I hope you’re on the mend with the ole voice, many years on the road I hope this isn’t your gentle way of telling us you’re hanging up the tools. Catherine tends to think you’re the better looking on the photo here http://i46.tinypic.com/2hdd1dy.jpg, I’d have to agree.
I’ve been watching the uncovered DVD over the past few weeks and always reply the ‘biko drum’ how did you come across it?
Ride On…..
Christy's reply
Biko Drum was written by Wally Page..I heard him sing it one night in The Meeting Place circa 1982..its such a great song I simply had to have a go on it…30 years on I’m still knocking it out …myself and Wally are embroidering a few songs at the moment..the journey continues to unfold.. still singing “the renegades song”
Glad to hear you’re on the rebound, Christy. Rarely does a day go by without me thinking of you and Declan and friends in Ireland. I was out touching a dozen different guitars this week, looking for one that feels full of songs. Even plucked on a claw-hammer style banjo, a Persian tar, and one of those metal Miss National resonator-type guitars some blues players use. Do you still do that, drop by the shop and try out some instruments, looking for one that feels like it was made for your own hands and ears? There were two that charmed me. The songs are coming along, slower than before, but their roots are deeper and they take longer pulling out. The magic of the language still beckons and the chords must be found. Get yourself sturdy and strong now. The songs are waiting. DL
Christy's reply
Declan is the man for that..Im hopeless at trying out anything in shops…I need to bring a Guitar home and try it out for a few days….Im still playing the same guitars on stage but both Declan and I are also playing Maton Guitars a lot now..beautifully built in Australia with the very best of timbers..I play one at home every day, like playing a Taylor…hope all is well with you…thanks for all the lovely music and visuals on 4711ers.org started watching the recent “Lennie” and will finish it tonight…Declan and I still chasing the songs..he’s doing some solo gigs too and I have started doing a few gigs with some great Traditional Musicians. I’m enjoying this very much…hope you are in good space and that we meet up again along the way…
Did you hear Wilco Johnson on Radio 4’s Front Row last night talking about touring and his terminal cancer ? One of the most uplifting and moving radio interviews i have ever heard .If you did not catch it it is on the BBc I player .

How are you Christy, i hope you’re well.
You played a gig in my hometown, Sunderland, at the Empire theatre in the 90’s, you said it had been 20 years since you last played there and you wouldn’t leave it so long the next time, here we are and another 20 years has passed.
I
We miss you Christy.
Over the years i’ve seen lots of the “big” named bands in various arenas but none of them compare to the atmosphere at that gig, everyone was there simply for the love of music , the people were there to sing with you, not at you or trying to sing for you, and together we were all wonderful.
You weren’t trying to sing at us like so many people think a singer needs to and we weren’t trying to sing back in some cliche, we all enjoyed and played a part in making the music together with you at the helm as our conductor.
If you’re feeling well and you get a gap in your schedule could you at least consider it.
All the best and i mean it with all my heart.

How are you doing?? Is your voice better??
The magpies are still in the tree I see them bringing twigs to build a nest.
Today a hawk tried to come in but the magpies bullied him out…
CS (8)is improving …he got the stitches removed today but no dancing yet.
hes doing much better….my Concertina is broken
this is so frustrating for me,,,,Noel Hill is fixing it,,,
When/Why did you decide to play the song Hurt by Trent Reznor ..Nine Inch Nails??
Where did you first meet declan?
RS (13)
Christy's reply
Doing good thanks RS(13)..back singing the last 5 days, the voice is getting back but I have not given it full throttle yet..very hard to do that in the workroom…the CS (8) to hold steady for a while and make sure everything is well healed before he starts galloping around …thats terrible about your Concertina, did a mouse or a goat do the damage…them feckin goats would ate a 12 row piano accordeon ..one mouse could do horrid damage to a concertina in one sitting..you could not have a better man then Noel Hill fixing it for you..what a great player he is..I toured with him in two different bands in the 70s and we made some albums together as well..saw him playing on RTE tonight with Tony McMahon..they made great music together..they were playing for a Clare set on a film made 20 years ago..mighty stuff..give him my regards….Hurt is simply a great song to sing…the lyric creates powerful pictures and very specific scenes are created in my mind each time I sing it…I did not hear the original version until recently….the original version would not have caught my attention but the Johnny Cash’s version struck a chord with me and him being a Kildare man…I first encountered Declan in 1972 in London..(he was the lead guitar player with and Irish band called Horslips who were very popular backin then).. 8 years later we were both in a band called Moving Hearts….we hooked up againn for the “Ride On ” album in 1985….this leg of our journey began in 2001 when we formed the Band that still runs today..it was a 3 piece with Donal Lunny until 2005 and since then a duo….I think that answers everything…PS I love seeing Hawks but cant stand Magpies
