Then Matt calls on me to play “The Moving Cloud”.
I have some whiskey in me.
There’s something about the way Matt is tapping his foot
and cocking his head, the way he draws the music into him
this night. He’s like a man with a plate of stew after a long day in the fields.

thats beautiful Bourkey….. a short story in itself
Wally and I had a few good hours writing “Arthur’s Day”….I’ve not heard it since that night on Prime Time TV….not a very good song but it helped ,in some small way, to get rid of that alcoholiday..
Thanks for posting
Hi C. I just spotted this, you certainly have had a positive impact on many facets of Irish life and society in general, the environment, domestic violence, integration etc and the infamous Arthur’s Day https://www.galwaybeo.ie/culture/notorious-irish-pubs-event-arthurs-8781554 Beir bua agus beannacht. 1987, my God. A ‘loose set’ you call it. I liked the sense of spontaneity about it that Uncle Gaybo could manage and do rather well on live TV.
Loose sets and Liffey Descents, one could discern ‘poetry’ entering into here somewhere.
Hi Christy,
Glad to hear the surfers’ paradise at Bundoran went well.
Hope you took a dip to pay homage to the lad negotiating the waves on a plank of wood after 14 pints of stout.
Tv has Soccer players selling shaving products , rugby players punting skin care items, film stars shoving aftershave and pugilists extolling fat-free cooking.
So this beggars the question as to what does a non-self respecting musician advertise on tv these days?

Hello Christy,
Hope you don’t mind me posting this, it must have been like herding cats. But I love the intensity between the three of you once you get going. https://youtu.be/hzsq2NDoFRI?si=udban-1XyNWXMyZq
Do songs turn up unannounced and out of the blue for you? I know they do.
Yesterday Black is the Colour turned up during my practice. Never played or sung it before, and there it was, bold as you like. It’s got lovely chords.

Christy's reply
it was a loose set but always a joy to play with Matt & Donal
My first post and thanks for the all the good craic over the years. Its been a helluva ride. Thanks for that. You’re probably fed up of people asking but is there any chance of a last “hurrah” across the pond? Be lovely to see you again and a friends daughter would be in heaven catching you live for the first time.
PS..Thought you’d like to see this quite stunning and (to now) rare performance from your old friend Sinead. Not long uploaded by the drummer Dave Ruffy. If there’s a better performance from her then I’ve not seen it yet!
Morra Simon,
I tore a hole in my canoe last week on the Liffey descent..soon as I have her patched up I’ll aim for Holyhead…. I’ll give Nigel Farage a ring and see if he can sort my work permit…
Thanks for posting Sinéad in Chile……Her Spirit forever inspiring as she rests in peace
Hi Christy,
There was a perfect moment of
singer, song and audience when you performed
My little Honda 50 in The Hanger recently.
Headin’ down to Robertstown
For the bingo and the beer
Comin’ round The Hill of Allen
She hit the ton in second gear
No wonder it went down so well

Alright Christy, hope you’re well. One my of pals from down here in the colony returned home to visit family and was raving about your show in Bundoran. Have you managed to get your hands on Decky McLaughlin’s new album yet? I’m keen to hear your thoughts if so.

Its here Matt..arrived in from the man himself…gonna have a listen as soon as I get my CD player back..its gone in for an NCT
I hope the flight will be in time:) so happy about your answer…but my husband told me to to sing as loud as I can…cause this is not one of my best performances….looking forward to sunday evening! Kind regards Tanja

came back down the new road home last night still buzzin..free wheeled down the Curlews into Boyle, got a fill-up of Red in Flaherty’s and before I knew it we were passin the Dead Man Murrays and nearly home….
This Gem was written by Tom Tuohy, the Bard of Coill Dubh, Tom ruled the Ballad scene around the Boglands of Kildare before fate carried him away to the Mountains of Mainland Europe….his songs still resonate from Blacktrench to Clogherinkoe…his exploits still remembered in awe from Mylerstown to Prosperous and all Townlands in between….
I first heard him sing it in an ashram near Dag Welds the night after Pa Connolly drove the Roadstone Lorry into the Seven Springs….with Tom’s blessing I recorded his “Little Honda 50″…..subsequently , it was re-covered by Seamus Moore ( no relation) ….many listeners much prefer Seamus’s version which I’ve not heard but ,take it from me….nothing comes near the original version of the man himself…..Tom Tuohy Rules…OK…
First of all , Thanks for Duffys Cut , I thought of Wally while you sang it last night. We were at a funeral in Ardara last week and we talked about young John Ruddy , one of the victims of the Malvern Valley , whose remains were reinterred in the cemetery there a few years ago.
It was a high energy show last night for sure….. songs and laughter….. young and old and Inbetweeners …..
Let the music keep the spirits high.
Tuesday may well have been the new Saturday for a few hours but Wed seems to be still Wednesday…
See you in Belfast….

twas yourself that brought Duffy to the Great Northern last night….I love that room….a lot of sadness in the Town old Bundoran last night….
What can I say, an amazing night in Bundoran. There may have even been a tear shed, you made a memory that will be with me and my daughter forever, a really really special night and my Sophia said “Daddy it was like I was famous everyone was asking was I the 9 year old girl and you know the best part about it was seeing how happy you where when we where singing bright blue rose together” that’s a comment worth worth more than it’s weight in gold – thanks for the kindness tonight from you and the team you didn’t have to do but it was truly a magical moment
Christy's reply
memories are made of this…well done John…hi to Sophia
Ah Christy! What can I say? You’re an absolute legend. Due to my anxiety I was too scared to ask for honda 50 to be played. I did try and explain after the show that due to my master’s in Irish studies I fell in love with your music and it’s meaning. Perhaps one day I’ll be graced with meeting you.
Staying at the great northern tonight much love, sincerely.

It would have been my pleasure..I always enjoy singing that song
Like John from Liverpool & as CM notes – we can easily get disillusioned with todays world & the going ons…
– and then: a coo from a baby, a smile from a Mum, a kiss from a lover, a song from a good heart reminds us that the important things – things that really matter – they don’t change
Love, kindness, understanding, tolerance: we got ‘em by the bucketload
We shall overcome (or in Trump’s case: We shall overcomb)
Woody’s guitar aimed at fascism
Luv yez orl
& geez this retirement’s a bloody cracker of an idea – 7 days a week but the money’s no good – (an old Redgum line)

Sure enjoyed the concert tonight and the “shout out”. You chose THE VOYAGE to sing which was perfect! I sang that song to Rick at our 40th anniversary celebration in 2019. Thanks Christy. Kathleen and Rick (sure wish you would make a visit to WA!)

Hello Christy,
Loving the poem by Bourkey.
Bourkey, how’s about writing a few lines about the guestbook?
Pretty please…!
Heres something for those of us missing the gigs, or loving them.

I liked the ‘for starters’ bit Christy.
Reminds me of the ‘Powdered Milk Brigade’ in the Box Set.
Great to hear there is still fire in the belly.
