Great night back at the Moat. An amazing tribute to your friend Liam Óg O’Flynn. Great to have Jane there and to hear Colm play a set of Liams pipes. What a special and emotional night. People ask, what group would you have liked to have heard live? My answer? Planxty…every time….Ride on Christy and thanks for the stories and trip down memory lane.

We remembered and paid tribute to our beloved Kildare man…we gathered in Nás na Rí last night at The Moate Theatre in the heart of the Old Town….his music still resounding ..we remembered him, eyes down in blissful concentration, his fingers dancing, hopping, coaxing, cranning golden notes from that ancient chanter… his regulators and drones in perfect unison and harmony…we sat enthralled as his stunning recording of “The Gold Ring” encircled us all……
His Pipes were there too, safe in the hands of young Colm Broderick….Liam had the foresight to endow his three sets to “na Píobairí Uileann”…instead of gathering dust, his instruments are constantly resounding in the safe hands of Colm Broderick, Louise Mulcahy and Pádraic MacMathúna….
It was a treasured opportunity to be part of the Liam Óg O’Flynn annual Festival….A great crowd gathered…His loving Wife Jane was the guest of honour…his nephew Olaf Vize flew in from New York to be with us…Alan O’Leary came from London….there was love in the room for our absent friend…
the night was recorded and, hopefully, we can make it available in due course
So gutted to miss the last concert in Bundoran.
Was with Gerry on Tuesday for some great remenises of Manchester
Such fond memories of our times together.
Do you remember coming with us to the Spinner’s club in Liverpool.
They weren’t going to let you sing so Eamon called you up in our second spot.I
They never booked us again after that.

Hi Christy,
I’m at Vicar St on December 4th and again in January 7th – then with my brother Thomas and his wife Christina. Looking forward to the fishermen and many other of your songs :-).
Perfect opportunity for me to enjoy your gigs and visit my Dublin friends (who said that they will have me back on stage in one or the other pub for a song or two – so I better get back to practising ;-). ).
Let the music keep our spirits high!
Birgit
Hi Christy,
great to read the diary of your European Tour in 2011 and thanks to Hilary for posting the link! Bochum was my second concert, the first being a day before St.
Patrick’s Day another 15 years earlier in Dusseldorf – both remain in fond memory. And I’m really glad that I’m able to enjoy more of these memorable moments in Vicar St not too long in the future 🙂
First time (afaik) that the Rugby World Cup ist shown on German free TV – and I was really impressed by the boys in green beating South Africa! Now looking forward to the match on Saturday. And I must admit that although I sometimes attend matches of my local team I’m happy that the commentators try to explain the rules for beginners like me – tough job in such an action-packed match like this ;-).
Currently I try to sing and play 16 fishermen raving – and singing shanties to the dancefloor all at sea. Nevertheless enjoyed the Marsh family’s versions that would have remained a mystery to me without this guestbook
All the best to you and your team

Hi Christy,
Delighted to report that there was a winner in Glasgow last night.
Unfortunately it wasn’t Glasgow’s green n white but still, son Charlie and i went to see the Laird of the Mournes, Matt McGinn, play a great solo set upstairs in the Doublet bar off the Great Western Road.
Kicking off just after 7.30pm through until just after 10, it was a festival of successful scores.
He played a stormer, started off strongly and claimed the stadium, forced the pace when needed to get the fans rocking, and slowed it down just to be in control ,whilst passing possession of the song choices back and forth between himself and the fans as the moment required.
By half time refreshments were needed to whet the throats and re-energise the player.
The second half flashed past too quickly, plenty of chances for the crowd to sing along, encouraging Matt to express himself and his talents fully.
A full house left in raptures by the end, and with team selection including
Common Man
Bubblegum
Darkest before the day
May you never
And best of all his own ‘Lyra’
This was a winning performance, thankfully there was at least one in Glesga last night.
The saint of the North of Ireland brought home the victory.
Rory

I’ll be schlepping the harp over to the Topic folk club in Bradford on 12th October. I’ve been promised a floor spot. This will be my first, it’s taken a lot of getting out of the door since I’ve got used to hibernating.
Time to put on the big girl pants and get on with it.

Deep heart full thanks. I was at your concert in Tullow, and have spent the past several days absorbing the brilliance, love, power, joy, feel so good, out of this world experience of listening and being in your inspired and generous presence. Thank you, Christy Moore for personally welcoming me and giving me a gift of a lifetime. Thank you for welcoming me with Cliffs of Dooneen, tears were flowing and I will never forget this moment of true happiness, beauty, history and being in my ancestral homeland welcomed, moved beyond words and deeply comforted, your presence lights up the world 🌟🙏🌟🌟❤️🔥

its not every day we get an Alaskan songster in our midst..we like to welcome our long haul listeners..I felt the audience rose to the occasion with their beautiful singing of the great old song…
its one of those songs that travels well..no matter where its voiced, every listener has their own personal vision when they hear this song….it was written by Jack McAuliffe…a North Kerry man who lived by the Cliffs of Dooneen…( I may be corrected on this !!)
Hi Christy, Bourkey’s comment (great) about The Kerryman reminded me of The Man From The Daily Mail. O’Casey’s song (1920) came into my head recently and could have sworn you sang it along the way but couldn’t see it in your lyrics section. First heard it in the early 70’s in the Green Briar sung by Ray McAreavey and Wolfhound. Brilliant gigs. In later years we used to go to Casement to hear Ray with Casey’s Crew – formed by Rab McCullough to raise funds for the social club – what a partnership. Looking forward to seeing you again in the Orchard County on the 19th. Go well! Mary

Another Thanks for sharing your 2011-experiences, Hilary. I had tickets for Hamburg Oct.1st and Bochum Oct.2nd.
The gigs were great. But I also do not forget the traffic jam when leaving Hamburg and arriving Bochum on 7.55pm.
Hello Christy,
Thanks to Hilary for posting the link to your 6 day trog around Europe. I loved the rhythm of it, how you fit in the practice, the writing, the observing like breathing. The way Missing You appears in the set list twice on 8th October. The closeted world, the space and quiet. I wondered when you started using the bodhran to express feelings during songs.
I ordered 26 strings for my harp yesterday, plus a few duplicates to replace the ones that that ive put on it that arent an exact match. They work but they don’t sound exactly the same.
The bottom octave is brass and they don’t break very often, if at all. They need to be changed by a professional ever few years or so, they’re very heavy to handle.
I thought about those brass strings as you talked about the secrets of an instrument. Those 8 brass string all react when you play any note on the harp. They form a drone and create most of the noise you hear when the harp is played. They make the whole instrument vibrate. Magic. I guess this is why the oldharps with their full set of metal strings could fill a hall with sound.
So the lump of money that I swapped my first harp for is now quite a bit smaller and has turned into sound. Makes me think of Andy Irvine transforming blood into a bouzouki.
Hi Christy,
The Oct 2011 chat is a wonderful description of the trip. Regrettably I wasn’t part of the Gaggle that took off from the Green Fields; however, there was no shortage of stories regaling the good time that was had by all, and of course the generous fans met along the way, especially Petra and Uwe.
The Boks are busy suggesting how our fellow Celts might take us out of the World Cup. I have no doubt that Johnny and the Boys will do us proud and march on to further glory.
Ride on,
Patsy

We were at your concert on Sunday night in Tullow, we had my mum age 86 and my son age 10 there, it was a night to remember forever.
To see Christy live was always a bucket list dream for my mum and it was an honour to be able to fulfil this with her.
I have seen Christy in London and Dublin on numerous occasions, but Sunday was amazing, so personal and he sang wow.

Sunday night created memories that will live in my heart forever.

Hi C. The date of 3rd Oct is etched in my memory, in 2011 it was the first day of your 6 gig EU tour, 3 German gigs, plus Brussels, Antwerp and Amsterdam. Several of us were lucky to be able to go to all 6 gigs, Adam and I were so fortunate that Petra and Uwe drove us the entire tour, such hospitality and generosity ! The German 4711ers designated themselves as hosts and organised get togethers in various cities. Many 4711ers joined along the way from around the globe, Maryline came from Chile, people came from UK and Holland and of course the host countries as well as a gaggle from the Island. It was such a wonderful time. The venues ranged from enormous to funky, but regardless the audiences were always so welcoming to you and Declan. It must have been some challenge for your crew to put it all together and then to deliver it across 3 countries and several languages. It is a trip I will never forget, the camaraderie among the 4711ers in special for sure, and much appreciated. And although foreign tours are no longer an option people continue to travel from far and wide and across the generations to hear you. Beir bua agus beannacht. H
