“Patrick was a gentle man
he came from dacent people
he built a church in Dublin Town
and on it put a steeple
His Father was a Gallagher, His Mother was a Grady
his Aunt was an O’Shaughnessy and his Uncle Mister Brady
One Hundred Thousand reptiles blue
he charmed with sweet discourses
and dined on them in Killaloe
with soups and second courses
where the blind worms crawling in the grass
disgusted all the Nation
down to Hell with a Holy Spell
he changed their situation”
Many here will be familiar with David Rooney s amazing art, via the cover for Flying into Mystery and stage backdrops.
Also, David releases art and music as Echotal…
Now available on YouTube is a harrowing, wonderfully evocative film called Famine…awesome in power, by Echotal with Jo Quail
I’ve watched it a few times and each time the impact increases…the man is truly gifted.
Dave

I agree with you Dave..

Hope you’re well Christy, and enjoying being back in full flow with the concerts! Was listening to you out a walk the other day, and was shocked to discover that it’s now five years since you last graced the Barrowland Ballroom; do you have any plans to rectify? We miss you!

Hello Christy,
Thanks to Dave for posting about the Irish Film thing in London. Your posts ring true. Some new posters here. It’s always interesting for old hands to read the thoughts and requests of new arrivals.

Hi Christy, Hope your gigs are going with great gust and power.
I love to listen to Changes when I feel sad or lonely but do you know this Dorset folk song that never fails to warm the cockles of my heart: Where The Lilac Grows? Do you know who wrote it?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72clc73HnIk
I would love to hear you sing it live at the end of one of your recorded performances. Any chance?
Big hugs to you and long may you shine on forever!
Thanks big guy.

Thanks for sharing Francis..best wishes to yonder Malvern `Hills
Hi Christy, I have seen you gig many times – including the first Lisdoon festival in 1978, the Chariot Inn in 1979, the Point several times, the Concert Hall, the Pavilion. I’d be very grateful if you would consider singing “Barrowland” this Saturday in the Concert Hall. It is a song that moves me deeply.
[I sang it myself at a recent song circle where you were present and chimed in. That’s a memory I will take with me to the other world.]
Christy's reply
“Come all you Dreamers”
you made my night at An Goilín when you sang that song
Hello Christy,
I’ve been thinking about what you said about the Morecambe Bay song. It’s a strange thing that happened and I’m struggling to understand why the Director had a live artist on the show, when what they really seemed to want was a record player.
I guess it’s difficult, trying to balance career and artistic integrity. I think you’ve been very consistent in your approach, always going for integrity, and I admire you for that. One regret is only one regret.
I’m working hard on the child ballad. Trying to get my head round the shape of the tune I’ve chosen. It has 4 different sections (I think…) and the last thing I want to create is a long, boring dirge. It certainly isn’t that. On the other hand, I need to do a really good job because its likely that if it gets noticed it will be shot down in flames by the folk police. I wouldn’t want to be pilloried for anything less than my best work… 😃
Hi Christy. I hope you are well. My mother Jo has been a life long fan of yours and regularly attends your concerts. She has advanced dementia and has recently moved into a nursing home and it struggling to adjust. It’s her birthday next Thursday and we are going to have a party for her. She would love a tune or two if you had the time and if not a signed birthday card would be greatly appreciated.
Best wishes
Power to the people after going 2 months without a reply from Enterprise I get a tweet they want me to DM them, the power of Christy. I want to thank anyone that tried to help me, within minutes of my post on guestbook I had a reply. Always remember a wrong against one is a wrong against all- God Bless All

Good news, hope your problem is sorted…lots of bad stories about car hiring these times….lotsa bad stories about lotsa stuff…
but there is still some good stuff too..we dont hear often, about the good stuff
On 1/11 I attended the National Treasure show of Christy Moore and 1/13 I attended DropKick Murphy in Belfast for the best birthday ever. Unfortunately the Ireland of A Thousand Welcomes was ruined by Enterprise Rent a Car. They billed me damage for incorrect fuel when I picked up the car full and drove it 12kl. I hade DW and Excess which I always get but was billed $1800. On doing research there are numerous claims of scam billing of this particular airport location. If anyone knows how to report fraudulent billing to a Consumer Protection Agency please let me know. I’ve emailed Enterprise repeatedly since there last contact on 1/16 but haven’t even gotten the courtesy of a reply. Christy your the best, answering me on the day after on guestbook and on my email about your dedication of Motherland at the show. The number of the rental car location is (01) 844 5848 and they’re email Customerservice@enterprise.com if anyone would like to voice their support for this Mad Dog American McGlinchey I’d appreciate it, ironically this letter I received through email on 1/13 ( my birthday) was from a UK address maybe that explains the Parcel of Rogues that are trying to rip off tourists. Any employee that wants to come forward to reveal this corrupt policy can email me
Hello Christy,
Just watching the good news unfold about Gary Lineker’s return as Match of the Day presenter.
I’m so glad you were right when you said
“I think there may well be a positive outcome to the BBC/Linacre debacle…the vast majority of people might now realise that the BBC is far from what it paints itself to be…in blind subordination to their Tory Cronies they have let the cat out of they bag…may they be seen for what they really are..may they pay the proper price….”
I hope the majority of people will help keep common sense and fair mindedness so common.

all my life I’ve listened and watched the BBC….sang frequently too, was happy to get the opportunity….but last weekend was a wake up call….lots of black crows came to roost…been thinking about Sir Saville and The Beeb,,about Boris and The Beeb, about Tim Davie & Boris & The Beeb
a slight aside..a few years back I was invited to sing a song on the Andrew Marr Sunday Morning show… very happy to do so I arrived for rehearsal..I played Kevin Fleetwood’s
“Morecambe Bay” in rehearsal..shortly before it went on air the Director informed me that they had a problem with the song..(it describes the tragic drowning of 24 cockle pickers in Morecambe Bay)….regretfully I sang something else when I should have made a stand or walked out….it was a bad decision….after the show Andrew Marr came to the dressing room and thanked me for coming and expressed regret at what had gone down…
but there were good experiences too….Many gigs on the Beeb starting with Country Meets Folk in 1967, my first time to broadcast….later came sessions with John Peel,Ned Sherrin, Janice Long, Johnny Walker,Mike Harding,Terry Wogan,Gloria Hunniford,Michael Parkinson,Cerys Matthews,Steve Wright, Nicky Cambell,Bob Harris plus many regional hosts who got us into to play and yard… Ray Gravell, Archie Fisher, (contd p94)
Hi Christy,
Reading Ruairi McKiernan’s Hitching for Hope.
Came across this little gem
“A grandparent is telling their grandchild that there are two wolves fighting for control of our minds.
One is filled with fear, envy, greed, anger and hate.
The other is loving,kind,humble,peace-loving and generous.
The grandchild becomes worried and wants to know which wolf is going to win. The grandparent says,
“The one that will win is the one that you feed”
Enjoy the rugby and the gig next weekend.

Dear Christy,
I saw you in Mullingar as a big surprise for me. It s a very nice story….now about 35 years knowing you and your music. So I d like to send you a letter by normal…is there any adress for me? Couldn t find anything on the website.
thanks and best wisches

Hello Christy and All,
So Kildare got their One in a Row! Looking at the state of England yesterday, it could be a while before we do the same.
And then there’s the rugby…
George Bernard Shaw once wrote to Winston Churchill, “I enclose two tickets to my opening night. Bring a friend, if you have one.”
I’ve been humming my way round lemon sevens for a while. Put the words to it for the first time yesterday. Wow! It a powerful thing to sing. I was buzzing!
Facebook puts memories up sometimes. Today’s was from 5 years ago. Then I had a desk and chair, far too much computer equipment and an office full of people in Halifax.
Now I have a table and chair in my conservatory, surrounded by green, flowers and trees, next to my music room. I have a laptop to work on and my colleagues work wherever they want because Calderdale Council has sold most of its buildings.
It feels so much better now. More human.
