My apologies – it was about Rachel Corrie the American activist who was killed in Palestine. You sang a song for her in Belfast at the Waterfront circa 5 years ago? Was unbelievable! I think you dedicated an album to her at some stage also??

Just like to leave this comment as I was extremely frustrated at the gig I went to in the waterfront on 20/3/13….My friends and I felt so uncomfortable as we were not allowed to sing along or cheer at your most popular songs which we dearly love,we have all followed you around and paid good money to see you,we’ve followed you all around Ireland and Scotland…if I may make a suggestion it would be to let your faithful fan have a sing a long without doormen breathing down your neck and repeatedly telling us to be quiet,as a result of this myself and my friends did not enjoy a night that we were looking forward to for months…Please take this on board as I think your deserve a good night when they pay you good money..I would definitely be thinking twice about attending another concert….a reply would be appreciated…all the best
Christy's reply
Dear Scallio 12,( I do respect your anonymity tho it probably removes any obligation I might have to reply to you) I regret that you had such a bad experience last night. However I cannot accept that “you were not allowed to sing or cheer”….last nights audience sang and cheered from the very first song to the last, did you not hear them singing on Nancy Spain , Missing You, Back Home in Derry, Sonny’s Dream, Quinte Brigada, Ride On, Voyage,McIlhatton, Ord Man, ( were you there at all I wonder !)…Declan and I were uplifted by the quality and sound of last nights audience participation…there was a problem early on with 3 very drunk men who were disturbing everyone… thankfully the staff managed to put an end to it and the remainder of the concert was, for me and many others, a very good night. For as long as I am able to do this work I will strive to do it exactly as we did it last night .Dont think twice Scallio12…dont think twice and you’ll be alright….I wish you the best too…happy singing and cheering
I am coming to the gig tonight and thought I would drop ya a wee line! I have checked through my previous ticket stubs (I am weird like that I keep them all) and I have seen you on 24 previous occasions -Spirit Store, Vicar Street, Slieve Donard, London, Holland, etc, etc but there is something special about the Belfast atmosphere! Could you sing the song about Rachel Curry that you sang years ago – I have looked for it everywhere and cannot get it!

not sure which song you mean but I’ll check it out
Hi All…. Re : Glaoch …. its a shame not to have the full version available, lets email them and ask info@rte.ie like Maryline said it worked before,,, its only fair to those who performed and to the concept itself… Beir bua. H
I have just seen the “gig at the Aras” lovely idea and performance by all. I will travel again from the US for a gig, I have tickets for The Glen Eagle in Killarney on March 29th. In the last twenty years it’s been somewhat harder to catch a concert but appreciate each time I can. I dusted off and re-read One Voice recently and was wondering if you could possibly sign my copy ?
My favorite song I think is the Two Conneeleys although that varies from time to time,
Best ragards. Brian.
Christy's reply
Thank you for your feedback..the Glaoch was a great achievement by all those who rallied to The Presidents call…he welcomed us all to Aras an Uachtaráin and then sent our words and music out around the world for anyone to hear…..re signing the book, no problem….mind you it occurred to me that its a long way to haul that book , particularily if its the hard back version…by all means bring it but I could just as easliy sign a card that you could then insert…but you call….if you present it to one of my stage crew ,I’ll do the necessary and get it back to you..hope you have a good trip, we are playing in Belfast at the moment and the songs are flying…greetings to all songbirds across the pond..in particular those with “their heads down behind the Brooklyn Wall”
Thanks for yet another great gig Christy. Always something different each night. Loved that wee guy in the front row – he loved his gig. Couldn’t help thinking during the Contender of the sad tale of Alexandra O’Brien who died in the Foyle last week. Came from John Of Gods in Dublin with another lad who is still missing. We never appreciate the blessings we have enough. Reminded me of the night you sang Quiet Desparation for Eamon Andersonn

Good to hear from you as always…..that “wee man” in the front row was an inspiration last night…cant have been more then 7 or 8 and I could hear him sing the songs..better then any platinum disc on a sad wall….that was a terrible story came from Derry last week..there, but for the grace, could be any one of us…what a great turn out last night…when the lights went up at the end it was just wonderful to see all those faces…so may young ones too, coming to hear the songs live for the first time….I could not see past the front row during the gig but all through I have a connection, a sense of crowd, with all of you out there in the dark..then when the lights come up, that connection becomes visual…last night it was a lovely thing….I feel a great sense of awe and privilege when so many come to hear Declan and I play these songs old and new
Hey Christy .
Declan played Aberdeen last week . It wasn’t the best of venue’s and I doubt Declan will remember it as being a great night due to the group of talkers who failed to notice the singer (so they had to converse by shouting) .. but those of us who were listening were absolutely captivated . I did shake Declan’s hand and thank him for a great show and for coming to Aberdeen but can you please pass on my thanks to him again . He was appreciated …very much so .
Cheers,
Dave

I’ll pass that on Dave…..he has his own website too and is frequently on facecloth
Mike’s show is always a delight..he turns up some rare gems and is a bit of a diamond himself…he gave me my first Folk Club gig 1966..twas a Sunday night in Blakeley nr Manchester…paid me £3 and pound and gave me floor space for the night…but had himself and Patricia known that I’d sleep there for the next 3 months they might have had 2nd thoughts…Mike was shafted by the BBC last year but soon picked himself up,dusted himself down, and started his own show on-line ….. Mike is a good ‘un…”Ey Up Our Kid”
Noticing lots of young new listeners around lately. Just wish to point out some resources on this site that are not often mentioned : the “library” up there right corner offers some hidden treasures, like https://christymoore.com/library/moores-melodies/ for example, a radio History class through CM songs that should be of young and notsoyoung interest. Its a great site indeed, kudos to the staff.
Christy's reply
tell you truth Maryline I’d half forgotten about it myself !…I think perhaps we might need a Librarian…hoping to get the full version of Glaoch up here (seing as our National Broadcaster has been unable to make it available)…Belfast being very hospitable as always…no talking to ye there now that ye have South American Frankie on the crozier…will he weigh in, or will he take the soup, or did he take it years ago as some suggest ….a new regime they say, time alone will tell..greetings to all you Chilean songsters…hope your books are flying out the door
Forgot to say I met you many years ago in the Friarsland fitness centre in the Pool with all the foam ( can’t spell it ) . Every time I hear Alice Glenn’s name in your song I recall the moment!!
Best regards

Hi Christy,
Enjoyed your gig with the President in the Park.
The setting the spoken words the song the lyrics were terrific. I loved the sound from your Taylor guitar. I play myself and would love to know the Taylor model and series.
I recently got Taylor GS mini 3/4 size travel guitar and love it.
Many thanks

my Taylor is Model 714…I got it second hand about 10 years ago….both Declan and I have been playing Matons lately…lovely guitars and very good value..they are made in Australia but have an outlet in Dublin’s Guitar Shop..very helpful in there too if you fancied trying one …..the Taylor I have is still my favourite guitar but I dont gig with it as the 30 year old Taks do that particular job for me….(I would not consider any Taks younger then 20 years old…they changed direction back then and I dont like what followed…) The Glaoch was 90 in The Phoenix Park
(… not to mention the wardrobe to go with the work…)
Seriously, good idea to ask RTE for the Full Monty, they have obliged before, if we ask nicely they might again. I will now. x
Yes best of luck for Belfast gigs,,,, plenty requests for sure,, @ John,, a blue line for the reviews ? Q. When exactly would you like to CM retire from gigging ? ??? A. Never. Safe travelling in the VW,,, H
Great reviews from your gig with the President – would you ever fancy being in the Aras for a few years? Bet you’d do a fair job of it. Getting gathered to trek through the snow on Glenshane to the Waterfront. Looking forward to a couple of good nights away from the work to that place that only music can take us. Best wishes to you and Dec for the gigs. Keep well.

I would be totally out of my depth John….I love this work that I have been doing since 1966, I have made a lifes study of songs, singing, accompanient, live performance and recording but these studies qualify me for one job only, that of a Folk Singer…to undertake Presidential duties requires skills and knowledge way outside my ken….knowledge of International Law, of protocol, National and International Politics, the workings and mindset of bureaucracies and civil servants…that President O’Higgins has all these skills along with a deep knowledge and love of the Arts is a blessing to us all…( I shudder to think what might have been) …..I feel very honoured to have been part of Glaoch…I loved every bit of the making of it and equally loved watching it…a shame that so many people around the world dont seem to be able to access the longer version..however, in this case, the glass is much more then half full…looking forward to tonight in The Waterfront, always a great pleasure to chant beneath The Black Mountain
Thank you for answering “Glaoch – The President’s Call”. It was wonderful to see, hear you play and talk. Everything crossed I may see the full version in the future. : D XOX p.s You were looking well in your suit.
