I wish you a safe and joyful trip to the plains of sweet Mayo….my after gig celebrations came to a halt 34 years ago…I look forward to playing the TFT again..first played there in Dec 1972 with Planxty….plenty of drinks after the show back then… now its an oxygen tent, a blast of Reiki, a cup of Camomille, three decades of the Rosary and beddybyes
Hello Christy,
A new fountain pen. Lovely! I’ve always loved stationery. I’d be the sad git staring at the pens through the shop window.
Thanks to Gipp for the podcast link featuring Dr Siobhain Armstrong. Gorgeous noise she makes. Brass strings make a noise that rings and rings. My harp’s bottom octave is metal. When you play further up, all the bottom octave rings in sympathy and makes a drone. Loved the bit about her making false nails out of ping pong balls.
I need to find a picture of her harp that has a monster’s head on it.
I did not realise that this version was captured…a good song to sing…Paul McCormack’s song is based upon a parody of Barney Rushe’s”The Crack was 90 on The Isle of Man”…..(I did add some additional lines to “Weekend in Amsterdam” with the author’s blessing….I may have done the same with the original )
Hi C Well that was another high energy gig, following on from the harrowing story of abuse, neglect and systematic failure told by that woman survivor, how courageous she was to stand there and tell her story ?? You raised not only a magnificent sum but also shone a light on the issue of homelessness and saluted the life’s work of Sr Stan. It was great to hear you and Martin sing together. Fiachna mentioned the gig on his radio show and promised to play Martin’s song again. He also played Alice’s Restaurant in honour of Arlo Guthrie’s 76th birthday, which certainly shortened my journey ! GRAMMA aris beir bua agus beannacht. H

Hi Christy,
Another brilliant evening at HQ…. And what a fantastic contribution to a wonderful cause.
The evening is best summed up by someone sitting near me. When you finished “Lemon Sevens”, a voice went “Wow “. No more needed to be said.
Ride on.

Hi christy, just seen Saint Brendan passing the Quiberon peninsula, the Albatross in tow.

Its pissin outa the heavens here Rory
we’re playin a gig for Sister Stan and Focus here tonight in Vicar St
Martin Leahy has come up from Cork to sing a few songs…his song “everyone should have a home” continues to gain traction but, far as I know, it has not been played on RTE yet..(I’d like to be contradicted on that one) its up on youtube……https://youtu.be/34kW96MG7Bc
all the tickets are gone plus there have been many contributions from around the World for Sister Stan’s ongoing lifelong work with homeless people…
ps.I’ve been contradicted already…Martin tells me that Fíachtna Ó Braonáin has played it once on his late night RTE radio show
Well Christy, wish I was in Vicar St this evening, have a great one.
Guess where I ended up last night? Yes, you are right! I went to Cologne stadium, with 44999 others to a PINK concert! The wife thought it would be a good idea, and she was right. A great concert, the lady is a superb performer, she as some substance to what she says and sings.
But the highlight of the night was for me the support band. The Script from Dublin! They did a great set, and I was amazed how well the German crowd knew them, their lyrics, their gestures.
Then Danny sat down with a guitar, Glen sat beside him with a bodhrán, and the 45000 crowd was absolutely still as they performed ‘If you could see me now’, as a tribute to Mark Sheehan, who should have been on the tour with them. A moving tribute.
But I got to wondering Christy, did you ever do a stadium gig (apart from lining out with the Lily whites in Croker), and if so, how did you build rapport with the crowd?
C’mon the crowd in Vicar St!

Cant say whether I built rapport or just got away with it..hard to know….hard to beat 4 walls , a roof, and the atmosphere of an indoor venue…
Hello Christy,
A new album on the workbench? Oh goody! Hope it’s going well, and your prep for today went swimming along.
My set list for Hawick is looking very healthy. 24 songs. No idea how long they take to sing. A couple of practise sessions. I don’t think I’m going to time them, just see what happens on the day. I’ve got a new folder to put the words and chords in, so I don’t spend hours rifling through.
I was ages before I got a smart phone. Couldn’t get my head around the touchy screen thing. It’s good for quick recordings to see how some thing’s going.
And By Heck, the instructions work. There’ll be no stopping us now…
It will be similar on a laptop but the press and hold on the guestbook typing screen will be a right click.
have been listening a lot lately to a double live Christy Moore c.d. that I ordered online. It is great, I think: the songs, the man’s persona, the singing and the band playing with him. Here’s my twist on one of his songs, sorry friends. I can’t help myself :
Well I never met ol’ Christy
But I played once with Steve Lindsay
Down in Plymouth on a farmer’s market day;
I know John and Seanie Conor,
Martin, Mike and Arnie.
I love to sit with them and play away.
When I go into The Cottage
I sit in with Buck’s musician girls and boys.
I have friends there in the audience.
Sometimes they wave or smile at me
As the music brings us all a bit more joy.
If the folks are listening,
I’ll go home feeling like some king.
If music be the food of life,
Please God, just let that music ring.
I’ve sat with the group called Mick’ s Out
You know that they used to call their band Just Friends.
We laughed and sang around a table
how I loved to share some notes with them.
When I ramble in The Red Rose,
Julie pours a pint to beat the band.
Derrick or Den call me up to sing
And I go up and do the best i can.
If the folks are listening,
I’ll go home feeling like some king.
And if music be the food of life,
Please God, just let that music ring.
And I know the boys from Devri.
I’ve had many the pint with them at Paddy B’s.
I’ve sung with Colm, Slim and Jinty.
Mat Putnam is the open-mike man for me.
Dave Bowman is a friend i know
He plays whistle, tenor banjo
And he also plays the octave mandolin .
The songs he writes just slay me
And I like to just sit and hear him sing.
If the folks are listening,
I’ll go home feeling like some king.
If music be the food of life,
please God, just let that music ring.
Now I never met Bob Dylan,
but I swear that once he was looking right at me.
I just stood there staring back at him..
It went on for the first few songs
until someone said: ” best move along again.
That night the folks were listening
I figure he went home just feeling like a king..
If music be the food of life,
please God always let that music ring.
sorry folks.I can’t seem to stop this. Some of my best friends and musical times are not in it yet. I’ll try to pick it up again tomorrow.
😎

What an unexpected special treat it was for us to attend your Drogheda concert. Our daughter Rebecca Hope who we are travelling with from Nelson, New Zealand, organised it secretly with our son Dan who drove us up from Dun Laoghaire where we are staying with him and his family for another week. We have in the past been to your concerts in Galway and Wicklow and been enthralled every time. And for the second time you mentioned us from the stage. As before we were amazed at the range of your repertoire from soft and intimate to fierce and strident songs. We love your storytelling. You are truly amazing. We enjoy many of your CDs and DVDs back at home to remind us of you. Thanks for one of the most incredible highlights of our trip to Ireland. Love from Sally and Tom Evison
