Yesterday, I visited a favourite gallery… http://www.contemporarysix.co.uk to see a small, brilliantly diverse selection of modern ish works.
If you click on the artists listed, there s good info… Billy Childish has 3 paintings in the show, nicely contrasting, showing his range…
The emotion in The Crying Soldier stopped me in my tracks…One of the last pictures I saw,so fresh in mind walking to the tram…and not long before I recalled Wally Page s words of Sergeants and their men…
Have a good day

Hello Christy,
Your mention of Arty McGlynn at the fiddle festival just made my morning. https://youtu.be/9dX3HvRHHXI
That and, Dave using the word “bloke” a fine sold word for a man.
I was once in the woollen mill at Glencolmcille. The woman in there asked Steve what size he, was. Large, he said. Ah, still room for improvement she said. Anyway, I put the jumper in the, washing machine by mistake with a load of other things. . It’s now a very fine cat bed. I had to buy Steve another one.

Hi Christy,
Just home and still buzzing after the NCH. You were on fire tonight, thank you. Fantastic set list.
As a Midlands Man, it was an honour and a privilege to hear your rendition of Ann Lovett tonight. Its amazing after all these years how easily the memories come flooding back through the words of a song.
Long may it continue, as the music keeps our spirits high.
Best regards
Patsy

just after putting the time forward Patsy which means an earlier start in the morning..I wish they’d stop messing around with the feckin clocks..
You are a legend Christy. Fabulous gig as always and so nice to be in real world with you again after all the lockdown sessions and the pandemic concert at NCH, it was great to be in same room as ye so ye could hear the our lovely singing. Told Val to tell you that you were brillo. Thank you xx
You’re dead right Ed, its 1976. Paul Brady was playing with Andy irvine then and he was also getting some great tv time from UTV, I think. Not sure if this was his own slot or a piece on Len Graham’s great programme “As I Roved Out” Arty was just starting out. Christy! You might have better recollection of this?

I love it to witness ‘Las Vegas’ and ‘Doolin’ mentioned, they came from Nevada to see you gigging. Wont the Irish be represented in Las Vegas later on this year.
That You Tube clip uploaded only in 2007, I maintain the clip is older than that, previously shown on TV but only uploaded in 2007.
Gippmeister: that clip, Arty and Paul, it’s way older, the poster has ‘2007’, I think the guy dated it incorrectly. It’s more the 1990s or 1980s…… but who am to ‘dispute’?

Always great to see Arty McGlynn mentioned in dispatches…his ability to fret with all left hand fingers gets me every time I see it.
Through the family connection of his wife,Nollaig Casey, her sister, Maire Ni Chathasaigh and her partner, Chris Newman, there are some great ensemble gatherings…worth a YouTube hunt for a Cork festival gig on 12/10/13 with ace playing by all four on Newman’s tune – Ginny s Waltz…
The Casey family (and above named blokes) feature in a great TG4 doc… Nollaig and Maire also have a terrific album with a cracking good title – Sibling Revelry !
Enjoy tonight s gig, followed by Summer Time…(cue for a song.)

I enjoyed recording the “Ordinary Man” album with Arty…what a great player…Arty was multi faceted…he played with Showbands, Trad Bands and was Van’s Band leader for a good few years…more then that, Arty was a solid man, a good campanion and great craic..see his intro on You Tube when he played the Fiddle Fair in Baltimore (cork) with Cathal Hayden
Nollaig Casey was in Planxty (mark 3) when we recorded the “Words& Music” album in 1982… a beautiful player with Classical ,Traditional and Modern Music all at her fingertips…She also featured on our “Timedance” recording alongside Bill Whelan when Planxty were a 6 piece…
It blew me away. I felt like I feel when I watch Liam Og O’Flynn, watching those hands and his stillness.
It’s like looking at air or water.
The music passes straight through untouched.
Dear Christy – We could not have enjoyed your show any more in Naas, at Killashee on March 8! Just brilliant! Thanks so much for a wonderful night. We were the loud singers in the 2nd row shouting “up the banner” & asking you for the old classic Spancill Hill at the end. Your set was incredible and you definitely get better every year. It was such a treat for my sister & I, and our hubbies, to meet and travel from Las Vegas, & the Scilly Isles, to Ballynacally, Clare, and then to see you in Kildare! We had this planned a a Christmas gift and what better gift. (We now live in Las Vegas, and the Scilly Isles, UK, and our father lives in Ennis, which is our home). We look forward to hopefully seeing you in Clare later this year, or perhaps another beautiful location. I see there are still some tickets available in Kilkenny & Mayo. I would drive forever to hear you again. Your music touches the soul like no other and brings all people together, and for this we are very grateful. Thank you. Siobain.

I see you’ve been announced to play the Doolin Folk Fest in June. Brilliant news I’m very excited. Is this the first time you’ve played the west of Clare since the Lisdoonvarna days? Are you looking forward to coming back?
Hope all is well with you was meant to be in NCH hall for the gig this weekend but had surgery this weekend so unable, Doolin will make up for it!

hope you get the stitches out in time for Doolin

And this tune’s driving me nuts. I need to get the thing on the piano and work it out. You can see the shape of a tune clearly when it’s laid out on the oiano https://youtu.be/Wxlyi-jP0t8
Maybe I’ll get chance this weekend. So much music. I’m up to my neck in Robin Hood.
