Hi
Been following Christy for the last 37 years. Last saw him in Manchester at the Bridgewater Hall.
Just wondering if there are any U.K. concerts planned for next year.
Awe, thank you, Anne. I was getting worried but my email came in the 12.36 batch too. I promised my 2 teenage grandsons tickets to their first Christy gig and have to keep that promise.
Thank you, Christy and your back room team. The three generations from Dungiven look forward to their annual pilgrimage to Vicar Street
Hi Bring back the old ways pay at the styles. Sat down for hours to get tickets for the family to see the decent lads of Coldplay who guested with you in a field one time. I watched paint dry from a low entry at 6000 down to been told No Sale. Why is there no transparency for the punters in the way whole system works, like long go you joined a physical queue and you saw where you were at and left it if too long. But now do these wealthy monopolies get off on pushing pain on our kids¿ and we all have to grin and bear it and genuflect. It’s a minefield for an older person figuring out if you do get a chance at buying the ticket on a laptop, fine if you have a 50inch screen with all the combinations. A Transition Year student would design a better interactive ticket sales website that what’s there at the moment.

We tried to keep hard ticket sales going up to a few years back but gig culture has changed completely…we found that hard tickets are no longer utilised, that online tickets are , by far,the audience preference…
Like you, I find it bewildering to try and purchase online tickets but most people manage it in the blink of an eye…c’est la bleedin vie JP….but the story will change again when the grid goes down
The Rakes of Kildare, what a great name for a band…I’m reminded of your singing of “I’m a Bogman” at the Big Music Week in Newbridge (was it at a secondary school?) Gig set up is fairly simple.. I’ve a microphone (Shure SM58 beta) and an acoustic guitar (Walden G630e) bought in 2013. A 6-channel PreSonus desk and a single RCF monitor. No backing tracks. The venue was a new(ish) bar who have a built in PA which allowed me to link in and sounded pretty good, which was handy. I didn’t bring a setlist, instead noted a dozen songs that I felt might work well and went with the flow from there. Played 2 hours with no break from 9-11pm. There were a scattering of people in, some returning from Croke Park, some still on the Saturday night buzz, and the guy who asked for John O Dreams brought a dozen in from Ballyhaise, on a minibus. They were all going strong when I departed..

that Big Music Week GIg was in “The Girls Secondary”….a great occasion in the home Town…. KIng Modo played too as did Luka Bloom ..Miriam O’Connor compered proceedings and I met Celine Byrne there….would love to have heard her sing..what a voice, the Pride of Caragh
Thanks for sharing your gig process
the gig scene has changed completely in my working lifetime…
at the outset ,just a guitar…then with Planxty in 1971, my first intro to “gear”…very little at first, 4 mikes, 2 Hurley crazy boxes, a 100watt marshall amp and a binson echo..Donal mixed the sound on stage.. then with Moving Hearts our own Rig and truck, 7 piece Band with 3 crew….now its totally scaled up with top sound, lighting , staging and the gig enhanced in every way possible…57 years ago I dreaded the challenge of Folk Clubs with PA sytems….most performers on the circuit had the same attitude, mikes and PA systems were very poor quality and no one had a clue how to work them….in 2023 I thoroughly enjoy collaborating with David,Johnny,Dickon,Geoff, Michael ,Paddy, Cian and all the various house crews who make my work possible and enjoyable
Hello Christy,
The Rakes of Kildare. That’s a great name. Do you remember what you played that night? Was it all folk stuff you were doing?
The all Ireland Final was on BBC2 here, which was great. Turn TV on and there it is. It’s all fresh and new to me, so reading your thoughts is fascinating. I love the double decker goal thing and the way it’s played on the same pinch as the Hurling. Amazing to see elite athletes who are also amateurs. I guess it’s the same with music though. Watching a round ball took some getting used to. I think I get what you meant about defined positions. It’s one of the most enjoyable things, for me, about Rugby. I loved the way Dara O’Brian and gang had agreed to talk for nothing, just to get a ticket. All the fans jumbled together, with lots of blue on Hill 16.
The yellow cards confused me. No one got sent off? Sorry, I’ll stop asking questions now (well, at least till I get to the next topic…).
I’d like to hear more about Kevin’s gig too.
And your’s.
Rebecca

Played a gig in the hometown tonight and was delighted to get a request for John O Dreams from a guy who had heard me doing a live stream version during lockdown. If ever there was a noble call..
First solo gig in some time.. played some Springsteen, Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, Tracy Chapman, Thom Moore (Cavan Girl), Van the man and some Coldplay for those who got no tickets in the Ticketmaster fiasco during the week..

I’d love to read more about your gig….
the venue, your process, your instrument, set list,P.A., duration, audience, facilities,….
any information you might be willing to share….
I seldom get to gigs or sessions these days but still have a great curiosity about same ….
I’ve not had the pleasure of a hometown gig for a good number of years…the closest would be Kilashee in Naas, about 7 miles “across the fields” from home…
but tucked away in the memory are early Newbridge gigs in the 1950’s and 60’s,
a talent competion in The Palace Cinema won by Charlie O’Shaugnessy singing
“Robin Hood Riding Thru The Glen”, singing “Kevin Barry” in Mick Sheahan’s Hall on the Cutlery Road”, a gig in Hugh Neeson’s “select lounge” Easter 1966 to mark the 50th anniversay of “The Rising”, a spot at the Fianna Fail annual dance in the Town Hall when our Trio “The Rakes Of Kildare” *** played a “spot” during an interval …we were booked by John Joe Murray and paid £3 and a dozen “stout”…
*** I’ve mentioned our Rakes before….Donal and Frank Lunny on Guitar & Clarke C Whistle with myself on guitar and vocals
Just caught up with Sinéad in Vicar Street and her performance was breathtaking.
Was wondering if you were at it. A protest singer and Ireland’s conscience. Love that she ended the last song with…’I know your answer and you can shove it’. Enough said.
Well Christy, here it is.
The week of Sodom and Begorra.
Agony and ecstacy.
Hairy bacon.
Sheep dressed up as mutton.
Clergymen dressed up like men.
Old melodeans.
And Michael O’Hehir is waiting.
What a week to come, and all after today’s fascinating final.
C’mon down to the Galway Races, kip at Philip Treacey’s with marriages and divorces.

Well that took some working out…
If you google Christy Moore royal festival hall, the first result is a news item on this site from 2018, advertising two gigs in May 2019 at the Royal festival hall. The news item doesn’t say which year it is, but it’s definitely in the 2018 section. If you search a little further, these gigs did happen in 2019. Wish I’d been there…
Hello Christy,
Good morning to you. I hope you are well.

Hi Christy, you may remember me. I met you after your gig at The Anvil in Basingstoke (2016 if I recall). I showed you a tattoo of your autograph I’d had inked a few years previous.
Myself and a great friend of mine have recently set up a duo to pay tribute to you and Declan. We are hoping to call ourselves ‘More Christy’ if that is OK with you? If not we’ll have to think of something else.
Hope to see you when you come over to London next year. Patiently waiting for tickets to be available.
