That was a right troupe of Rapscallions gathered last night…and yourselves there in the middle of it…ye feckin-well drove me up, up, up and over the bar…the way ye embraced:
“The Banks! The Banks! The Beautiful Banks!
The Banks of The River Lee
Saturday Night,We’re backed in tight
All together in The Big Marquee”
The silence in the tent for “Lemon Sevens” (Briany Brannigan’s) and for “Lyra McKee” (James Cramer’s)…..the welcome ye gave to “Snowflakes” (Martin Leahy’s)….it was uplifting to experience such generous listening from 4,000 songsters of a Saturday night…
Let me compliment and praise the Aiken Family….The Cork Marquee has grown and established itself as a unique feature in our gigging calendar….Peter Aiken has grown this idea from scratch and his team (of hundreds) go to great lengths every year to make it such a joyful experience for listeners and players alike…
“The Lonely Woods of Upton, The Boys of Fairhill,
The Piper of Crossbarry, I hear him still,
I see the Blood and Bandage, I hear The Rebel Sing,
I’m gonna kiss that Blarney Stone when the Bells of Shandon Ring”
That’s some guestlist. Just omitting some members of the Diplomatic Corps.

10 mins to kickoff..the vibe out in The Marquee is leppin…just heard we got some serious VIPs in tonight…My brother Andy ( The Wolf) is in with Johnny Spillane…the TWO Norries are here , also, Corks Number One Citizen, Don O’Leary of the Cork life Centre, my nephew Niall Rynne is in with his Family…theres a mini van of plain cloths Sisters home from Foreign Missions, they’re lorrying into Beamish at the bar and causing terrible trouble ….Leo is here with Simon and a number of Bilderberg honchos…I have them up on the back bleachers surrouded by punks and a chapter of easy riders in from Dunmanway ( Leo thinks Kylie Minogue is on tonight)..Tony is here but Saoirse is busy with the new babby…Donnaca O’Callaghan and Peter O’Mahoney are in the front row, god love any poor cratur sitting behind them…Jimmy Barry is gone to the dogs but I’ll catch him later in the Opera House….the Dunkettle is in chaos but the Lee still flows gently towards the ocean…
“Settle”, is there a famous railway line to “Settle”. Hardly a ‘heritage’ line, do BR still run it? Maybe they could run excursion fares to meet this naked man!
Hi Christy,
No doubt all will be well tonight.
Like playing with home advantage at this stage.
Did the tent song make the starting fifteen ?
Or will it be sprung from the bench for the all important insurance point ?

Hello Christy,
Remembering last year, walking along the banks of the Lee and hearing your songs pouring out of car windows, as we all descended on the Marquee.
My very best thoughts and wishes for a great gig tonight.
We’re on our travels too. We’re off to Settle to see Steve’s pipes teacher. It’s 3 months since his last c… lesson.
I’ll be wandering into the Town. It’s got a lovely square with ye old naked man cafe at one end of it. The staff are disappointingly fully clothed. I’ll be spending an hour surrounded by dusty books in the second hand book shop.
Happy days to all.
Rebecca

Having recently become a father himself in the last few weeks & delivering us our first most precious Grandson ‘Cuan’ I would be delighted if you could do him the honour of a request
“JOXER GOES TO STUTTGART” his all time favourite, but would be grateful of a mention regardless .
His name is Conal Hunter goes by the the nickname of Chunter.
Much love & good luck for tonight’s gig all the way from County Antrim💛🤍

Evening Christy. I always had the acronym WIMPEY as “We import more Paddies every year”. Backwards it was “You English pricks make Irishmen work”. Composed light-heartedly…………I think. Or maybe with feeling.
Christy's reply
the use of the word “imply” has always remained with me.. a sweet memory from the shit house wall of O’Donoghue’s pub in 1967
The United city is in danger of melting in the inferno…the statue of Mrs Pankhurst may be a puddle before the day’s out…there’s an abundance of cranes as the skyline changes, but the old city buildings still keep their presence in the shadows…
No public music from me (some would say that’s a positive)but I’m playing at home every day.
After many brilliant wanders in Dublin over decades, I finally darkened the door of O’Donoghue’s a few years ago. A sunny Friday lunch time, for a ‘quick pint’ and plan the afternoon walk…I left a few hours later, having witnessed a mighty floor rattling session.I’d also seen walls full of photos of bygone eras…
Have a great gig in the marquee…happy trails…
All the best
Dave

Hello Christy,
I was just admiring the “imply” myself. Masterful use of it. Unlike malleting alcohol and sensibly into the same sentence.
Saw a pic of the beer being delivered to a bar for St Patrick’s day. It looked like they were trying to fill a swimming pool.
Rebecca
Fill us two pints there Phyllis and have soemthing yourself
Not brewed by the good Diageo folk, C.
I sometime miss the ironic pint myelf
Rebeccah, it’s €4.50 to €4.60 a pint in Athlone. You’ll have to inform us how much it is in the southern capital. But I’ll be back soon.
please use alcohol sensibly sez Diageo…pull the other one
