I loved your read of January, a great read; interesting. Am lissnin (for the second time here) to ‘Unfinished Revolution’ as I read that the writer of the song has passed away, Peter Cadle RIP – it’s still one my all-time favorite recordings of yours. And then I go on to read your comments on just what was done here in the name of religion as we momentarily remember Savita and what’s still going on here and the ‘moralist’s out there dictating our lives. It’s poignant then to read that letter from Joan Jara and to remember those who died for principles – it’s sad to read her account of her life.
On the Dalymount Park festival, I’d check that, are you sure it was ’76? I’d reckon that was around ’79 or 1980, I recall that festival but didnt go to it, those heavy rockers were off the card and off my listening list by then. Ah the oul Meeting Place, I think its gone is it?! When it was ‘dangerous’ to singing ballads, meself and yerself were out!
I see you make reference to Yeats, I’ve always liked your rendition of Wandering Aengus but Mike Scott and his Yeats songs particularly Stolen Child I do like and I’ve a poem even scribed from listening to it.
C,a quick Q: I recall lines from your recording of Cadle’s great song being used in a Channel Four film on Ireland, but I’ve located what I think is the film on You Tube but I cant find the relevant clip in the film… was part of ‘…Revolution’ used in a controversial C4 film on Ireland, Mrs T banned it at the time from being shown………….. I recall seeing a clip of that song sung by you used in a film.
Bear bua!

you’re right, Dalymount was 1979…. re your query,Bits of the songs often show up in Documentaries, always an exciting moment, cant help you with the Channel 4 query but they sure made a lot of good stuff in earlier times…bit like TG4 do now…missed the Benny Tribute on RTE last night…not that it makes any difference much around here but I’ll be glad to see the back of him, he gives me the shivers, infallible how are ye ….. on a separate issue, I was thinkin, would’nt it be great if they gave the Late Late show to Paddy O’ Gorman….a host who would actually engage in conversation…. the Meeting Place is still there but under a different name… Sean and Shay Spillane are both gone to the Upstairs Lounge but Paddy is still to the good, had a yarn with him a while back…we had some nights up there… I still remember exactly how it all started, way back in 1973
Hi Christy,

Good to hear that Ennis is going well. It’s a beautiful town to be in. John Prine was magnificent last night – couple of senior moments but we all get them. Found myself wishing “If i could only have written that song” – and then the next, and the next. Such a songbook to have written, and such a gentle laid back guy. Hope you enjoy him even a fraction of what i did last night. Great guitar playing from Jason Wilbur too – he might even give Declan a run for his money 🙂 Some good stories from Philip Donnelly supporting him too. What was it about your generation that gave us such talented musicians and writers? We are so lucky to have you all to listen to.
Christy's reply
….played a few times with Philip, The Clontarf Cowboy always had his saddle bags full of tasty licks…used to meet him a lot back in the days when I was gigging with Jimmy Faulkner
Saw your programme recently, one night only, on RTE player. I really enjoyed it very much. With best regards to you!

I have a feeling that the Ennis gigs are going to be great ones – great listeners in Co Clare. Won’t be there myself but have the compensation of a John Prine gig tonight. We are so honoured that gifted musicians like yourselves continue to perform and keep us entertained. God forbid that we ever take it for granted. We are privileged and have a responsibility to support our actors, artists, writers and musicians. They will get us through these difficult times more than any politicians. Best wishes for tonight’s gig and look forward to seeing you soon.

John Prine has written some of the most beautiful songs that I have heard….hope you had a great night with him..I hope to hear him next week..Ennis was just lovely
Hi Christy, This could be a long shot as it’s such short notice for tonights show in Glór. But I’m just wondering if by any chance you could give a shout out to my sister Glenda and her fiancè Sean. They have been together years and have recently gotten engaged. Glenda absolutely loves your music and they have attend loads of your concerts however this is the first since their engagment. If ‘black is the colour’ was on your set list tonight perhaps you could mention it before that. . . but i’d appreciate any mention. Enjoy your touring and your stay in Clare.
Hi Christy,
I am so so looking forward to your shows this weekend in Ennis , Its my birthday , the wifes birthday and our third wedding anniversary this weekend and I could not think of a better way to celebrate it (I hope the wife feels the same when she arrives at glor 🙂 ) she has just about forgiven me for cancelling Turkey for your Lisdoon shows 🙂 her name is Svetlana from Belarus give her a shout out if you can ….she loves Black is the colour 🙂 have a great weekend in clare Christy.

Hi Christy, just spend a lovely afternoon with your DVD Uncovered, and how fantastic that was! It was all too long ago I had done that, and to hear my all time favorite ‘The song of wandering Aengus’ was so moving. Thanks so much!
