Saturday will be fabulous, from 10 until 1 we are hoping to fill the High Street with Buskers. This is free to all to join in for all musical types, all musical ages and styles.
The Buskers can just turn up any time, claim a pitch and showcase their wares. There will be judges touring the street ( including Joshua) to award cash and trophy prizes in various categories/ age groups. Come on show your talent, spoken word, violin, guitar, bagpipes, whatever you fancy…be a Manic Street Preacher if you dare.
Saturday afternoon has workshops through the town , free to join, learn about various aspects including DJing and Drumming.
In the Border Club the All Stars are playing a gig in the afternoon, and a singing harpist in the HoH cafe……who you might know !
At night the hugely popular Mainstreet Blues Band are playing the HoH Auditorium, and from 9 til midnight ex Number 10 hero, Dread Leask returns to play a Punk and Reggae DJ set in Daltons pub.
Sunday has a Hawick Sings showcase at the ever popular open air Wilton Park Elliot Bandstand, before the Auditorium hosts what aims to be a sell out end to the LMH festival with Lauren Renwick supporting Western End.
Now thats what i call a music weekend , please join us.
We also have bandstand free gigs every Sunday from mid July til the end of August , bookended by the prodigous talents of The Boy With the Lion Head and Matt McGinn from the Mournes.

that silence soon replaced by Davy ,Keith and Declan, driven on by Donal, Eoghan, Brian and myself, Matt,Norman and Sid holding the sound and stage together..Mr Clarke checking oil and tyre pressures… Tom McCarthy was a great supporter of The Hearts…we once billeted, rehearsed ( and partied) in Woody’s
Unfortunately Christy I’m sorry to report that part of the Hillgrove is no longer, it has been converted into a laundry! Tom was a great gig man , we were lucky to have access to all those gigs during the 80s/90s. My older brother took me there for the first time to see The Furys and Davey Arthur when I was fourteen! We had many a night after that with annual visits from the likes of The Wolftones , Bagatelle, Makem + Clancy , Mary Black and of course yourself . Great memories!
Christy's reply
Sorry to hear of The Hillgrove ..I loved the story of how it was built by Tom and his Brother….
Hello Christy,
You can forget your teabags…
A nice, fat teapot, 1 scoop per person plus one for the pot.
Water straight off the boil.
Sit for two minutes (if your tea leaves are good and strong)
Then out through a tea strainer to catch the escapees.
Golden brown in a solid mug.
We were in Settle yesterday for Steve’s pipes lesson. I was in the bookshop and cafe.
Bought a book with the Rime of the Ancient Mariner in it.
There was a folk punk festival on there, this weekend.

Hi C. Before the days ends I want to thank you again for the energetic gig, I think it injected energy into our team today somehow !! The beautiful rendition of the Boys of Barr na Sraide was really special, such a great anthem of South Kerry, in particular. We never anticipated such a great victory and to have the Ref a 4711er who last saw you in NCH and a Lily White, all great omens. Hoping for more good games tomorrow, without penalty shoot outs !! Killarney has always been a great town for the Ballad singing…..I like the energy of the town and its environs…I completed two songs there over the years…”They Never Came Home” and “Tyrone Boys”

a death train sneaks across the Island
deadly poison bound for Killala Bay”
Kerry and All-Irelands, seeing as you mention the great Mick Doyle, the one and only, from Kerry. Mick was on a Triple Crown winning side, early eighties. But anyways in the excitement of all this Mick resolved that they’d come home complete with Triple Crown. Mick wanted a big homecoming into his part of Kerry, Triple Crown on the back of lorry with pipe band etc., but they’d to fill in Mick that this ‘Triple Crown’ doesn’t exist, it’s only a ‘title’. Ah well, that’s how the story goes. And Con H, a great man for ‘da writin’ as they might say out out in some rural parts.

Been away from device these past few days..just been delivered back to me here in the INEC 20 mins before showtime…great to be back here ….first played here almost 40 years ago in the old Gleneagle venue..recorded the “Ride On ” album 2 miles out the road in Muckross….with Declan Sinnott and Donal Lunny spent a great week working on the music….many songs from that album still on the list….there are albums where no songs survived into the ongoing repertoire but the Muckross recordings have lived on….just got my 10 minute call here so I best get my gear on, get out there and tear into the Ballads …..first two songs from that album of 40 years ago
It’s what AI is going to do, R. We wont know it. A few short years. Someone forecast earlier today papers will be gone in ‘ten years’. Three to five I say plus fairly soon they’ll be no need to pay anybody €300,000 to broadcast their voice. It’s the way it’s going. Like it or not.
Cloudy in the west and it looks like rain but how bad ?
Came across this in an old book…
Johnny stood in the old waste field at the head of the street, looking at the hawthorn tree. It was a big tree, and its broad branches of rich white bloom were bending so low that, if he sprang up into the air, he could easily catch one. The waste space was a tangle of weeds in a hurry to hide with their leaves and timorous flowers the rubbish that many careless hands had thrown about there. Scutch grass, docks and dandelions, daisies, small and big, and a few poppies did their best to hide the ugly things from the stately hawthorn tree who set off the weeds with her ladylike look and her queenly perfume. Her scented message of summer’s arrival came pouring out of her blossoms, and went streaming down the little narrow street.
Jaysus, Christy but O’Casey knew the order to put on the words. Could even sneak one like timorous in.
Gan doubt all will be well in the Kingdom tonight.
Will the Big Marquee get an airing ? Will In Zurich ?
