Great to see the “House Full ” signs on the gigs page – a lot of magic nights ahead for many people. Thinking of Seamus Heaney tonight- those 10 years seem to have flown by. He left a great legacy behind him and his wirk is standing the test of time. Looking forward to the Bundoran gig- hopefully I’ll get there this year – been a bit too long since my last gig. Good luck in the city of the tribes this weekend. Always an amazing gig and a wonderful city of wonderful people. Sweet music, roll on.
Now caught up on shut eye and mulling over the long overdue ace weekend just spent with family in Dublin and the yellow furze of Co Meath…
Like the Bourkeys, I found Dublin as vibrant as ever, classic buildings often sunbathed too! Highly recommending the installations at http://www.epicchq.com didn’t see you mentioned in the music section, but might have to revisit to check!
Misty,rainy/sunny Meath had a timeless quality…50 years since my first crossing the Boyne at Slane was mighty. The nearby ancient ruins will long outlive me!
Following up on posts about Oysterband/ Oyster Band…I’m a long time fan,so biased…but well worth checking out their website (great biogs on band and members)and YouTube …and even better to see them gig. Plus occasional link ups with the brilliant June Tabor…then there’s a great selection of trad songs, plus gems like ‘ Love will tear us apart’ by Joy Division and Jefferson Airplane’s ‘White Rabbit’…something for everyone!
Enjoy the gigs and all good wishes to all here.

Hello Christy,
You’ve recommended Arty McGlynn’s album “Botera” a couple of times when I’ve talked about listening to his “McGlynn’s Fancy” album.
I’ve been searching for it online so I could buy a copy for a few months now. No luck at all! Discogs has it listed but there’s never one for sale.
I wonder if someone on the guestbook could help please. I’d love to hear it.
A album called the Lark in the Morning arrived here this morning. Looking forward to getting it spinning.

Hi christy..hope your doing well, just got back from tramping the roads from easkey to kerry, stopping over in every place that would let me park, three months of peace and quiet, I got to write some new stuff, got to say farewell to some old friends who figured the world is not their cup of tea anymore , suicide is a mean and selfish way to go..but who am I to judge…even though I don’t come on here too often I follow your cart now and then…if you ever need new stuff to listen to you will find me here…https://youtu.be/KUerahh-csA?si=4a_K9ZvYtJqY-g1A. Way back in the old world , the Rank & File of Irish Troops in Lebanon requested for me to come and sing to them in “The Leb”…I agreed….but higher ranks, well behind the lines, deemed me unsuitable to the task ..alas I never got to travel…some time later we met the OC of the Curragh Camp at the Abbey Theatre…( he was a neighbour back in the late 50s when he was a 2nd Lt)..my mother asked him about the Lebanon barring order….he replied that “Christopher was a bold boy”..after further questions ( and drinks) he revealed that I was deemed unsuitable to sing for the Irish Troops because I had sung for Republican POWs in Portlaoise Prison and also made visits to the H.Blocks of Long Kesh….
I never had any problems singing in The Curragh camp… in the 50’s I sang at variety concerts there as a boy soprano…
Things have eased a bit..I was happy to record a video gig for Irish Troops on the Golan Heights this year..it was shown in the canteen on St Patricks day…
Hello Christy,
I think I’ve got all the Planxty albums, that first line up, I listen to it a lot. Was watching it yesterday afternoon, the 2004 dvd. Sparks fly. I don’t know, there’s a fire to it. It happens sometimes with certain people, doesn’t it. Other times it’s like wading through treacle. I went to a session in Brighouse just the once. It was 2 hours. The people there didn’t welcome folk music, it was incessant knocking on heaven’s door. I rang Steve to come and rescue me after an hour. It’s not easy to make a discreet exit when your instrument has a case a big as a coffin.
There’s a folk session too, good fun!
Here’s a short interview with Luke Kelly from 1963. https://www.rte.ie/archives/2014/0130/500946-luke-kelly-died-30-years-today/
Thank you for the music. I’ve been brought up in the 80s/90s hearing the cassettes in the cars and the songs being sang out by uncles on every school holiday when we were taken to spend time in Athlone.
Then when I was old enough to drink, you became the sound track to my drinking career! I saw you on the same bill at Glastonbury as James Brown and Morrissey, legends.
Thankfully you’ve been the soundtrack to my sobriety over the past 5 years.
Now I have the pleasure of taking my son along to hear you at Galway on Friday. He is 8. He can’t wait, I can’t wait. I was telling him I was writing a message here and if he had anything to say. He asked if you’d play Spancil Hill! I wonder if Ramone will be the youngest there?
All the love in the world to you pal. Thank you for the music and see you Friday.
