Christy morra,
I have friends who are being troubled by Scallcrows.
Not a song that is easily a ‘favourite’, as it spits out the message, but a very important song nonetheless.
Here we are Sunday morning so….
Sunday morning I can hear the sound
It’s the Scallcrows flocking around
Seeking prey that must be found
To satisfy the hunger
The 4711ers are having a ball on Vicar Street, delighted with that news.
Rory
Christy's reply
I think back to those who’s ill treatment inspired my scallcrow scribbles..one recently departed and sadly missed , the other has turned into a fascist twat..
a grand Winter’s day here in the Black Lagoon…looking forward to welcoming Finn Russell to Lansdowne Rd in two months time
Hello Christy,
What a fab set list. Lots of new ones, we may hear the whole new album before it’s out? These days I’m thinking it must be like choosing which chocolates to buy…
Is lemon sevens still bumbling along? I was doodling on the harp and found some chords, if they’re of any interest? Hoping I wrote them down.
Rebecca
Christy's reply
sure is..this version will remain chordless….a few scattered beats perhaps
Hey Christy,
Another super gig last Thursday night – thank you! – great crowd, felt like you were in the front room doing a family gig, such is the intimacy of the place.
Friend of mine summed it up, “going to see Christy is like a pilgrimage!” – hard to argue with that one!
Fine wine Christy – better with age!
Ever consider “Irish Ways and Irish Laws” in the song list ? With all the madness going on in the world right now, it’s up there with Viva La Quinta and Hold Long! Great lyrics and haunting melody!
Next gig I’ll give it a shout out, like Lawless, you’ll have no problems recalling it!! 🙂
“Ride on Christy”!
Stay well!
John
Christy's reply
Vicar St has become a place of pilgrimage for myself and the crew
“Quinte” is constant..”How Long” is semi regular..”Irish Ways” had 3 outings in ’23
I surprised myself by singing “Lawless’ the other night..twas the plaintive call that set it off…
These current gigs are tearing along….I feel like I’ve been preparing since 1966 ….( thats the year I left the job)… and now its falling into place….the wind is behind me, the listeners are with me, the crew are 100% on-the-ball and I’m having the time of my life…all I gotta do is stay alive, turn up and sing
Dear Christy thank you for an exceptional evening at Vicar Street. I was very pleased to hear Black and Amber particularly. And of course Lawless.
I am greatly heartened that the music continues to nourish and sustain so many of us. It was fab to see 4711er stalwarts.
I look forward with great excitement to Belfast. Nothing is promised and nothing is guaranteed and I take nothing for granted. But I will wager we’ll all be there and it’ll be a blinder and I will go home feeling just the best in this journey of songs.
Keep well keep warm and my very best to you and the lads. I am very grateful. X
Christy's reply
’twas mighty to see you there boppin away in the front row and Angela there beside you….
Hi Christy, I was telling you about “Feathers for Rosa”our Rosa Luxemburg Tribute comming to the New Theatre. I Just wanted to say that it’s been rescheduled due to unforeseen maintenance work there. The new date for the performance/exhibition is March 5th ( Rosa’s birthday) and also on the 6th and 7th. I hope to also get to see you play at Vicar Street during my stay in Dublin then. Very best wishes, Nollaig
🎶🎶🎼🎼🎼”Why don’t you behave like the other girls do?? Why must my poor heart keep following you?? Stay home and love me, my Liverpool Lou”🎼🎼🎶🎶🎶 it’s in my head now, Christy! It’s a song that I associate with my youth, not unlike many of your own!!
It sounds like you’re having some great gigs in Vicar St! I’m so looking forward to the one in University Concert Hall in UL in April! You’re a mighty man to keep gigging!! Not unlike the Bould Brucie, in fairness 😂😂😂
Tina…Mount Scott
Many thanks for the set list …what a fab range of songs. Fair play to you…
Saddened by the news of Annie Nightingale’s passing,I found some mellow music tonight…Sinead O’Connor’s superb ‘Sean- Nos Nua’…The Parting Glass is liltingly poignant, Lord Baker – the duet with you, magnificent…hence, several plays…
Just arrived home and and just wanted to thank you for another incredible Vicar Street show! My mum nearly fell off her seat when you mentioned her name before you played McIlhatton. You really made her night!
Lawless was flawless and fantastic (despite your initial trepidation) Like a fine wine, you get better with age! Great to see you in such fine form!
We listened to your Magic Nights on the Road double album all the way up the road.
Cheers rebecca not the song but it was , i think, a snip from that bbc alba programme i tried to share from the iplayer which is 100 mins about the barras .
I think the first act i saw in the barras might have been stiff little fingers, or was it gary clarke ( of ‘danny wilson’ fame) but maybe it was declan mcmanus….who knows.
Great venue, fond memories ( still ongoing visiting there ) .
We have Celtic Connections starting soon in Glasgow, going to see Junior Brother from Kerry and also Joshua Burnside from Belfast. Joshua is special.

Hello Christy,
I think the song that has found a home in Rory’s heart might have played a starring role in the documentary called Life on the Road? Some wonderful songs on that, including 40 seconds of Rocky Road to Dublin. A unique take on it. https://youtu.be/bDloDFvJJhI?si=nq8X3FAO-D4gHqXm

Somalia, East end Glasgow, Gaza, North Dublin, Congo, Ecuador, kyiv
A song sadly still for our times, lovely song whether in slum, war, uprising, addiction….
I imagine it touches your soul every time you sing it Christy?
When you look in to a child’s face
You are seeing all the human race
And the endless possibilities there
Where so much can come true
And you think of the beautiful things
A child can do
How long can a child survive
How long if it was up to you
When you think of all the money spent
On defence by the government
And the weapons of destruction we build
We’re so sure that we need
And you think of the millions and millions
That money could feed
How long can you hear someone crying
How long can you hear someone dying
Before you ask yourself why
How long will we hear people speaking
About missiles for peace and just let it go by
How long will they tell us these weapons are keeping us free
It’s a lie
Howya Christy,
Lovely memories of Shane.
Seen him in concert with The Pogues and without them.
Good times. Happy memories.
Seen him once in a pub
Stranger asked him what he was drinking
A pint of mind your own fucking business
Lad beside him asked him for a pint of the same.
Drink deep and be silent was the order of the day.
Them wasn’t the days that weren’t.

“the good auld days were the days when we did’nt talk about the good auld days”
What a night, Christy.
The drama!
Míceál was stopped at the door, but thankfully they were as accommodating as last time and let him in. We promised we wouldn’t buy him any drink 😉
Thanks for Johnny Boy. Míceál sang it at a charity gig before Christmas and mashed it with Nancy Spain. It has a special place for us.
It was a buzzing night. Each song was as good as the last and it was particularly good to hear Lawless and No Time for Love.
Míceál has a question though – what was the song you were going to sing, but decided against? You wrote it yourself, Míceál is burning to know!
Christy's reply
from the last album////Zoz & Zimmerman
I’ve written some new verses and renamed it “The Night we went to hear Bob Dylan “
See you tonight, Christy!
Míceál got the tickets from Santa and it’s all that’s getting us through January!
If you could play Johnny Boy, we’d be so grateful.
Ádh mór!
