Hi Christy
Linked to Moeke’s point…the last chanson I heard on the radio was the excellent Cerys Matthews show on BBC radio Six one Sunday…
I have an often played Jacques Brel CD,but,as so often YouTube comes to the rescue! Not only for that golden French era,but into the 60’s….Somewhere,a genius preserved and YouTube posted numerous shows, originally shown live on French TV….pure gold is Fairport Convention, with the pre Sandy Denny lineup…Richard Thompson nails some solos, being c 18!
Happy hunting all and good luck finalising the Cork setlist,Christy

Christy here we go
Dazzler goes to Frankfurt.
In the footsteps of Joxer my son in law heads off early tomorrow in his tartan troos to follow the mighty Scotland.
Taking in Frankfurt Bonn and Cologne.
My daughter Eilidh and grandson Connall will be cheering him on from Southside Glesga aka Ballymun.
I told him to lookout for Joxer’s son (and perhaps) grandson who will no doubt be opening their German Irish pub early to admit the tartan army on the banks of the river Rhine.

We’ll miss her, francoise hardy. I am thinking, where is the time we still listened to French singers as Jacques Brel, michel sardou,,Jean ferrat, Georges moustaki, Jacques Dutronc and francoise hardy…..I do miss that. It’s rare we hear one of them here on the radio . Luckily there are records

Hi Christy,
Got a loan of a book called Plentiful Country.
It’s the story of The Great Potato Famine and the making
Of Irish New York. I learnt more in the opening chapters
than I ever did in school. But then we weren’t thought much
about An Gorta Mór or the civil war for that matter.
There was more fun to be had trying to fill our heads with
algebra and grammar. Although in multiplication it’s true
I was bright. Agus fágaimid siúd mar atá sé.
Enjoy the gig in The Big Marque this weekend.

Hi Christy,
still floating, amazed, elated, thankfull and humbled to have witnessed your gig in The Botanic Gardens, Belfast. As a long hauler, I have no problem saying it was the very finest of evenings I have ever spent kneeling at the Christy shrine. Everything about the gig was perfection, the location, the setting, the sound, (apart from the odd string buzz, soon sorted), the vibe from the crowd, the weather, having Tina and three of our kids with us, who are all still talking about it, but most of all Christy, your enthusiasm, passion, and talent really shone through on the night. Your ability to control and entertain such a vast crowd with one guitar and a microphone is simply breath-taking. The choice of songs brought tears of joy and sorrow, one after another, but at 79 years of age, I could have closed my eyes at any minute and would have been listening to the exact same passion I heard 40, 30 and 20 years ago ! Great also to meet up again with young Hilary, no need to search for her, just head front and center! Also great catching up with “The London Looper” herself, Anuk, and her daughter and son-in-law. An extremely brilliant memorable gig Christy, and one that will be talked about for years to come. Then to top it all, your reply to Anuk made me so proud when you said I settled you into the gig when you saw me, thanks for these kind words Christy, and you’re right, I was just taking it all in and soaking it all up. The crowd were all shouting out what song they thought you were going to sing first and I simply said, City of Chicago, and lo and behold…..
Continued health and thanks to yourself and the team Christy, another notch on the fretboard, and maybe, apart from the Lisdoon Gaggle, the best gig ever, for this loyal follower !!!
Good man, Decky.
Christy's reply
Decky, that evening in the Botanic still fresh in my mind….standing side stage before the kick off I marvelled at where we were, at how many listeners hsad gathered to hear the songs…52 years since I first sang beneath The Black Mountain …that was with Liam, Andy and Donal when Planxty played in McMordie Hall…I wondered was there anyone else in Botanic who was at that Planxty gig ….
Thanks for being there, you and your family ….
Long time no see Christy! Thoroughly enjoyed every moment in Kilkenny last night, lovely gig from start to finish. First time with my daughter Tara since we brought her to the Lyrath next door 17 years ago, when she was 4. She was buzzing after last night again. Great to meet Hilary again also. We won’t leave it as long until the next one!

Advertised as Music meets History…spot on. I miss soundchecks as much as playing gigs. From my seat in the marquee, hearing levels tweaked,I knew this would be great…
Michael Wood, narration… Steve Knightley (Show of Hands) vocals and stringed instruments,Glen Latouche (Edward 11) vocals,Howard Brown (Track Dogs)trumpet…
Focusing on Broadsides,it was an absorbing session….put in context as story telling, the subtle arrangements complimented the stories. Always fascinating how tunes are borrowed and adapted.,..John Stafford ‘s tale of Peterloo slaughter, set to the tune of ‘The wearing of the green’,Ireland,1798….As industrialisation dominated the city,’Four Loom Weaver’ is a powerful tale…much loved by Ewan Mac mColl, his recording featured on an LP.Played by Martin Carthy to Bob Dylan…later ,the tune used for ‘I am a lonesome hobo…
Very special to be in a small, attentive audience as the gig progressed. Reggae rhythms worked perfectly for Glen Latouche’s take on ‘Victoria Bridge…’Guest harmonies by an excellent trio of women singers for ‘Nana was a suffragette’,which went down a storm!
Clever touches towards the end, inviting audience audience participation,no persuasion needed! A modern ballad,Elbow’s ‘ One Day like this’,then the big finish….reggae beat, harmonies galore for ‘Dirty old Town’…classic.A quick thanks and chat with a very happy Wood and Knightley…after a fab session, the rain wasn’t as intrusive on my walk back to town…music keeping spirits high …
