Evening Christy,
Yesterday i was across for Jayo’s dad’s funeral.
Tommy Kinane was some man for one man, and he loved a tea dance even in the last of his 90 years.
There were musical connections of course.
He left the Naas Chapel to us singing Slievenamon,
At the cemetery in Ardmayle i noted a headstone to someone from Ballydine ( a colourless vapour) and when he was lowered into the ground the Saw Doctors’ Tommy K was played.

Well Christy, call Rory in on this one, our Scot literature expert.
As the bould P.J. Carroll was sat looking out the window of his cigarette factory office in Church St Dundalk, his team were frantically discussing names for his new cigarette. ‘What’s that monument there in that churchyard’ asked P.J. ‘well that’s for Agnes, Robbie Burns sister’ said a board member. ‘Who?’ asked P J. ‘Robbie Burn’s sister, you know the Scottish poet, ‘Flow gently Sweet Afton and all that stuff’.
That’s it shouted P J. Sweet Afton, our new brand name!
My father devoured them, and I ‘borrowed’ some to taste …
Christy's reply
a curse upon the memory of PJ…..

Apologies if this is the wrong place for this message and if it is please feel free to remove it. I have tickets for the Belfast gig tomorrow night but we cannot attend due to unforeseen circumstances. If anyone is looking for tickets please leave a message. Thanks (I have six tickets in total, 2 sets of three) Dublin based but can transfer by e-mail.
Hello Christy,
Yes, I play it in 6 minutes something these days. I took timings for various performances. The first time I did it I was 6 months in, tied in knots by the chords and it took me nearly 9 minures. 6 something feels comfortable now. I sing it in C. So C, F and Dminor chords. A kind of weird E minor appears sometimes, in the love scene. I let it be.
Smoking was a big part of my grandparents’ lives. I’ve never understood it, they weren’t singers… One grandma was convinced smoking ‘fumigated your passages’, she sang hymns. The other chain smoked her way through 60 a day and died of pneumonia. My grandads both smoked pipes. One died when I was very young. I remember wreaths of smoke coming from an armchair. He kept his tobacco in a little table. I have it now. It smelt of him.
Some mighty reading here this past while.. it’s great to drop in daily to read of the anticipation of upcoming gigs, reviews of recent gigs, recollection of bygone times and links to god-knows-where! Have you heard the new song, “The Idler” by The Mary Wallopers? (Hot Press review reads “denouncing landlords, the clergy, ‘Blueshirts’, and society’s tendency to punch down instead of up – calling out, on ‘The Idler’, the person ‘who forgets their history, and says ‘Ireland is full…”)
Hello Christy,
We are coming from Chicago to see you Thursday night in Belfast. We can’t wait! Your song, “In the City of Chicago” is a very special to us. My husband, Gerard is from Cushendall, and has lived in Chicago for 30 years! When you sing “ Donegal” we always say “Cushendall” instead!
See you Thursday!
I’m completely blown away by your most generous comment in offering my son advice on singing your song “Black is the colour” at the Feis Ceoil, I cannot thank you enough and yes we will accept.
Any advice you can give would be fantastic, if you want I can link (somehow) an audio of him singing the song for you.
Whatever you can advise him he will do, thanks a million again.
Hi Christy,
looking forward to the show in Belfast on Thursday.
A good friend of mine, Eric Wall, is flying in from Green Bay Wisconsin to attend. I first introduced him to “Christy” in Finland 20 years ago and he’s been a fan ever since. Can I request “City of Chicago” for him and also a big thank you to my wife Rosemary who kindly donated her ticket to Eric (it was last minute plans). She’s sad to be missing it but she’ll be booking botanic gardens on Friday morning. We (wife and I) also seen you in Mullingar last year. Was fantastic show.

make sure you’re not late…I’ll open with it at 8pm !!!
Hi Christy, looking forward to Beal Feirste on Thursday night. I hope you and the crewe have a safe trip north on the rock road from Dublin, any chance you could drop off at Dundalk on the way past and pick me up 20 Sweet Afton, i’ll see you straight at the gig?

Hello Christy,
Thank you for giving us the setlist in such detail. I think you might have just put together the perfect gig for me.
I’ve spent some time going through it this morning. I’d have loved to have heard what you did with Little Musgrave. The only way it could have been better for me would be to sit in a room with you and no microphone. I’m still at this song every day. I sang it for the Topic Folk Club Zoom session.
It’s one of those songs that seems to causes a profound stir. I wish I’d heard you on Saturday.

I hits the G chord and I sets off for Bucklesfordberry ….with the odd C and A minor to break the journey….I arrives in about 6 minutes later
Hallo Christy, today I played all your cd’s all day. It was an escape from the News about Palestina. It was my search for comfort, for tenderness and peace. There was only grieve. No war can be won, there are always victims only. Now, before going to sleep, I listen to the music of Arvo Part. Goodnight Christy, may God bless you

Would love to get a recording of last night. I was in the moment and not pressing buttons on my phone but even without, the memory of that experience will live on for a long long time.
Hello Christy,
I saw the festival and wished I could be there. There are a couple that pull the heart strings.
If you don’t mind, what did you sing please?
Steve’s pipes have been a 3 quarter set for about a year now. The bass drone is beautifully bedded in and has a presence like you’ve seldom heard. It’s a devil to keep even, Liam was the complete master at it.
Hope the regulators will appear in the next year. David Lim has stopped taking orders for pipes. He has a waiting list of 4 years.
Hope today is a good day for rugby fans.

Good am C. What an honour and privilege to be at your carefully curated concert last night in praise and memory of your companero Liam Og ? It was wonderful to hear the insights and stories of your time together and to hear of his influence, impact and contribution to the songs. The setlist I am sure took many hours of practice and preparation. You certainly did him justice. The inclusion of Colm Broderick was magical and the playing the Gold Ring was inspired. It was a very emotional experience and one I will treasure. GRMMA, beir bua agus beannacht. H
