Hello Christy,
Rory posted yesterday asking me what I think about Soldier F. I’m going to try and answer his question. I hope that is ok.
I was 18 months old when Bloody Sunday happened. So I don’t remember it. I’ve been reading about it and lots of other events in the six years since I joined this site.
I’m finding it very difficult to imagine what living through those times was like. The horror of it, the indiscriminate murder of unarmed civilians. Its not something I find easy to face or understand. It’s made worse by similar things happening right now in Palestine. Both my parents died recently, so I have an understanding of that. But they both died peacefully, in the care of their families and compassionate people, doctors, nurses, priests, carers and friends. This thing that Rory has asked me about is completely horrifying to me. It is not like the deaths I have faced.
So, what of Soldier F.
I’m horror struck by the whole thing and everything about it. Everything about it is wrong. There is no way that I can reconcile it to any kind of behaviour that I think of as human.
I’m sorry, I don’t think I can say any more. My thoughts about Soldier F are that everything about him is wrong, even what we are forced to call him.
Happy Birthday Git, I hope you have a lovely day surrounded by family, friends, and a good Indian curry washed down with a cuppa tea and apple tart. Love Fin
Happy birthday Christy. From At the Wellhead 1996 by Heaney.

Dear Christy
You were only 45 years old the first time I saw you in Dranouter and still alive and kicking!
A very happy birthday and looking forward to see you again next week in Dublin!
Greetings Chris
Hi Christy, Happy Birthday from Harry. I hope you are having a great day.
1945 was a great year, you were born and so was my Grandad, plus World War 2 ended. Im still in shock after your gig in the UL Concert Hall. Whoever said never meet your heroes never met Christy Moore. Enjoy your birthday and Ride On Christy. From Harry.
Christy, a very happy birthday on behalf of myself and my family.
I wish you the best of luck in another year of your life, a true inspiration to myself and many others.
Happy Birthday Christy, thinking of you today and wishing you continued good health to amuse, amaze and influence all who kneel at the CM shrine !!!
I’ll be a proud long-hauler/4711’er when myself and Tina finally get to take 4 of our kids to see you in the Botanic Gardens, Belfast, on 2nd June. (The eldest will be back in Australia, 27 years since you patted Tina’s bump and I sang a couple of songs for you backstage in the now defunct Newry Sports Centre !)
You have affected so many people’s lives with your songs and humour and we’re all so lucky to still have you so close.
Stay well Christy and we’ll see you soon…..in June………under the Belfast moon !
Happy birthday Christy. Hope you have a good one and grateful thanks for all of the joy you bring. Would have been my granny’s 128th birthday today- frightening number lol. Stay well and stay safe.
Many Happy Returns Christy.
Myself and the family are coming over from Hebburn to see you on the 18th of May.
As you may remember my dad Kevin bell passed away, however my mam Margaret Bell will be attending with us. It’s a present for her 70th birthday. A little mention for her would make her day. All the best christy 🇮🇪
Good call Dave! Four years! Wow!
