The Lisdoon Gathering…what a time we had…thanks for the memory Adam…A long set..many songs there that were not performed since….be great to do it again …but time is scarce and the world keeps changing on us….you’re sound as a bell Adam….Thanks for being there
Brilliant concert, great favourites and some fine callouts. Thanks for shout out it really made our trip to Armagh. It was day before by 66th birthday, so now collecting the pension. However your concert took place on the 66th anniversary of Celtic beating Rangers 7 – 1 in the Scottish League cup final in 1957, day before I was born. Barrowlands highly appropriate. Much celebrating in the East End that day.

thanks for making the journey from Stirling…there was a good contingent over frae Scotia….
Hi Christy. Fantastic gig as always last night in Armagh. You were in fine fettle (and the 2 wagons didn’t stand a chance of heckling you with any success!!). Vornie is buzzing still from the wee shout out you gave her! We were up in force from South Derry so were delighted to hear your rendition again of The Boy From Tamlaghtduff. An amazing song & lyrics. See you in Botanic Gardens in June !!

Up from South Derry to Armagh …..were you reading the sat nav upside down Mickey…I’m beginning to develop a masochistic affection for thon pair of harridan hecklers..they kept me on my toes….that one to the right of me…you would’nt like to leave her short in her wages…the other crathur ,to the left of me, seemed very unhappy in herself…in their own way they were part of a great night..I would’nt change them for the world….
thanks for feedback
It couldn’t have gone better Christy thank you. It was the first gig I’ve gone to on my own. My friend had to pull out at the last minute due to family illness. So with tentative steps I joined the queue and had the luck to meet the wonderful McDermott family, from Tyrone, who took me under their Beeswing. Our early bird seats were great a few rows from the front.. Loved the way you seamlessly joined Rosalita and Jack with The Bridge. Poignant songs at the best of times but particularly so, given the gig location for the latter. A bit long winded, sorry, but even getting up at 6.30am to drive home in the lashing rain couldn’t dampen my spirts. Will be dusting down my shooting stick for Botanic Gardens. It was great to meet Hilary. Le grá Mary PS the Orchard choir did you proud.

Armagh gig had some special moments….moments like you referenced, Rosalita into Bridge, totally unplanned and unexpected ….3 simultaneous calls for Tamlaghtduff from different parts of the room, the utter silence,
the powerful singing in the room from the opening ” Chicago” right thru to “The Boys from the County Armagh”
Lovely to read how you discovered that you not alone at the gig….
……and two days later I’m beginning to think that those nuiscance hecklers were all part of a great night…they were like the salt and vinegar on a bag of perfect chips….36 hours on I’m getting kinda glad that they were there…I think
Hi Christy ,
Just browsing through a very good site ,UK and Irish folk music,, a lady there by the name of Jill Loach who ran a folk club in The Giffard Arms in Wolverhampton way back ,,probably 60s makes mention of hosting yourself,, along with many others , such as Luke Kelly , Joe Heaney, Maggie Barry, The Grehan Sisters among many others
Do you have any recollection??
Christy's reply
The Giffard Arms rings a distant bell….it has been circa 55 years since I first wandered thru Wolverhampton…I think I saw Derek Dougan
Ah Jesus, she wouldn’t let me live that one down – my beloved’s name is Emma!
Not any love for the old Third Lanark amongst us. We will, however, be pitching up at a pub in Castlebar to watch the Celtic game on the afternoon of the gig.
God Christy, that was some gig. You were in fine form and the song choices were sublime. It must be hard to perform when there’s a few hallions in the audience but you handled it really well. Thanks so much for your message to Míceál, he genuinely sees you as a friend in the stage and the time you give him is over and beyond. You’re a class act. See you in the Carrickdale!
Dearbhla.
Christy's reply
I could hear his beautiful voice on almost every song….Thanks Míceál, mo cara……..Criostóir
Looking forward to tonight’s gig. Tickets in the bag for Botanic. Think it was ’72 you played at Queen’s Uni which is cheek by jowl so to speak.
Christy's reply
hope all went well for you Mary…I had a great night..enjoyed tha audience thoroughly …(apart from a couple of bleedin wagons who did their best to encroach upon the gig and failed miserably.)…..some great callouts too, Tamlaghduff, Rosalita & jack Cambell, On The Bridge…a briliant audience in a great room in a grand hotel in a beautiful town…just crossing The Liffey now..nearly home..
There are eight of us heading over to Castlebar from Lanarkshire next week to see yourself. We are absolutely buzzing for it.
My myself and the wife booked up and and as the news spread our friends, and your fans joined on the booking.
I suppose, I have yourself to thank for the situation. Myself and the wife met and bonded at house party almost 15 years back. The question of the night was “One singer, one song. What are you singing?” We both replied Nancy Spain.
We went off on separate lives after that conversation and were reunited in mutual company ten years down the line. We turned to talking all things Christy once again.
We married during the pandemic, she walked down the aisle to Bright Blue Rose and we signed the register to The Voyage.
Your set lists are the soundtracks from our childhoods to current house parties. We are both made up at seeing your perform in Mayo.

sound Jono…you’ve chosen a great spot for your gathering…I first played the TF in Castlebar on Christmas Eve 1972 and never had a bad night in it since…thanks for sharing your story in songs….I wont be able to greet you properly as you have not included a very important name….
any word of Third Lanark these days?
Christy,
I will give you 7/2 for Finn’s triple crown.
Joxer didn’t leave his stall today, Jackson Browne’s deluge arrived to let him stay home.

Evening Christy,
Our horse Joxer, named after our Stuttgart hero, runs for the first time tomorrow at Carlisle. He has an official racing name but we know him as Joxer.
I hope he does not stick the head in his jockey, fall out with the trainer over whether Quinn should be given the leg up or fill the horsebox up with duty free, but i will be happy if he is arm in arm with big Jack afterwards.
Talking of which the Joxer version ( first incarnation i presume) is a great tale on the box set….

Currently taking advantage of a free half hour in school to tell you that there’ll be a very excited wee boy (hopefully) in the front row at tomorrow night’s performance. Míceál’s coming back to the scene of the crime!
We have a thing called the Transfer Test in the 6 counties which some children his age take to get into a grammar school. Míceál has his heart set on the Abbey in newry so he’s tortured with tests at the minute (hence the lack of correspondence). This gig has been much anticipated during the slog by him and me both – when your mammy is also your tutor it’s a bad time to be Míceál!
If you could play Johnny Boy it’d mean a lot to us both. Míceál learned it on the guitar and sang it as a surprise for my 40th birthday.
See you tomorrow..counting down the hours!

Hello Christy,
I have that book. The picture on the front is upside down. Love it!
I think I might have a clue to what you feel like after a barrowland gig. Yesterday I ran 3 back to back, in person, full on training courses. I spent the rest of the day sitting and squinting into space while Steve covered me with blankets, lit fires, cooked and fed me. I’m a bit better this morning. I don’t think I’m going to let someone book me like that again.
Strange the poster didn’t mention Elton John. Too early in his career?
It’s my birthday today, I’m 53.

Hello Christy,
Hope everyone here is tucked up safe and warm at home. What’s everyone’s music of choice for days like this? My plans are all in front of the fire, once I’ve braved the rain in Halifax.
Here’s a pic from Leisureland. I guess you won’t have seen this unless you’ve been moonlighting as cleaners…
