Molly appeared here right after Sarah.
It’s good. William and Molly, the faithful woman of the lea, with her man.
Bless the wind that shakes the barley,
Curse the spade and curse the plough.
I’ve counted years and weeks and days,
And I wish to God I was with you now.
Fare thee well my black haired diamond,
Fare thee well my own Aisling.
At night fond dreams of you still haunt me,
Far across the grey north sea.
Their life was very different, and thank goodness for it.
Here’s to hoping Christy! Would be a fantastic lift for the county. We’re the wrong side of the draw I think and few tough games ahead. We’ll have to knuckle down.
No worries I didn’t take it as a criticism at all… I was passing comment on my skills. There’s nothing worse. The ipad is as bad as the inconsiderate scoundrel holding.
I’ve been known for shooting from the hip on the off occasion.
The rain was lashing – the sun was rising,
The wind was whipping through the trees.

A revisit would be welcomed! We met Cathal in Dublin airport coming back from the last gig in the Barrowlands, a much appreciated quick photo before he hit the road…
I saw he’s due to play at the Fleadh this year, we may take a trip, I’ve never been.

Hello Christy,
I’m glad you explained the lack of travelling. So many people wanting to listen on the island. It’s put a worry to rest, and we can travel to see you. I love my trips to Ireland. Not keen on the boat or plane, but it’s worth braving the waves for such riches.
That Rock thing is a hot bit of kit. Thanks to Aisling for posting it. And I love Adam’s pictures. There’s a great one with a very clear view of the talons on your right hand. Built in picks!

A musical masterpiece Christy
Great to meet up with a group of 4711rs

Thanks again Christy

Thank you for another amazing gig tonight. Powerful performance with great energy tonight – whatever that tablet Johnny gives you it must be something else lol. Audience seemed to gel perfectly tonight too. Been a tough few years with covid and whatever but thankfully we had the music to get us through. Been a wonderful week and thank you so much for all these special nights. That Lyra song is something else and loving Lemon 7s too (the song that is). Safe home Christy, thanks to you and all the crew. Hopefully it’s not do long until the next one.
Christy,
Had the good fortune to see you for the first time on Wednesday night in the Forum. The aul eyes were wet a couple of times (I’m a hoor for the ballads). Thank you for coming to Derry it was a brilliant night. I’ve booked to see you again in Castlebar in October, roll on!
Fair fuckin play to ye horse!

Christy's reply
Fair enough Eamonn…we’ll be seeing you in Castlebar…..The Traveller’s Friend is a great venue…back again to the Red & Green on The Plain’s of Sweet Mayo….I hope to parachute down to Barr na Cúige and hitch a ride on into Barcastle
You got the name right..I’d no idea that “The Rock” was up on the tube….I’d hoped to get a decent version of Cathal Hayden’s set properly recorded…this phone version only bears a slight resemblance to what might have been….now that you’ve pointed up this track again…..maybe it should be re-visited !…..
I loved playing with Cathal…he featured in both “The Trad Outfit” and “The Companeros”. A hard working and dedicated Troubadour of the Road, a great collaborator, the best of good company, a carrier of all thats good in the Tradition of his Native County Tyrone….no matter where we gigged of a Saturday night, Cathal would be off rapid in the Honda, anxious to get home to Hayden’s of The Rock “for the last one “
Christy,
I stumbled on to”the Rock” today… If that’s not a Friday Kickstarter I’m not sure what is!!! Sure you’d have to be shouting YEOOOWWW! at the screen at the top of your lungs.
Great reports from the recent gigs Christy ,it sounds like your ‘never ending tour’ is going from strength to strength. Unfortunatly. I am currently laid up with a torn calf muscle after hitting the dance floor to Last Boat To Cairo by Maddness, whilst on holiday, so a word or warning to any fellow 4711ers.over the age of 65. You dont have to act your age but if you are thinking of getting up for a bit of a jig at any future Christy concerts or dancing to anything more strenuous than the Hokey Cokey then consider a few warm up or stretching exercises first or you too like me could end up in A&E .

Great to see that you visited Jenni in Little Acorns. She provides a wonderful service for the city and hopefully her new premises will be a great success for her. Like the independent record shops these are vital to emerging and “non mainstream” artists. The large companies limit the choice we have of listening and reading and I guess that is similar to the RTE & BBC situation soon. Artists like yourself are so important too – we need to be informed of issues that the mainstream don’t tell us about. What we choose to do after that is fair enough but awareness is the most important thing. I hope Davey had the kettle on for you. It’s great to have you in town – you have been a good friend to Derry throughout many years of strife. Hopefully you are now sharing in our “bright, brand new day”. It’s not perfect but we are getting there. looking forward to another great gig tonight.

Dear Christy,
The postcards often say ‘wish you were here’ but today it’s a postcard from each of myself, dagrab and many other long haul listeners…..’wish we were there’.
Have a great gig in Free Derry and maybe take a trip in to see Lee at Cool Discs in Derry. He has a great selection of vinyl and cd, am sure Declan McLaughlin or someone like that will be playing live in the shop, in advance of Record Store Day tomorrow.
Maybe a glass in Peadar O’Donnell’s after shopping for music or even just a nice cup of strong black tea.
Whatever you get up to enjoy it, we miss your live sets.
Rory…and no doubt dagrab…
Christy's reply
Dear Rory, Dagrab and all Foreign Correspondants,
we miss our overseas gallivanting, ferries to far flung corners, slipping into Tasmania, Randall’s Island, Bergen and Basle, roaring around Paris and Rome, sailing into Hamburg, Roscoff, Le Havre, the chopper from JFK to Manhattan, the squad car from Jericho to Bury, hitching from Carlisle to Ashington…the Barrowland Choir, The Bridgewater orchestra, nuclear Thurso,,Kentish Town Frolics,Heysham nick,Bruce Scott in The Phil, Ewan & Peggy & The Critics,The Chesire cat in Congleton…..these days our wings and flippers have been clipped…for a variety of reasons ….advancing age, receding hairlines, belt overhangs, brexit, trumpfuck, borisbollox, faragepricks (tbc p94)…..but most of all the popularity of ballads here in Bognia now appears ( in my experience) to exceed all previous revivals…. but I still dreams of The Muskhalle in Kaiserslautern, Jasper Farrells in Sausalito, Aotea in Auckland, St Vincents in Wooloomaloo,
any memories of the uniformed (uninformed) stage doorman in the Rile Albert Hall, the ignorant (strictly unionized) stage hands at Carnegie Hall are totally obliterated by the great hospitality and friendship encountered in 5.000 venues the world over where good people leaned over backwards to facilitate our wee caravan of song….I tip my hat to each and every one…

Looking forward to the second Derry gig tomorrow night. Will be a bit of sadness in Derry as the BBC has taken the knife to much of the output of our local Radio Foyle – our award winning local breakfast news show is being severely cut and replaced by the Belfast based radio ulster news and tomorrow will be the last broadcast of the full local news show . The value of our local news was never more clearly shown than in the tragic story of Lyra. Maybe if it fits tomorrow you could dedicate Lyra to our local journalists to thank them for bringing us the stories that matter over the years. They will be missed.

Oh, well that makes much more sense. She kept the half ring in a very safe place because it was so precious to her. I’m sorry, I haven’t sung this song so I haven’t got into her shoes properly.
When I inherited some jewellery from my mother last year, I’d watched her wearing it all my life. I keep it in a very safe place too.
So when he came back and she didn’t recognise him till she saw his half of the ring she was upset because she thought she should have recognised him straight away. I guess they put the kettle on after that.
She does need a name, doesn’t she. Maybe Sarah?
