Hi Christy, we saw you in Carrickdale Hotel last Saturday night. It was a fantastic evening & thank you for playing Smoke & Strong Whiskey for our son, Rory. He was absolutely thrilled. It was very much appreciated. We all picked up a terrible gastric bug & have been wiped out these last few days but thank goodness we are all on the mend & looking forward to seeing you in Vicker Street tonight. Thank you for the music that we all love so much, best wishes Jude, John & Rory from Australia.
For Moeke:
Dear Moeke, Christy does actually perform on stage alone. But he has a wonderful team of people working with him for every gig, the names which he gave us:
Paddy, Michael, David, Dickon, Jeff, Johnny, Cian, Marius & Con..
The only time he has a bit of peace is when he is on stage haha

Hi Christy
we are back in Belgium after our yearly visit to the Island. We enjoyed your very lively concert in Dundalk as always. We went to the Wiclow area for some days walking. The lady of our B&B told us that we were very close to Two Mile House and Poulaphouca !
Thanks again for keeping up the good work. We still enjoy it tremendously and will keep coming back as long as we can.
warm regards from your grateful Belgian fans.
Christy's reply
Hi Piet….Thank you for being there…the crew very happy to receive your gift from Belgium…..wishing you happy travelling, listening, walking….
Wasn’t there also the short lived Ballymagash Band Christy?
Christy's reply
well remembered Gipp…there were a number of CM bands over the years.. an early one featured Kevin Burke, Jimmy Faulkner (rip) and Declan McNelis (rip)… in 1974 we did an album called “Whatever Tickles Your Fancy”.. we were augmented my Robbie Brennan (rip) and Donal Lunny who also produced…..we recorded a track called “The Humours of Ballymagash” and named ourselves The Ballymagash Céilí Band for that recording only…(I think it may be on the Box Set 1964-2004)…..using that name was a nod to the late Frank Kelly’s wonderful Radio Shows back in the early 70s on Radio Éireann….
Isn’t it a bit lonesome sometimes without your compagnon de route? I imagine it is quiete different
Christy's reply
Everything is different all the time…over 57 years I’ve played solo for 30 years, 27 years with Declan Sinnott, Planxty, Moving Hearts, Companeros, Trad Outfit,2 CM bands and The Early Grave Band…currently working with Paddy, Michael, David, Dickon, Jeff, Johnny, Cian, Marius & Con…Lonesome !!! I cant get a minute of solitude…..
Declan is recording, arranging, gigging and ,always, playing
Hello Christy,
Thank you so much for the first four beautiful lines of a song about Shibden.
Cunnery Woods near Shibden Hall..
an old house a dry stone wall
Caves,Tunnels a Dry Stream
an old path called Serpents Lane
I don’t think I mentioned the dry stone walls. They’re a huge part of the landscape round here. So many different types. You must have remembered…
Shibden has been part of my life forever. I have vivid memories of running towards the lake as a small child and falling straight into it in my excitement. I was fished out by my grandad. That was a short and very cold visit.
Mention of the great Donnacha O’D and “301”, now that’s not today nor yesterday, Donnacha gave quite early prominence to two brothers, Eddie and Finbar Furey, their version of “A Long Way from Clare” was terrific, just the two lads.
Hi Christy Moore!
My husband Todd and I are excited to be able to see you again. (Saw you in Mullingar March 2013). Hoping you will be playing The Voyage. My mother passed in 2004 and her only regret was never setting foot in Ireland. The Voyage was the music our family chose for her memorial since she and my father created their own “crew” (9 kids). Always sweet sorrow when we hear it. Thanks for all your beautiful music. Tina and Todd Scanlan Trapp from the USA. 💕
Jaysus Christy! Yourself and Bourkey have me reminiscing! I remember after the TV show buying the LP when it came out. Some great performances on it, all good, Ralph McTell with two lovely numbers, “Street of London” and “Clare to Here” and Mary Black’s “Anachie Gordon” with Gerry O’Beirne was stunning. I think it was a six week series in the Abbey Tavern? Was one episode filmed in Adare Manor or am I confusing that with something else!
I remember there was always a fella on O’Connell Bridge in the 1st half of the 80’s selling bootlegs. He had a massive flight case type suitcase packed with home recorded cassettes with all Irish Music. (Never seemed to get hassle from gardai or anyone) I always had a look but never bought anything as I was happier paying a few bob extra and getting the original recording. Still the same to this day, can’t bear streaming services, will always go out of my way to buy a hard copy of LP or CD, Still can’t be beaten! However I did make an exception once! Bought the Planxty Live Olympia bootleg off him!
Re; the other 2 albums that were released without permission, input or return would it be cheeky to ask what they were? If I were to have a punt, was it the 2 albums released in ’84 by Polydor? “Planxty Aris”, and the solo one “Nice and Easy”?
Christy's reply
I’d forgotten those 2..that makes 5…
Arís,
Planxty Collection,
Nice ‘n Easy,
CM &Friends,
CM Collection 81-91
prob others too but life is too short to worry about them
the last one was bitter/sweet
bitter that I was dropped by one label but sweet that I was signed by another (Columbia) and had my most successful album by far..I’m still tickled by that
PS
That series was filmed in the Abbey Tavern..all six episodes….there was wine involved…. and capers too
There was another series with Donnacha Ó Dúlaing which was filmed in Adare…I sang one song (I think John O’ Dreams )
much of the focus was on a log fire , a huge flower arrangement and a suit of armour in the lobby… the song was incidental to the set..I recall having a row with the head honcho… but I liked Donnacha..used to love his 301 prog daily on the wireless..also his Highways and Byeways….
Christy, is it true you don’t sing anymore with Declan?
Christy's reply
Declan and I played our last gig the night before covid shutdown… after 20 years together I decided I wanted to play solo again ….. we travelled a long road together…. and who knows… maybe we’ll hook up again along the way….I loved our time together, playing with Declan was a treat
Gosh Christy, that’s a great set, a few calls here wondering about that local lad Rhine-side…..thanks! Can’t bate the Rhinelander, almost as sharp as the dalin’ men from Crossmaglen…..
What a fantastic thing it is Christy that you get such great pleasure from the gig, then all the listeners singers shouters clappers all get a huge lift, sure there is no better medicine for life’s cares.
Well, I’m off to my iPod to make a playlist of that set, get the T-shirt back on, mug of milk and a cheese sarnie, then close the eyes, listen to the set, and be over there in borderlands heaven….
Keep them comin’!

Hello Christy,
I got the bus to shibden Hall yesterday for a craft fair there. Got off and wandered up to the hall through Cunnery woods. I got chatting to a guy who told me about the folklore of the landscape, caves, tunnels, a dry stream and an old path called serpents lane. Got me wondering if there are any songs about the place. It’s very old, the house was built in 1420. I’m going to do a bit of research and see if anything turns up.
I was a the craft fair to see a local potter called John Hudson. He makes earthenware pots from local clay. Many old looking pots in historical dramas on TV have been made by him. So we had a chat while he and his wife struggled with the card reader, and I got stocked up with treasure.
Tried to buy a coffee from the catering van but they’d run out of water. Three women were singing Fairytale of Newyork. Joined in for a bit.
I’ll stop rambling now. Hope everyone here is having a good weekend.

Dear Christy,
I was hammering the box set today and reckon that the song that best sums up the current unrest is IN ZURICH.
Grand protest song, son Charlie marching for a ceasefire today, like he and i did 2 weeks ago….what the children learn at school is all that glitters must be gold, those that don’t accept this rule find themselves out in the cold.
Enjoy the up coming vicar.
Great to hear that Pat will become a bootlegger.

Hello Christy,
Went to see the pipes maker David Lim yesterday in Manchester. There was a problem with the bass drone. Lots of pulling and pushing bits of ebony and brass, some of it happened in the cellar. That bass drone is a thing of beauty. It’s an instrument all in itself. It’s behaving itself now. We also got to see how the regulators are coming on. They look a bit like four very small banisters at the moment. Ebony, the core is in place. The bass regulator is made out of two bannisters. It’s like magic watching the guy turn bits of wood and metal into a masterpiece.
