excellent contributions by numerous famous collaborators whose admiration is genuine. Well worth a watch if the film can be found…
If I chance for to go to the market at Croom,
With my cock in my hand and my pipes in full tune,
I’m welcomed at once and brought up to a room,
Where Bacchus is sporting with Venus.
My parents had reared me to shake and to mow,
To plough and to harrow, to reap and to sow.
But my heart being airy to drop it so low,
I set out on high speculation!
We had a neighbor used to say
“Ta se in am na pratai a chur sios
nuair is feidir leat sui do thoin lom ar an tallamh “
Which Pop translated as
“When you see Joe sowing
It’s time to start growing”
Irish wasn’t Pops strongest suit ach sin sceal eile.

and sows his seed with love ”
Morning Christy,
Another lovely return to the Midlands last night. A really attentive audience soaking it all in…..all delivered with aplomb by your good self.
The half Moon stage takes you into the audience….well done to all the crew. I was once at a Tina Turner Show in the Point where they sent her out into the middle of the audience on a crane……….she was right over our heads !!!!!!. “Just saying like”; I’m sure Johnny and the boys would be up to the challenge.
Best Regards,
Patsy

we tried that once Patsy but the outcome was not as acceptable as Tina’s flight in the Point….I was playing a 5 pole Marquee gig at the Ballymagash Carnival…the local committee had not factored in a stage and. me being such a visual act, something had to be done… we contacted “O’Brien-Will -Shift-It” who rented us a hoist for four hours ( he gave us a good rate) at 5 to 9 I was strapped in and ready to rise…the lad workin the hoist was just back from a wedding and was a bit worse for the wear..he miscalculated the height of the tent and my chosen playing position…he drove me out thru the roof of the marquee and left me dangling there as he tried to find reverse….never one to give in ,I started off my usual gig ..the crowd hearing me adout decamped out into the paddock where they sat among the cow slips and daisies…Johnny had a torch on me and I delivered quite a reasonable set under the circumstance….one local folk afficionado ( Festy O Hooricán) wrote a letter to the Silage Pit Journal claiming it was the most exciting gig he had ever (contd P94)

Christy, the mention of World Book Day brings back happy memories of my own children from many years ago. I fondly recall their mother desparatly trying to cobble together costumes from things we already had in the house and the children saying ‘we don’t care if you do have to make something from scratch, were not going to school dressed as a naughty nurse and a french maid’, happy days.

I’m back reading my favourite book ( for the third time )
“Autobiography of a SUPER TRAMP” was written by G.H.Davies.it was first published in 1907 by Digit Books.Mine is a paperback 2nd edition which cost 3/6 back in 1920.Its ragged and worn (like myself) and has a preface by G.B.Shaw. I’ve had it for 50 years now.
Maidín mhaith a Chriostóir!
World Book Day is upon us, which is why I’m in my classroom dressed as Mary Poppins. Míceál’s school is dressing up tomorrow. Guess who he’s going as?!
Hint – His costume consists of a black t-shirt, black bottoms, his guitar and the Christy Moore Songbook…!
He’s buzzing to be getting back to you tonight. When I asked him what he’d like to hear he asked for ‘All I Remember’ so if it’s in your setlist well and good. If not, he’ll be happy with anything!
Really looking forward to seeing you tonight. The Wicklow Boy is a favourite of my own and anytime I’ve heard you sing it live, it’s brought goosebumps.

Hello Christy,
Some glorious flute playing this morning. https://youtu.be/F9oBDSf9gR4
The balance maybe needs a bit of help, but at least it wasn’t the other way round.

Its always a pleasure to hear my nephew Conor Byrne play the Concert Flute…he is among the finest players and I’d love to hear more of his music…I dont recall when or where this was recorded…thanks for sharing…I sent it on to him
Well I bet you’re all pretty chuffed now that the latest UK PM has announced he’s fixed BREXIT for Northern Ireland – what a relief!
We are so lucky to have such intelligent, caring, selfless pollies to improve our lives.

I must remember to get the spuds in this week…good to have them in before Paddy’s day
From Stillwater Minnesota. 6 foot snowbanks. Dark. Snowing again. Even the dog doesn’t want to go out. Listening to Smoke and Strong Whiskey. Transported to the Burren on a sunny day. Bought that CD – yes a CD – in Galway on my honeymoon in ‘92. Thanks for that – the CD not my honeymoon – and all the other wonderful music you’ve given me.

SB is rightly celebrated for her social realism work…brilliantly documenting areas like Salford (her home patch)as it moved from slums to high rise…but by hitting the menu button on the website other worlds emerge…hopefully, worth a few minutes trawling for companeros here…
I ‘ve enjoyed Baker s street scenes for a long time, but also seeing teddy boys and punks raised a smile… In any arts genre, it’s always good to find more depths…this exceptional woman sure had a sharp eye and camera lens.
Well Christy!
I was talking to our mutual friend Graham Merrigan the other day after hearing you on the Two Norries podcast, and I was saying how I’d love to talk to you for a podcast I have for the Irish abroad called The Global Gael.
It would be fascinating to hear about your time outside of Ireland, from when you first left in the 60s to play in folk clubs in England and Scotland, and then touring the world and meeting the Irish abroad.
It would also be great to talk to you about songs like “Missing You” and “City Of Chicago”, which had a profound effect on many of us and led us to act to make sure no-one falls through the cracks in our community.
I was supposed to come see you with Mero in Vicar Street in January but an accident on the motorway leading to the airport in Stockholm caused us to miss our flight.
Let me know if you might be interested in having a chat – it would be a lovely gift for the Irish around the world if we could get it out around St. Patrick’s Day, when many will be missing home!
All love and light to you,
Phil

After reading some of that gentle art book I don’t think I can recommend it. It seems to be full of rules..
Hello Christy,
Wishing you a good day today wandering among the canvases.
Have you seen this book

There’s one called the gentle art of mindful singing too.
It’s not by you.

Hello
We are travelling to Ireland May7th and we were not able to confirm this until two weeks ago.
We would love to see Christy in concert but the only dates suitable during our stay are May 11th and May 19th but both shows are showing sold out😫
Are there any other tickets available through other means before entering the concerts those nights that you may be aware of?
We love your music! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Regards
Ursula Maloney
